FaZe and Copenhagen Flames win to open Stockholm Major Challengers Stage

Copenhagen Flames continued their recent rise with an upset victory over reigning Major champions Astralis.

The A stream saw the Stockholm Major get the first upset out of the way early, as Copenhagen Flames romped to a comfortable 16-6 victory on Overpass against defending champions Astralis. The result was never really in doubt, with Astralis winning the first pistol and converting to a 3-0 lead, before managing a measly three rounds for the rest of the map.

roeJ helped carry his team to a surprise victory

Astralis didn't get going in either half, particularly struggling to crack some of the creative CT setups displayed by Copenhagen Flames. One of the few rounds they did manage to post required a 4k from Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen, whilst another saw Emil "Magisk" Reif and Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth succeed in a 2v5, suggesting the result could easily have been even more one-sided.

As for the Flames, they had Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen and Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi to thank for getting the majority of the fragging work done, but it was a team effort overall as four members of the team posted over 85 ADR.

 Astralis K - D +/- ADR KAST Rating2.0

17 - 15 +2 89.6 68.2% 1.14
15 - 16 -1 86.6 72.7% 1.06

Over on the B stream it was FaZe who emerged victorious over Spirit 16-11 on Overpass. Winning and converting both pistols was key for FaZe, as it was generally a back and forth map.

Spirit will be disappointed to have not converted more opening frags as they actually bested FaZe in this department 15:12, with Nikolay "mir" Bityukov and Abdul "degster" Gasanov being particularly successful.

FaZe saw a surprise appearance at the top of the scoreboard from Finn "karrigan" Andersen, who posted 100 ADR on his way to a 1.34 rating, and an encouraging performance from Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken on the secondary AWP, who produced a scintillating 4k with the scoped rifle to close out the map.

Bro.. this game was 75% winnable for Copenhagen Flames lmao how could they win 3-0 on this stage? Look at both teams win rates on Overpass, Astralis is under 30% and Copenhagen was 75% lmao ez win for CP. Btw I tried to predict all vetos yesterday. Astralis vs CP was on point. Veto here. imgur.com/a/c3w1YhV

I could see this victory coming, but not in this fashion. Astralis didn't just lose, they were demolished. God olof making history once again with the 1st ace in the major. ALSO, THIS PGL PRODUCTION IS ASS.
