NIP, MOUZ secure final IEM Katowice group stage spots

The last two matches of the Play-In saw the two teams featuring stand-ins emerge victorious.

The complete team list for the top-16 stage of IEM Katowice has been set following the conclusion of the Play-In, from which MOUZ and Ninjas in Pyjamas became the final teams to advance following 2-0 victories over Entropiq and Movistar Riders, respectively.

Ninjas in Pyjamas bounced back from a lackluster showing on the first day of the tournament, where they had taken an opening win against Wisla Krakow before falling in a rather one-sided series to Copenhagen Flames to miss out on their first chance at qualifying for the main event.

hampus' T side aggression helped NIP take Vertigo over the line

Looking to recover from the loss in the lower bracket, Ninjas in Pyjamas made quick work of Movistar Riders, kicking off the series on Vertigo with a 5-1 start on the CT side. The Spaniards kept themselves competitive as they began to rally back following their second gun round, managing to tie up the score at 6-6, but it was an inspired showing from Nicolas "Plopski" Gonzalez Zamora that helped Ninjas in Pyjamas to edge out an 8-7 lead at halftime.

After the sides swapped over, Movistar Riders were quickly swept aside, unrelenting aggression from Hampus "hampus" Poser dismantling their CT defenses as Ninjas in Pyjamas raced to a 16-9 finish.

Overpass was an even less competitive affair as Ninjas in Pyjamas remained in firm control from the onset of the map, another solid showing on the T side proving key in a lopsided first half scoreline. The Riders initially held a brief lead at the start of the map, 3-1, but were unable to hold on to it as they only garnered three additional rounds as Ninjas in Pyjamas brought things to a swift end to earn their spot in the main event.

torzsi continued to put up stellar numbers for MOUZ

After falling short to FaZe on the first day of the Play-In, MOUZ were able to recover in the lower bracket against Entropiq to secure their own berth to the top-16 stage. Jon "JDC" de Castro and Ádám "torzsi" Torzsás were shining beacons for the team across the series, with the former player helping kick off a dominant T side effort on Vertigo at the start of the series.

Christopher "dexter" Nong and David "frozen" Čerňanský were also key in helping the team secure a 10-5 scoreline at halftime, but once the sides swapped over, a comeback effort was in full force from Entropiq. For a brief moment, it seemed as if the Russian team would steal away the win as they managed to gain the lead at 14-12, but MOUZ managed to stabilize and narrowly take the map over the line in round 30.

Ancient marked a stark departure from the narrow margins of the first map as it was MOUZ who were in control from end to end, with torzsi stepping up to bat for his team as they won ten rounds in a row on the defense. Following the side swap, Entropiq were only able to garner a pistol round win before MOUZ got back to their winning ways, securing five final rounds to swiftly bring an end to the series.

FaZe is still way more promising than MOUZ Still a solid team but pound for pound only awpers comes in some discussion where you could make an argument for either to be better. Igls is obv, rain for Nbk also obv, ropz for bymas as well and so is Twistzzz over frozen.

He was 12th because he baits, yeah, but he still got the frags from baiting and not whiffed/missed but ""traded his team mates""

Maybe a ranking that values stats instead of impact this highly doesn't make too much sense then... He's obviously not a bad individual player but others played far better but ranked far lower/not at all last year

He's not a bad player, just not as good as twistzzz, currently. He's younger so his potential is higher however on a short term basis twistzzz remains a much better and proved player. This is what ropz wanted, a proved winning team who could achieve results now, not next year.

Movi, Entropiq look similar to their major form but just way rustier. NIP seem to be getting more consistent why phzy but it's still a crazy house of cards that will crumble when poached by a better team. Problem will remain as long as device is away and all the rifflers keep being so Hitt and miss. Mouz look very torzi sentried but their foundations seem very solid. Their structure and staff gives me a Lot of trust on where they're going as a team Nbk should watch his back because mid term performance like that will cost him dearly, as Mouz NXT still has many who can do his job.

Agree, Entropiq was coming to this tourney warmed up and to lose against the team with new players that haven't played any official map for months - that's sad.

NKB fan, but he should really start doing some aim botz. This match was really hard to watch. He lost almost every duel he took. If his performance stay like this, MOUZ should just -NBK +JDC and keep Bymas

To some extent I have to agree, but he just came back from retirement, so he'll get his time to adjust. Also, given the IGL situation in CS:GO right now, I think it's a decent idea to have dexter and NBK- in a similar setup like MOUZ had back then with ChrisJ and styko. They should have enough firepower with frozen, torzsi and JDC/bymas.

The more I think about it, it's been a great match by MOUZ overall. That Vertigo win was close, but that's exactly what they had to work on: Being resilient and closing out difficult maps. Also, it seems like MOUZ finally got a coach with impact again. sycrone is versatile, both cheering up and having a sense for strats. It will probably take some time but the whole situation looks much more promising than it ever did last year.
