The BLAST Premier World Final saw Natus Vincere close the season with another title, pulling off a run from the first round of the lower bracket to maintain their dominance in the latter half of the year and enter the off-season as the undisputed best team in the world.

As usual, s1mple was the main man behind the CIS team's success as the BitSkins.com MVP of the tournament, earning his eighth award in NAVI's eighth title run in 2021 to break Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz's record for most medals earned over the course of a calendar year and match the Dane's 19 career MVPs.

It wouldn't be s1mple if he didn't pull off some jaw-dropping plays throughout the tournament, the best of which we compiled in a highlight video produced by Filip "filq" Szatkowski.

In the minds of many viewers back then, not true. That was device's peak performance (in terms of ratings) and his Major + Major MVP + Grand Slam + 10 Trophies + 7 MVPs. Compared to s1mple's 4 trophies + 6 MVPs, many people argued that device deserved Top1, especially since device destroyed Navi at the major finals. Of course, s1mple was the overall best player of 2018 (no doubts), and it was the official world record for the highest individual performance in CSGO history. That world record is still (even after 2021) touched by only one other player - s1mple himself in 2021. But the Top1 2018 wasn't so undisputed for the entire CSGO community, if you know what I mean xD.

Yes, individually speaking, GTR 2013, s1mple 2018, and ZywOo 2019 are considered the highest peaks in CSGO history. Looking at the overall context, "it wasn't even a debate as to who is the best player of the year", as per HLTV. I was just talking about the unanimous agreement within the community. I have only seen that twice in CSGO. Once in 2013 (even if GTR didn't win the major) and now in 2021, where there's literally no other valid argument.

I mean, you could talk about a player's career in terms of achivements i wouldn't disagree with you saying device is the GOAT. but skillwise, being a really outstanding individual and being an X factor in pretty much almost every big tournament I'd say with no doubt that s1mple is the GOAT of csgo

Oh yeah, true. Damn, how could I forget xD "Niko is the most skilled player in esports history. Coldzera only baiting and winning MVPs. Niko real Top1" xDD I guess then 2015? Actually, even GuardiaN and kennyS kinda challenged at one point. Cluj Napoca 2015 was a treat. And Olof wasn't even the highest rated player. And 2014 was a community civil war between Flusha fans and GTR fans. Kinda like s1mple vs ZywOo for 2020 Top1. Holy shiiiit, was 2013 the only other year that was this universally undisputed, where literally nobody could even argue?! O_O

Not even Cold's was undisputed. Niko and Cold fans were in a perpetual state of war, I remember now. It was so long ago lol. And GTR 2014 wasn't so dominant tbh. In fact, it was controversial. GTR 2013 though, was something else. Agreed.

In the eyes of objective experts, definitely. But for the entire CSGO community, not really. As long as a player doesn't have the best stats AND wins majors + major MVPs + all the big trophies, AND also most MVPs, there are always people that will argue against the case. device won both majors and a major MVP + tons of big events of 2019, while having similar stats as 2018. Many in the community argued, "device robbed 2 years in a row"

Yes, true. But that wasn't the point, my friend. In 2019, ZywOo didn't win any major or major MVP (Astralis/device won both majors + 1 major MVP). ZywOo didn't win the Grand Slam (Liquid won that). ZywOo was 1.30 rated while s1mple was 1.29 (significant overall stats difference, but many argued that s1mple would have 1.30 at least, if they didn't bring in GuardiaN for no reason), and so on. The point: 2019 wasn't unanimously undisputed with no arguments whatsoever. Many people had many kinds of arguments. In 2021 for example, there is literally nothing to argue. Won major + major MVP + grand slam + 8 MVPs + all the biggest LAN events + highest stats of all-time + highest rated in literally every stat category by a huge margin. No angle to argue. Only GTR 2013 had this kind of dominance, though even he didn't win a major in 2013. Given the context of 2013 vs 2021, this could be the most dominant year in CSGO history, by far.

Of course, ZywOo was definitely Top1 in 2019, if we consider everything, and HLTV Top20 Rankings prove that. However, the point I made was simple - For every Top1 in CSGO history, from 2013 to 2020, there were always other players who either had better stats or more MVPs or more majors or more overall trophies, and so on. In 2021, it is the first time in CSGO history, where the Top1 is at the top of literally everything (stats, MVPs, trophies, Majors, etc).

Best Player of All Time (BOAT) As funny as that acronym sounds, I have my reservations. 1 more dominant year for Navi, and s1mple would become the undisputed GOAT, in my opinion. Great work and all the best! :)

I don't agree. With such a year he IS the GOAT let's get real. Device was never the best player in the world and is not nearly as efficient if he doesn't have a great system around him (as proven this year.) There no realistic candidate to challenge s1mple as goat other than device, so s1mple wins. goat. His only future threat will surely be zywoo, as I don't see device overcoming him in the future, more like the other way around.

Of course the guy skyrocketed at the top he has so much time in front of him and has already achieved so much, we have still yet to see him reach the peak of s1mple though. A good start would be giving him a proper team... I'm not convinced yet by that new vitality..

I think that the GOAT should have the most individual achievements as well as all the biggest team achievements, in addition to the best all-round stats. s1mple needs 1 more Major MVP to become the most accomplished (individually) player of all time. Both device and Coldzera have 2 Major MVPs each. Other than that, s1mple has pretty much everything.

Following your logic s1mple is the GOAT. He has by FAR the best individual stats compared to device (not the same league lol) coldzera is not even in contention. He disappeared out of nowhere, he was consistently at the top for only 2 years, s1mple has been at the top for pretty much 4 years straight now (and in every one of those years, above device in the individual rankings). I don't understand where this stupid "you need 2 majors" rule comes from, it makes no sense. He already tied device all-time MVPS despite playing considerably less tournaments and having historically way worse teams. There is no debate. Get real.

"S1mple (an individual player) needs 1 more <award that can only be won in a team> to become the most accomplished ("individually" lol) player of all time". MVPs can only be achieved if you're in the final, and in about 90% of the time, also in the winning team. So not a single player can get an MVP by just himself, as the game is 5on5. The best player on the team will automatically get the MVP, but first, the TEAM needs to win. So all Major win/MVP talks for individual players are such BS i can't even comprehend how people are still using that to justify their arbitrary "GOAT police" statements

Well, it is what it is. You can have your own perception of how you define the GOAT. This is what I felt. If you think about it, not a single achievement is all about the individual, in a team-based game like CS. In order to have stats like that, a player needs other good roleplayers on the team who all do their job. Without a good team, the stats would go down and if the team becomes a Tier2 (or below) team, the players wouldn't even be considered for Top20 Rankings, no matter how great the stats are. Unless someone literally played 1v5 (not just metaphorically), they can't claim full credit for their stats, at all. All kinds of stats, MVPs, awards, trophies, etc, only become possible with a good team. In that case, none of these achievements can be used to justify/counter GOAT-status arguments. You can choose to do that, though I don't agree. It doesn't matter if you are the so-called most talented player in the world in a trash team, if you/your team can't win anything. Greatness is about the greatest achievements in the game. In a team-based game, no achievement is truly individual, and with that logic nobody could be GOAT.

Well what you say makes no sense. In your first post you said s1mple is not worthy of GOAT status and then you say that the idea of GOAT makes no sense in cs because it's a team-based game. You are in contradiction. If there is no GOAT then why would you post something about s1mple being a GOAT or not ? Then there is no goat in every team based games ever ? Hard to believe. There are always individualities that are so exceptional they are apart from the others. In CS:GO you can't argue that s1mple and device are the 2 best in history, on individual and team-based aspects, because they are above others by a mile. Then between the two, there is again almost no more argument favoring device after this year. device is in front only in pure raw team achievements, that's all. (meaning, let's say, in tournament victories.)

Dude, you completely missed the point lmao. I was countering #105 who said that "1 more Major MVP" is a bad argument because that requires a good team, and it is more of a team achievement, in that sense. To that I replied, that everything is a team achievement in a way. Stats, MVPs, trophies are all team achievements, if you think about it. Clearly, that doesn't stop anyone from using them to justify someone as GOAT. Thus, #105 's point doesn't make sense. That was the point.
