BIG upset FaZe to qualify for PGL Antwerp; Dignitas eliminate GamerLegion

Finn "karrigan" Andersen's side will still have a chance to secure a Legends spot if they can advance through the 3-1 pool.

BIG have booked a spot in the Legends Stage of PGL Major Antwerp after scoring a surprise victory over world No. 1 FaZe in the 2-0 Swiss round, crushing the European combine on Dust2 before coming out on top of a tight affair on Mirage to take the series.

Meanwhile, Dignitas dispatched of GamerLegion in the 0-2 pool, sending Alfred "RuStY" Karlsson's side packing with no wins to their name after securing victory on Inferno and Vertigo.

BIG have earned a spot in the Legends Stage after beating FaZe 2-0

FaZe took an early lead on BIG's map pick of Dust2 to start the series, converting a pistol victory into a three-round spree before coming out on top of a back-and-forth trade to go up 6-3. However, from there onward, BIG were unrelenting and had firm control for the rest of the map, coming out on top of all three clutch situations as FaZe won only one of the next 14 rounds as the map was brought to a swift end.

A 6-0 lead saw the German team remain in control at the onset on Mirage, but FaZe finally got back into the swing of things toward the end of the half, helped in part by multi-kill rounds from Robin "ropz" Kool. With just one round separating the teams heading into the side swap, it was sure to be a narrow affair, and that is exactly what unfolded, the lead being exchanged repeatedly between the two teams.

In the end, it looked as if FaZe would be able to force a third map after they tied the scoreline at 14-14, forcing BIG onto pistols, but three Deagle kills from Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz helped BIG secure an upset round win before another quad kill from the in-game leader took things over the line in round 30.

In the elimination matchup, Dignitas got off to an early lead, but were put on the backfoot by a resurgent showing from GamerLegion toward the end of the half as RuStY's side narrowly emerged ahead 8-7. The side swap turned the tides entirely though, and it was Dignitas who were in cruise control for the rest of the map, winning nine rounds straight to close out the map in their favor.

Vertigo saw much closer scorelines between the teams, although this time it was GamerLegion who came out on top of the first half, a strong individual showing from Mihai "iM" Ivan helping to power his side to a 9-6 lead. Again though, Dignitas were resilient in the second half and began to rapidly regain ground, with GamerLegion only adding four to their tally before Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg and company edged out a 16-13 win to close out the series.

Faze wasn't in their full potential in mechanical skills. But in terms of strats they are doing pretty good and are trying their best. Absolutely impressive performance from BIG.

am shocked how «experts» like pimp and Professeur are not talking about BiG’s perfect discipline in retakes and afterplants. Every team in cs(except in cs 1.6) lose patience, peek for info, don’t trust a team8, or just throw at least a few rounds, when they can choose teamplay. This is the most perfect bo3 I have ever seen in csgo discipline-wise. Forget the nades, forget the shooting.. this was a masterclass in how cs used to be played(in 1.6 top lvl), can be played, and should be played in retakes and afterplants. Not a single over-peek in afterplants as T/everyone waiting, using nades, syncing perfectly in retake. School example.

yes look at first t round from faze on dust 2, where they are on the b plant for the first time. perfect nades flashes and teamplay to retake the site, one trade too late and the round is over. also on mirage so many close defuses where the kit player knows exactly when he has to stick the bomb, very calm retakes with good comms.

Yep. I was extremely impressed. No team to date in csgo have showed me this lvl of discipline, tp and syncing for a complete map, let alone two maps! They gave nothing away for free on T and nobody jumped the gun once on CT. I knew Tabsen had this in him as a player and caller. But after the disconnect of players and knowledge from 1.6 to csgo(not many igl’s from 1.6 that carried on to csgo because of the time it took for csgo to come out), i thought this level of discipline in afterplants and retakes would almost never arrive. I’m honestly really happy to have seen the first game at this level of discipline… and even with a young academy player(even though he was igl before). Great to see! I hope teams and players really learn from this game. You can play any style you want as a team regardless of meta, But perfect afterplants and retakes never change.

I think Gob B helping them with stratting in the hotel room really helps them right now. (in the article with tabsen interview they talk about that). Gob B should consider going back to CS as coach/Analyst role for BIG. Only backdraw is he only often overcalled and forgot the timer XD

He paniced a bit. He lost patience as ct. Especially on Mirage. He went for very late dry info-peeks alone. He just couldn’t handle the slow pace from BiG. He even pushed a smoke in con for info when I’m pretty sure Faze had window-control. Sudden NA-brain

I might be missing something, just got back to cs since this year. But why do navi etc have to qualify? Weren’t they legends from last major

well, Valve changed the rules, so now only top 8 teams from last major are directly invited to RMR, others have to qualify through Open/Closed Qualifiers
2022-04-18 21:25
0
Doesn't work that way any more. Amount of time between majors meant you always had dear lineups auto-qualifying just because they placed well previous major. Was even worse once the major became 24 teams. So now everyone has to qualify but those who place well will become legends etc. and have less games to play there. These RMR events have invites for those teams from last major as well I believe, and are seeded.

When they lost xantares, we were asking for firepower... they got gade (LOL), ok... it was hopefully just placeholder until faven's contract expired. Then they stick for unreasonable amount of time with both faven+tizian and finally they gambled. It really paid of so far, i am happy for the kid. This also shows how important are academy teams.

tabseN trust tiziaN a lot and he is important for the team spirit so it isimportant, that he is still at the team. faven was the right choice to. i was wondering about the changing from k1to to krimbo because he is an IGL at the academy team, so i thought prosus would be the better choice - but it worked so far, so i think it was the right choice because k1to also can help the academy team at the moment.

can anyone explain to me why Heroic is #1 and BIG #2? BIG has a better RD than Heroic. Were the enemies both teams faced the reason why Heroic is seeded #1 and BIG #2 (basically Heroic having a "harder" path?)
