Five teams to compete on legacy maps in Battle of Betway

Three European and two South American squads will face off in an exhibition tournament six days before the Major starts.

Five organizations sponsored by betting company Betway will participate in "Battle of Betway" on October 20. Ninjas in Pyjamas, G2, and BIG will represent Europe while FURIA and MIBR try to defend the Brazilian pride in an exhibition tournament played on legacy maps.

The action will take place on Tuscan, Cobblestone, the updated version of Cache, as well as old versions of Inferno and Train. The one-day event will feature a round-robin group stage followed by a playoff bracket.

Group stage games will be played two at a time, with broadcasts on Betway and Betway Esports Twitch channels, and the likes of Anders "⁠Anders⁠" Blume, Auguste "⁠Semmler⁠" Massonnat, and Alexandre "⁠gAuLeS⁠" Chiqueta hosting the tournament.

After the round-robin portion is finished and each team has played four BO1 matches, the highest-ranked team will advance to the grand final, with the second and third-placed team set to fight for a grand final spot in the semis. Just like the group stage, the playoffs will be played using a BO1 format.

If I was playing on one of these teams and I was also going to the Major I would be dead against doing this. Even if they are contractually obligated to do this due to sponsorship, why on earth they are doing it a week before the major is beyond me.
