PGL Major Stockholm viewer's guide

Find out the schedule and format of the 2021 CS:GO Major and see which teams will be competing for the $2,000,000 prize with our viewer guide.

The first Counter-Strike Major in over two years, PGL Major Stockholm, will take place in Sweden's capital on October 26 - November 7 with a total of 24 teams competing for one of the largest prize pools in the game's history.

The event will feature 18 of the 20 highest-ranked teams in the world — including Natus Vincere, G2, and Astralis —, and the playoffs will be played in the Avicii Arena in front of a live audience.

The Champions stage will be played in from of a crowd in Stockholm

PGL Major Stockholm is split into three parts: the Challengers, Legends, and Champions stages. In the first one (October 26 - 29), previously known as the Main Qualifier, 16 teams will compete in a Swiss system format where the eight best teams will advance to the second stage. Underdogs such as TYLOO, Renegades, and Sharks will be playing in the Challengers stage, but so will some big names such as Astralis, Virtus.pro, and FaZe that didn't live up to their status in the Major-qualifying cycle.

Challengers stage teams

The Legends stage follows (October 30 - November 2), where eight teams that accumulated the most points qualifying for the Major will join the eight ones advancing from the Challengers stage, setting up another 16-team Swiss group. Natus Vincere, G2, and Liquid will start their tournaments at this point, and again, the eight best teams will advance further.

Biggest takeaways from lineups submitted for PGL Major

In the Swiss system, each team has to win three games to advance or lose three games to be eliminated. Matchups for each round are drawn shortly after the previous one is concluded, and teams with the same win-loss record are paired in every round. At the PGL Major, BO1 matches will be used for the initial games, until elimination or promotion games are reached — those will be BO3.

Finally, the playoffs will take place in the Avicii Arena on November 4-7, following a one-day tournament break. Eight teams will fight their way to the Major title through a single-elimination bracket, concluding with a BO3 grand final on Sunday, November 7 at 20:00 . All playoff matches will be played in front of a crowd, while the Challengers and Legends stages will take place in a studio environment.

interesting, for your pickems u gotta predict the swiss stage matchups I guess, even the top teams will face each other as 'teams with the same win-loss record are paired in every round', so the 2-0 teams will be interesting.

Generously distributed quotas for NA \ SA. For many, it will be great luck to play with Furia and EG. The moment when the Legends stage is not much more difficult than the Challengers stage :)

BO5s are way too long, the level of CS drops around the 4th map usually because the players get tired and lose focus.

Nobody is gonna perform better when they're tired lol, the level of skill falls of a cliff in the 5th map of any BO5. Idk why people wanna see tier 4 CS out of tier 1 players at a Major final.

yeah, raw skill. Not tactics or strategy just raw skill is the key to winning. And some players are better when they don't rely so much on strategies others do not. So a good aimer like Electronic has a higher chance to win than for example a Tizian.

SPUNJ is co-casting alongside Machine; though to be fair, even casting his role is more colour-commentator/analyst anyway, along the same lines as Launders.

Talent-wise this might be the most stacked major ever. The level of teams right now is a little middling, but even if teams don't perform too impressively, that talent will just carry the show. I'd watch even a Tyloo vs Sharks match just for the casting and analysis. Though it's too bad that some teams with potential, like OG, Fiend, Fnatic, Sinners, Endpoint, HAVU, ... are missing out while the Americas, Asia, and Oceania get some free slots that they don't deserve.

That's fair enough. ^^ With me, I almost feel compelled to because it's the first Major since two years. xD I definitely won't be able to catch all of them live, it'll involve a lot of catch-up with VOD's.

she got some reward for casting/analyst and her speech was all about how she hopes she gets to have thorin fired/removed from the scene. You can like or dislike thorin, but using reward acceptance speech, THE your time to shine to say that someone should lose their job is just a sign of a miserable being to say the least. To use your time to shine to bring such negativity made me lose all respect for her, tbh I did like that she improved in the analyst desk and she makes things less centered around her self which is nice, but this is just ewwwww.

+1 should be bo5. Why are other semi-big tornies bo5 then? I can't follow through with the logic. This is supposed to be the biggest fking event in a long time and a bo3 feels fking underwhelming. Being tried forces genuine mental commitment and hence is a showcase of ones intrinsic skill -warmup -feelontheday. The first few maps are essentially a good warmup for both teams as well as a testing of waters. This is the ultimate showdown, a marathon, a vitcory in which the most determined shall take. A grand final should be a microcosm of the hard-fought journeys of both teams leading up/qualifying for the major as it should be a journey in itself.

How many matches, BO1, are gonna be played before playoffs? 16 teams, everyone can't meet every team I'm assuming... Confused
