MIBR become first team to qualify for Major, Bad News Bears eliminated
Imperial's good run of form ends, being relegated to the 2-1 pool after today's defeat.
MIBR have qualified for the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 after taking down Imperial 2-1, claiming a 3-0 record at the Americas RMR. Bruno "BIT" Fukuda Lima's squad remained undefeated on Monday against 9z and paiN, earning them a 2-0 record before today's best-of-three qualification match.
MIBR's campaign is not over yet as they prepare to tackle the first-place decider match coming on Thursday at 11:00 to decide which 3-0 team will earn the Americas' Legends spot in Belgium.
Meanwhile, Bad News Bears' loss against 9z means their Romanian adventure has come to an end, being unable to attend the Major after going 0-3 at the RMR. The North American squad was relegated to the 0-2 pool following consecutive losses to Case and São Caetano on Monday, before being swept by the South American mix. Today's result puts 9z in the 1-2 pool, meaning they will need to win the next two matches to enter the decider for the 6th Major spot.

Imperial started the series on the front foot, partially thanks to Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo's fantastic Inferno performance which helped the Brazilians claim a 9-6 advantage before moving into the CT side. It took a few rounds for Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo and co. to get back in the game following their switch to the defense, but were eventually able to close the opening map 16-12.
Jhonatan "JOTA" Willian played a great series, finding a few impactful frags on Inferno before building on his performance on Vertigo. The 24-year-old would prove crucial for his team's T side, setting them up for a comfortable 16-8 victory on the second map to even out the series.
A comfortable 16-8 on Vertigo was quickly followed up by another great showing on Nuke. MIBR again shined on the offense, claiming a 10-5 lead before closing the series with a solid defense of the A bombsite, taking the decider 16-10 and stopping Imperial's ambitions to qualify to the Major undefeated.
Bad News Bears' last match at the RMR started on Inferno and saw the North Americans fail to make the most out of their CT side, only claiming a 9-6 advantage as the South American mix clung onto a couple of three round streaks to keep the game competitive. After switching sides, Maximiliano "max" Gonzalez went absolutely ballistic, ending his defensive half with a 22-5 K-D and a 2.92 rating to power 9z to a 16-11 victory on their pick.
Things seemed to finally be going the way of Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman's squad as they took the early advantage on Overpass, with Khizar "Momo" Rehman helping his squad claim a respectable 8-7 scoreline on the T side. Unfortunately for Bad News Bears, Luca "Luken" Nadotti did not want to be forced into a third map. The 25-year-old Argentinian played a fantastic offensive half, proving crucial for 9z taking the lead in the second half, stringing seven consecutive rounds before eventually closing the map 16-13, taking the series 2-0.
