Renegades secure spot at Asia RMR

The kings of Oceania took care of business to claim the last slot at the event.

The Asia RMR open qualifier for Oceania brought little surprises as the region's dominant team for the past several years, Renegades, came out on top and ensured a spot at the Major-qualifying event.

Business as usual for Renegades

The Oceania qualifier took place on March 5-6, with the top-8 phase played in a double-elimination format and the final match being a BO3. In their first matches, Renegades took down FREE THE MANDEM and edged past a Michael "⁠chelleos⁠" Hawkins-powered Paradox to reach the upper bracket final.

Joshua "⁠INS⁠" Potter and co. clashed with their biggest domestic rivals ORDER next, but had little trouble dispatching of them, posting a 16-8 on Nuke. Good performances from Luke "⁠ekul⁠" Blakey and Declan "⁠Vexite⁠" Portelli weren't enough for ORDER to bounce back in the lower bracket, losing in overtime to Paradox, and setting up a Renegades - Paradox grand final.

Ultimately, the IEM Katowice 2022 Play-in attendes bested Paradox 2-0, confirming their status of the best team in the region and extending their unbeaten streak at domestic events to 16.

This means that Renegades will join TYLOO at the Asia RMR tournament in Bucharest, Romania, which will take place on April 15-16. Alongside them, Lynn Vision (who qualified through the Middle East qualifier) and IHC (formerly Checkmate) will be competing for the two PGL Antwerp Major spots reserved for Asia-Oceania teams.
