THREAT to transition out of head coach role after IEM Winter

The 33-year-old will become Ninjas in Pyjamas's Counter-Strike Technical Director, focusing more on the tactical side of the game.

Björn "⁠THREAT⁠" Pers will no longer be the head coach of Ninjas in Pyjamas after the conclusion of IEM Winter, the Swede has announced. Instead, he will move into a Technical Director role with the organization, looking to help the team from off the stage.

The impending change marks the end of THREAT's second stint coaching Ninjas in Pyjamas. The 33-year-old tactician previously lent his aid to the old Ninjas in Pyjamas lineup from 2016-2018 before stepping away from the game, only to later make a return at the end of 2019 alongside Faruk "⁠pita⁠" Pita before taking over as head coach at the start of the following year.

THREAT will no longer stand behind NIP after IEM Winter

Despite THREAT's help from behind, Ninjas in Pyjamas have struggled to secure title wins over the last two years, their sole tournament win coming at IEM Fall Europe. A runner-up finish in Flashpoint 3 also helped the team to secure a berth at PGL Major Stockholm, where they made it to the quarter-finals before being knocked out by G2.

As Ninjas in Pyjamas look toward 2022, THREAT will change his focus to aiding the team from outside of the server as the team begin searching for a new head coach. "While I love being onstage with the guys, I love even more to get really stuck into the tactical stuff and seeing my plans unfold on the server," he said his announcement.

"Me and mahone [Danny "⁠mahone⁠" Hsieh, NIP's analyst] will continue to work day and night to develop the game plan while the new Head Coach will keep the boys focused on the game and making sure we deliver when it matters the most."

After IEM Winter, Ninjas in Pyjamas will be left with:

Very true, but are these random, disjointed t-sides really the result of threat? Seems hard to believe he would want them to play like this? Do all teams have a role like this - Technical Director? Seems weird - like a case of "too many cooks". Analyst and technical director come up with the tactics, and then the head coach... doesn't? Isn't it kinda the opposite? Es3tag is more of a long term investment. They have an academy team that they can use to build up talents in the Swedish scene. Dev1ce wasn't supposed to be a short term thing either. THREAT has been with NiP for so long now, but he'll still be working as a coach on the tactical aspect. It's post major, everyone makes changes. 2 of their most recent changes were switching ztr for LNZ and LNZ for Es3tag. It's 2 changes that have to do with their academy team, and they both seem to have happen because the players weren't ready/good enough for tier1 competition. This recent change with THREAT won't change much, he'll still be working on their tactics, but there will just be another coach to hype the team up and apply those tactics during matches. I don't think the changes they makes are too drastic, they're meant to make the team better long term

I think this is a bad move, threat is the rock of NiP has been for awhile. Its not his fault hes forced to play with academy players every other event, IE: ztr, LNZ, now phzy
