Lyngby Vikings unveil trace as head coach

The standout CS 1.6 pro was confirmed as Lyngby Vikings' coach after reaching the top 30 of the world ranking.

Lyngby Vikings revealed that Martin "⁠trace⁠" Heldt was signed as their new head coach on Wednesday, following a month-long period of cooperation between the tactician and the squad.

This marks trace's returns to coaching after his short stint with Singularity was brought to an end in July. The 31-year-old's track record with Lyngby Vikings looks good so far, as the team boasts a 30W - 15L map record, has won Pelaajatcom Series Fall Finals and Funspark ULTI 2021 Europe Regional Series 3, and rose to a new peak — the 28th spot in the world ranking.

Over the same period, Lyngby Vikings managed wins over teams such as Entropiq, Endpoint, Copenhagen Flames, and AGO. Their uptick in form also coencides with the addition of Swedish-American AWPer Adam "⁠WolfY⁠" Andersson, who averages a 1.11 rating over 67 maps played.

With Lyngby Vikings, trace returns to the limelight for the first time since parting ways with fnatic in 2013, as his attempted returns to activity in 2015 and 2017 didn't pan out.

The Dane gained notoriety in the previous version of the game, however, as a part of an mTw lineup that also featured current Astralis coach Danny "⁠zonic⁠" Sørensen and former North coach Alexander "⁠ave⁠" Holdt. trace was the team's standout player in 2010-2011, finishing third and fourth on the best players of the year ranking.

"I'm thrilled to be given this opportunity," trace said in a statement to HLTV.org. "I feel very comfortable in the coaching role, and it is something I want to do in many years to come. Our goal as a team is first of all to be a consistent top 30 team, and after that slowly climb the rankings. Competition is tough and we will continue to work our asses off."

trace was fucking sick, for sure he could be playing by nowadays if he wanted... he was pretty much a 1.6 device, he played with all weapons, very consistent, but always on the shadows of neo and f0rest (just like device ia on the shadows of ZywOo and s1mple)

The issue with his legacy was the fact that mTw literally never beat Navi. It's the same issue for minet, though Trace was the better player. It was sort of like Astralis vs Liquid, except Liquid have won a handful of times. Trace was great though. He wasn't amazing in CSGO, but his in-game intelligence was always really high, so I think he could be a good coach.
