PGL Major Stockholm team list finalized as Copenhagen Flames claim last spot

All 24 teams who will travel to Sweden for the first Major tournament in over two years are locked in.

Copenhagen Flames have secured the final spot at PGL Major Stockholm after clinching seventh place at IEM Fall Europe over Fiend and denying the Bulgarians a place in the $2 million event.

After a grueling qualification process which ran across six regions and essentially began over a year and a half ago with the first set of Regional Major Ranking tournaments, the stage is set for the return of CS:GO to the biggest and most prestigious competition there is.

A sight that is only a few weeks away now

The Danes rounded out a list of 24 teams who will make the trip at the end of October for the first Major event to take place since the StarLadder Major over two years ago and the first tournament to feature a large live audience following the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With only a few big names missing, the most notable teams who missed out on the coveted spot at the Major being OG, Complexity, and fnatic, PGL Major Stockholm looks set to bring a stacked competition to the screens kicking off on October 26.

That is when the Challengers stage kicks off, which will see the teams who claimed a Contender or Challenger status in the RMR standings compete in a Swiss stage over four days for eight spots in the Legends stage. There, the Legend status names will join the competition for another Swiss stage producing the final eight who will make it to the playoffs taking place inside the Avicii Arena in front of over 10,000 fans.

Here is the list of the 24 teams who will be in action in Stockholm for the PGL Major, taking place from October 26-November 7:

No, the old system was way to rigid, was way to hard to get knocked out of the major, and way to hard to qualify from the good regions. We had shit like flipsid3 who didn’t do anything all year but then played just good enough to hold on to a major slot for several majors in a row. We want the best teams, not relics.

It always some team having a fluke, in the Swiss system it’s rather common, and I don’t think that fluke team should have a free slot next major if they can’t maintain the high level in between.

What if a team plays so good the entire time only to burn out, and crash out of the major 0-3, then what you'll cry cause it's unfair yet again, it doesn't matter if they only ever fluke majors, so teams perform better in those situations better than others. Old system was the better way, this way is so flawed with how points are given out in different regions.

That example shows exactly why the RMR system is better. If a good team crashes out, they still have a good shot to make it next time, sure with a slight (deserved) disadvantage in starting RMR points. Why would points in different regions matter at all, you only compete within your region anyway. Let’s just hope NA doesn’t overperform so some of their slots can go to the actually good regions in EU and CIS.

The spots in RMR is solely based on the placings from that region at the last major. So that wouldn’t be any different on the old system. The old system was just too rigid. A legend team could never get knocked from the next major even if they failed to retain legend status. They would just drop down a step and still be above the minor. This makes that if a shit team has a lucky Swiss round and gets an “undeserved” legend spot. They will hold a slot in the major for the next two instances before they can be rightfully kicked out.

If normal sports don’t use that for championships, why should csgo with such rapid changes secure so many teams? I can buy giving the winner a free slot. More than that I don’t see the gain. It’s not like you have just one RMR event, and the legend teams get a head start. We want the best teams, not relics of a fluke team , or even worse 3/5 of the relic fluke team that just threw something together to retain the slot.

And idk about the normal sport argument most sports I have ever followed have literally all the same teams year after year with 0 change what so ever so in this sense CS:GO is much better because teams can relegate out of the competition. I meant if a fluke team get legend and as is the nature of fluke teams, can’t even stick together between majors. You have had cases of 3/5 players from that fluke team just getting a new “team” before the major so they can get in on the juicy sticker money. They obviously get destroyed, but they took up a pointless spot in that major which could have been given to a proper team. You need to stop comparing with leagues in other sports, we have leagues in csgo as well. I Such as ESL PL, there team retain unless they place in the bottom. This is to be viewed as a championship. And if you take football for example. Every country has to qualify again each time.
