Astralis sign Farlig

The 22-year-old is joining Astralis to take over sniping duties.

Astralis have announced the signing of Asger "⁠Farlig⁠" Jensen on a free transfer. The Dane will take Philip "⁠Lucky⁠" Ewald's spot on the active roster just weeks after being released from his contract with FunPlus Phoenix.

Changes in the Danish squad come just three months after the organization brought in Kristian "⁠k0nfig⁠" Wienecke and Benjamin "⁠blameF⁠" Bremer. The new lineup initially impressed with a top-three finish at the BLAST Premier Fall Final, but then dropped out early at the following tournaments.

The Danish AWPer will take Lucky's place in the starting five

The move comes as little surprise, as Lucky had struggled to make an impact on the AWP since arriving from Tricked in August 2021; his best event for Astralis whilst wielding the big green gun was a 1.04 rated performance at BLAST Premier Fall Groups last year.

Such were the youngsters struggles on the sniper that he was taken off AWPing duties for several tournaments during his Astralis tenure, the final three events of 2021, with Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander stepping into the role.

The organisation seemed to confirm that Lucky had not displayed the individual level required of him, with Kasper Hvidt, Director of Sports at Astralis, stating on the organisation's website that "unfortunately and despite all his and the team’s work, we have not been able to get the best out of him".

Lucky's replacement, Farlig, arrives having been out of the professional scene for several months after the collapse of the FunPlus Phoenix roster. He was the best player statistically for that team, and has displayed star potential throughout his career, having also previously featured for GODSENT and Copenhagen Flames.

Astralis believe they have gotten a straight upgrade, stating in their announcement on their website that they were "picking up a skilled, aggressive player with lots of firepower who can contribute from day 1".

No extra buyout, true, but Farlig has inconsistency problems. He could go nuclear one game and bottom-frag in the next game, kinda like k0nfig. I'd rather have a consistent and reliable AWPer than an inconsistent one. Besides, Astralis' problem isn't just Lucky. The main problems are the role clashes between xyp and blameF, between lucky and gla1ve, xyp's and k0nfig's underperformance, and ofc AWPing and coaching. As I said, this move isn't necessarily good, but it couldn't be worse than what it is.

It's kinda funny how xyp played his best last year during major qualifiers and then signed the contract and then tanked to such a low level. Astralis mgmt is a weird one imo. It's really hard to mess up a team so badly with such high potential names like konfig, blamef and glaive.

I think if Gla1ve implements his system well and Xyp9x steps up, then Farlig will have very good conditions to finally find consistency, same goes for k0nfig. I think this Astralis lineup can be top5 if Xyp9x steps up.

Sorry but hell no xyp9x was doing better then bubzki when xyp9x recovered and came back. Let alone talking about being a support player. If you would be talking es3tag or valde in this day and age then yes they would be an upgrade over xyp9x. but they would never beat his legacy role preformance. xyp9x was the best support player if you ask me. yes better then Flusha.

2021 was awful for all the FPX players hence why they disbanded. They skipped several of the biggest tourneys like Cologne and had no consistency. In 2020 Farlig averaged 1.14 rating against top5 with a 1.15 rated impact as well.

He didnt fail at it. he was a good awper just wasnt good enough at it and/or the style of awping didnt fit I suppose. he still a solid rifler and great player in general. Perhaps Farlig is more of an aggresive and experienced awper? I doubt Farlig tbh but I guess they are out of options.

it could be a team chemistry issue, there are cases everywhere of talented players not playing to their potential. it seems like it would be better for both Lucky and Astralis for them to separate, and let each party go about their professional lives. As for Farlig, from what little I've seen of him in the past, he didn't really stand out as impressive - I guess Denmark is showing early signs of what happened to Sweden in terms of talent drop off.

he is more skilled imo lucky had 1 good event at fall finals which was a event that boosted up the whole team because of home crowd advantage just look how heroic crumbled because whole crowd was against them in that game and bubzki had better ratings than lucky on the riffle even tho he didn't even play his roles when he was in astralis because durphreh magisk and gla1ve were still there

Ratings is just a stat. Lucky impact is much greater, he also top fragged a few games wheres bubzkji never had such impact. under pressure lucky preformed better with having higher impact as well. both got tossed around with a few roles granted Lucky had more stability and wasnt switched up as much. Astralis with the new lineup as a whole had 1 good event. Not just him.

Not a problem at all, right now they don't have enough aggressive players, Farlig will have to be aggressive as well because both Xyp and BlameF are very passive and you need three aggressive players for defaults. bubzkji instead on Lucky would have been a massive upgrade but putting gla1ve on the AWP would have been a waste of his talent to find openings and exploit smokes.

They need BlameF to be agressive like he did at the blast event, and like he did in the later stages of complexcity. When he developed another side of him. Together with k0nfig they have more impact that way. but perhaps that is too easy to counter. Farlig will need to be aggressive on the T side yes.

Yeah you are right I didnt see bubzkji when he was in MAD lions. Thing is there are lots of tier 2 players within tier 2 competition that get tier 1 potential. and even have a good run against tier 1 opposition with their tier 2 team (MAD lions). What does that mean though when they get to a tier 1 team and dont have the impact anymore? it means they have found their match and cant consistently put up the same level of impact against such opposition. it also will adjust their confidence and effect their consistent output. I donno man if bubzkji really was as good as you mention. all I know is that when watching them in Astralis Lucky had more impact on the rifle. not even discussing the awp at this point. Xyp9x had more impact when he recovered and returned. Role wise they didnt have a spot for bubzkji.

+1 to be honest I'm glad they still just benched Lucky because if Astralis will still play bad even with Farlig in the team performing good then they should consider benching Xyp and put Lucky on his role and let him rifle because the guy is so skilled with the rifle than he is with the AWP. That will only apply in the case if Xyp won't have any impact for them and also will bring his team to mediocre or last place placements.

yeah Ave is too passive to be a coach in my opinion. They need someone to yell at them at get them excited like Zonic used to do. I think when you have players like glaive and blameF on the team who are very into strategising you don't necessairly need a coach who does that too, but you need someone who can hype them up. I would honestly try and switch Trade and Ave for a while since Trace is waay more outgoing and loud yeling

First of all - players absolutely do not keep their form. They get older, other players get better. The scene/meta changes. Xyp is 26. Lucky is 19. Average age of Na'Vi is 22. This is not for nothing. Xyp9x ain't fragging, he isn't clutching. This is a problem. Second of all - Fragging and Clutching are talent. Lucky is a better rifler. Support can be learned. The best support players can also frag and win clutches. Better to teach Lucky support than hang onto outdated Xyp hoping he starts to frag again. And Gla1ve has enough experience for 4 younger players. Xyp just isn't who he was 2 years ago.

Can't confirm, but I highly doubt it will influence rmr invites. Astralis is a business great with data and numbers, and raw precise info like this is a lot easier to handle than player performance. Astralis are financially a lot more stable than most irgs because of this.

This would directly break the rules that Valve clearly stated counter-strike.net/csgo_major_supplement.. "RMR invites are sent to teams of three or more players who played together in the Legends Stage of the previous Major." Other teams lost invites due to this rule, and this would be a serious issue if Astralis just gets a free pass out of nowhere.

Lmao what took them so long, i think acor and farlig were the only real options once dev1ce left, but acor went to mouz and farlig has never played at this level or has he ever been a superstar awper. I still think acor just had a really bad stint at mouz and would be a better pickup for astralis, but astralis is notorious for being cheapos, so that's why they picked up farlig i think. Still farlig is just a much better awper than farlig, so that's an upgrade.

Device leaving this team to live with her gf in sweden is biggest meme of csgo history. Consequences for him and astralis are brutal. I assume if he stayed in team magisk and dupreeh and zonic wouldnt go anywhere, they would probably -xyp9x in some time cuz of his performance drop. I really like blamef and k0nfig tho as players, i think they fit to the team quite well given the circumstances, I dont see problem in IGL and former IGL either, if they made clear who is in charge. Having extra ideas is always great. Ultimate fix to this team would be -xyp9x +device , i would keep lucky i think he has good chemistry with team, (i dont think he is T1 player aim/gamesense wise, but he is really lucky in the game and that compensates his weaker skills.) and i never believed in destroying team chemistry by adding more firepower. Gla1ve would need to be more consistent fragger tho. NO TLDR. (:

yes pretty much. astralis setting up their awper pretty poorly and expecting picking up a new one will fix their problems. there is a reason Lucky tore up every single T2 and T3 without much thought. Farlig will also fail, but it will not be his fault. Leadership needs to be removed

I don't think this fixes much, Lucky needed time to get to tier 1 but blameF held all the star player positions - making it impossible for Lucky to play on star level even if he was a star. S1mple would not have done much better with space that Lucky was given. I do not think this fixes much if anything. I feel bad for Lucky, kid was given a shit hand, got into dream team then for 10 events team was falling apart and playing with different rosters, then when they got a stable roster he was given shit roles. They are still gonna struggle to be top 10 with this, as long as blameF has so much space to sit back and bait he will do it and they'll never be decent on CT. And you fucking keep Xyp who is well past his prime and let's be real, after the break he took he was never near 50% of what he was.... I dunno man, i don't expect much from them. I don't know much about Ave too, but his body language suggests real lack of authority
