Hobbit: "Everyone's talking about NAVI winning this Major, but things don't always work like that"

We spoke to Abay "⁠HObbit⁠" Khassenov following Gambit's qualification to the semi-finals at PGL Major.

Gambit are the third team to advance to the PGL Major Stockholm semi-finals following a 2-0 victory over FURIA.

It wasn't quite as one-sided a series as many predicted, with the Brazilians taking the CIS side to the limit on Inferno as they forced overtime from an 11-15 deficit, but Gambit pulled through in the end to deny FURIA the comeback and closed the series in two on Overpass.

After the third quarter-final series, we got a hold of HObbit to hear from him about their struggles at the end of the Inferno affair and whether his role as the veteran played any part in making sure Gambit stay calm under the pressure.

The Kazakhstani star also shared his thoughts on the pressure that is on Natus Vincere, who are massive tournament favorites in many people's eyes, and told us whether he'd prefer to face their regional rivals or Vitality, against whom Gambit have a losing record.

I mean, b1t is great, but his rating is around 1.09. Electronic performed better than him in 2021. B1t definitely enters top 20. If he has good performance like he has now at the major and as he did in Cologne then we might see b1t in top 10. But I dont think b1t enters top 5, no way. He will enter top 5 if he will be mvp of the next tournaments in 2021 and that is hard considering s1mple is on the same team. Players like device, jame, yekindar, electronic, Kscerato maybe will be in top 10.

jame didnt get any impact at the major until the last maps, sure they were important but considering how much VP invested into him unlike any other team out there he underperformed extremely hard. Device played alright not great but NaVi will have won most of the big tournaments which was a big part of the rankings in the last few years and the bug reason why Zywoo got #1 Electronic yeah sure, but b1t had a bigger impact in the last few tournaments so we'll see. Crazy anyway, 4/5 or even all 5 NaVi players will be top 20 this year Kscerato played very well but idk he didn't play as often in EU so yeah

To be honest I did not watch any games except for the NaVi games. So, I cant say about any players impact. I just made a top player list filtering the major events. And by rating, Jame and Yekindar were around in top 10. Also Jame has an MVP this year so thats why I thought maybe he might enter top 10. Also it depends which events have more weight. I mean, surely the major is the most important event so the MVP of the major cannot be on the same rank as the MVP in Katowice 2021 or Even Cologne 2021. Same goes for the EVPS. So I think players from Navi (b1t and electronic) and G2 players (Niko, Hunter? maybe) they could get an "extra boost" in the rankings. And yeah, the fact that navi won most of the tournaments so far will place Electronic and B1t higher. About Kscerato, you are right, he does not have too many maps played compared to the other players so despite the high rating, he might be between top 10-20. But, anyways 3 big Lan events are left (Blast fall, IEM winter and Blast Global) and these events will have more impact in the players rating compared to the online events. Also Navi will not be playing at IEM Winter, so maybe Niko will get the MVP there? or he will choke again. not sure, what I meant is that the rankings will shift depending on the outcome of these events.

by the desk you mean only richard , beacuse he was the main antagonist i was reading him with full focus and i could see that he wants gambit to feel the pressure and because he is a navi fan which unfortunately he isnt good in hiding while giving his outputs on desk, therefore he kept on blabbering negatives about gambit to get into their heads, because pro players do listen and read what experts say about them. as for Thorin, and Bleh they just followed Richard's suite as he was leading the convo that this gambit is bad, but Maniac was somewhat in support of Gambit 70-30 he had doubts about them only because of the ot on inferno but defended them for the second saying that "Furia won the ct pistol and t side force and anti force giving them 5 round advantage, if not for that it would have been much more disgusting score". so yeah by desk you mst say it Richard Lewis because he just wants Gambit to fail so his Favourite Team can win the Major, BTW if you are good at reading body language then watch the stream again you can see the fear and potential Heartbreak in his eyes while he was speaking that nonsense.

We'll see. Had Vitality not had played 4v5 tonight, NaVi's run could already be over. NaVi certainly have a psychological advantage over Gambit because of their latest confrontations, but Gambit have no Kyojin. If Ax1le, HObbit and sh1ro are on tomorrow anything can happen.

Of course anything can happen CS is not like science, but since you mentioned Kyojin which is for me still a good player, that does apply to Gambit too not all Gambit player are used to play semis and finals especially in Majors at least if you compare them to NAVI which is the most experienced team maybe exclude just Hobbit all the rest are still fresh and newbies this doesn't mean they are bad no, but the experience is important in a Major NAVI roster is used to it they can control the pressure and know how to get back in-game especially when they are tested and find themselves in difficulty we saw it yesterday against Vitality the experience played an important role in that matchup you could tell Kyojin was out in Nuke he was helpless poor kid I like him though unlike NAVI players they were so chill and calm, as I said it's all about that confidence NAVI has it even Niko said it apart NAVI all teams are beatable don't tell me Niko doesn't know what he's saying, you can tell that he defeated NIP all by himself :D anyway, Gambit can do it, but the way they played Inferno against Furia yesterday it didn't convince me that much that's why NAVI looks the best they don't struggle at all compared to others the more they play the more it feels they will be the one unless something really terrible happens and changes the whole thing today against Gambit or at the finals apart from that they really have that spirit of a champion like you say in French "parcours d'un champion" to put it up that way if you want =)

If you don't think they can be beaten idk what to say. They won a very close 16-11 16-13 with a player that went 16-44 and pas basically useless on nuke. Not to mention a few apEX brain farts in his lead like this stupid rush B and the round when hé fell from the silo... And for NiKo to say that us juste shenanigans, of course every team think they can win or they shouldn't be here. It's just giving NaVi a false sense of security and putting more pressure on them. Of course NaVi should win 7-8 times out of ten on regular circumstances but this is the major and with the pressure of direct élimination anything can happen and it narrows the gaps. PS : I don't have much hope for G2 against NaVi though, they got torched vu NaVi in a final already and considering the psychological side of things they are the least likely team tonuoset NaVi from those who remains.

They give too much respect to NAVI that's why they can't beat them maybe the only team who didn't give NAVI any respect in this Major was Vitality and they got eliminated by NAVI tbh with you for me the only team who was capable to beat NAVI was Vitality for many reasons, like having Zywoo, historically speaking Vitality won most head to heads etc Vitality could be the nemesis of NAVI, but they got beaten pretty bad last night (2-0). As for G2 they have to overcome Heroic first today and NAVI to overcome Gambit if both teams will meet in the finals I wouldn't say it's going to be easy for NAVI because in a final match everything can happen although on paper NAVI are the favorite not just now, but since the very beginning of the Major. Let's just hope to see some good CS regardless who would win in these matches I personally don't have a certain team to cheer for, but in my humble opinion it would be so unfair if NAVI doesn't win this Major let's be honest and real if you compare NAVI to the others especially in this tournament any logical and honest person would tell you NAVI deserves it the most because of the record they been up to and the performance so far, like 0 mistake.
