Copenhagen Flames to build new roster

With the coach and two players already gone, and the other three up for sale, the Danish organisation are ready to build a brand-new team.

Following the announcement of the transfers of Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi and Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen to fnatic, Copenhagen Flames have released a statement detailing their desire to find new homes for Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard, Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen and Rasmus "Zyphon" Nordfoss.

A separate statement announced the departure of coach and Head of Esports, Daniel "Vorborg" Vorborg.

The players are fresh off the back of a playoff run at the PGL Major Antwerp

It is no secret that the organisation has been looking to sell their successful roster for some time, with the team nearly moving to Complexity at the end of last year before the deal fell through.

The organisation has cited a lack of resources to match the squad’s stature as the reason for seeking a buyer, stating ahead of 2022 that “there are some opportunities that we cannot offer in Copenhagen Flames, such as franchise slots and big salaries.”

Copenhagen Flames to retain roster for 2022

As for Vorborg, his statement referring to the organisation's lack of ability to keep a top-level roster, saying "I feel the need to challenge myself at that level."

The Danish squad had generally impressed since their breakout performance at IEM Fall last year, continuing to post victories and top placings in online tier-two events such as Malta Vibes and Pinnacle Series, and just recently made an immense run to the top eight at the PGL Major Antwerp. They also climbed to a peak of #9 in the HLTV world rankings.

Moving forward the organisation is hoping to build a new roster, CEO Steffen Thomsen explained.

"Going forward, our aim is to maintain our current level of play and results. Our next lineup will be one full of potential, and although we know the road back to the Major and the elite CS:GO teams will be tough, we have high hopes and plenty of confidence stating that this is our goal. We have plans to work even closer with our partners utilizing their resources in both data and science to accomplish this goal.

"If you are a supporter or fan of our club, please don’t be disheartened. We will continue being ambitious, daring and bold. And although players and teams change, our DNA and core way of creating winning lineups will not. Stick with us, it will be worth it."

it was extra salt core fang jt and floppy are cracked top NA players closes to break into t1 junior is inexperienced grim potential team liquid was dead when he arrived sadly tho team is in bad form. fang was burned out for a while ig he's fine now. junior is inconsistent and I feel his nerves are getting to him in big matches but giving them time to grow and develop is the goal there is 0 t1 oppunited during the covid era and no up and coming talent had experienced that there is no NA awper to replace jr ig there is nifty if he wanted to play he's been lowkey tho other that analist gig he had never seen him in pugs or fpl from the streams I watches but Col is dedicated to giving them time to develop and being patient like what extra salt did, if they leave the scene is basically dead since we got no top orgs support and t1 events honestly the reason NA been shit is because we have no t1 events everything is in EU if u cant go to eu u cant get good enough to play t1 events as well esl killed NA proleagues so furia, TL and eg was never here for the xp of playing against them but the scene will rise again with eg's blueprints and iem dallas ig team was rushing to scrim against t1 teams

Truth is, careers in cs are relatively short. To me, if NA teams moved to Europe for 2/3/4 years they could compete against EU teams, but they stay in NA playing against noobs. Sorry can't see Junior be a good awper, he needs tiiiime ? How many times has it been since he got recruited by Furia? That mf is a ytb highlighter nothing more. I won't even talk about JT.

ofc a single player wouldn't cost the entire lineup. But when we assume they sell them for 500k as a team you can say if they sell all players 1 by 1 they can get 800-900k in the best circumstances.

Definitely for the first two players, but now they have 3 players they need to get rid of. I'd imagine they're selling the remaining players for approx. 75k each.

That's what a lot of startups did in Sillicon Valley, create the startup get the workers invested in the company, then sell the business in 3-5 years for 10-20 mil and fuck off, lay off most of the workers, only the CEO and the investors make the big bucks. I m surprised, we dont see that often in esports, but who knows might see more of it as it becomes more popular.

they don’t make money with esports directly* brands like G2 and 100T are profitable (as far as i know), but due to the fact that they built a brand that people support (which means merchandise money etc. which is where the big profit margins are) but yeah CPH don’t have a comparable fanbase at all

I don't think it's that bad of a model, they give background to new young players, give them salaries, so they can fully focus on the game and then sell them after they become good, it is a win for both sides.

Which big org would have signed them before they joined Copenhagen Flames?? These kind of Orgs are required so the future talents have some place to show what they got. Some of them came from SNG that org absolutely has no business being in cs, as they ignore their cs division.

CPH Flames is a feeder team. Their entire existence is based on making new rosters and then selling them off when the bigger teams are interested. They've been doing this before this roster was made.

i get your point, but when the sale to complexity fell through they started beating their chests about how the squad wanted to stay with them and achieve great things together. I guess that was a load of bullshit to save face after a botched sale, then?

Perhaps? I can't really tell you what their management is thinking, only what they've done in the past. And with that said, they did start to slump hard when they went back to tier 2/3 online cups so it's possible that bigger teams dismissed their Stockholm run as a fluke and thus interest in them waned. It's entirely possible that this thing about wanting to stay together was perpetuated by coL wanting to buy the entire team before that deal fell through. With this run, they've shown that they're consistent enough to show up at big LAN events and make deep runs into play-offs. Plus, the org has secured their share of sticker money so that's a nice bonus for them as well. But like I said, this is mostly speculation.

U obviously don't know what's going on in the background. The org doesn't have the money and can't offer the players the grand opportunities that bigger orgs can give the players. They are actually helping them by letting them go to other orgs instead of just keeping them for themselves and paying them a lower salary

Well, its not everything about money you know, with less resources than most tier 1 teams they did a lot more so... I do not agree entirely with that logic, they could improve as an org and start making more money. Everyone talk as if they were limited for some reason to be talen-farmer organization

partner slots are shit, they shouldn't even exist, because of that you have teams like eg who end last in it's group 3 times in a row. Every team should gain their slot, not have it free Apart from that, as i said before, they should gain that slot like everyone else did

Thats the thing, they cant gain that slot unless someone sells their own slot, and not many orgs are dumb enough to do that.

Like the dude above said this is what the Flames have always done. It might seem weird now but they still have two great young players and a solid IGL. Roej is older selling him is fine. They’ll take chances and probably find more gems

Tbh I feel like that might happen. I'm not sure if anyone is willing to buy him. Sucks for him tho as I think zyphon and jabbi will find better teams so he might be the only one that has to continue with falmes.

I mean he is basically the new hunden. shit fragging but a great igl that can clearly develop talent. I mean roeJ went from an unimpressive boomer in Mad Lions to the best player of a t1.5 squad. I mean with all that talent in ML who would have thought roeJ is the guy with a promising future (well ignoring sjuush mainly acor and bubz kinda ripped)

Any idea why Fnatic didn't take Jabbi also? I would assume $$ was probably the reason.

Hooxi would have been a better idea.I mean fnatic needs an igl now, right? If hooxi was the igl of the team they should get him, it s not easy to find an igl nowadays.

fragging wise but even if ALEX didn t really had the best conditions or best players in the world idk what to think about him as an igl anymore.

I mean he had some decent results on C9 and almost made it to pro league playoffs (how the fuck did they lose to mibr but I mean the pressure they were under was something else it was like win or lose job). On Fnatic he literally took spare parts and brought it to pro league playoffs from a 0-2 start. It did help poizon was on the good side of his inconsistency and KRIMZ suddenly became good again as Brollan left, but I mean it cant be an easy job with 2 standins 1 of which is barely t2 level.

Idk how to feel about this.I thought they want to leave cs, no money to pay salaries etc etc (those were the rumours). Now they want a new roster? So they will keep building rosters, hoping they will find new good talents so they can later sell them and make the big bucks? Fuck this, good for them but i feel no love for the game.

they never wanted to leave cs. their cs squad was just getting too good and they can't pay the same salaries as the topteams. so they wanted to find an org for the players. the are content with giving newcomers a chance to rise, and always build new teams.
2022-06-03 15:18

They dont have enough money to pay high enough salaries for this roster so they dont have a choice really other than selling them. They'll get another low tier lineup that they can afford.

If they stay together, they could team up with some other players, maybe Bubzkji, Valde, Dev1ce, MSL, ... idk what other tier 2 Danish players are available.

Well, Bubzkji has retired as a pro, MSL unwillingly as well, but otherwise he'd be tier 3, Valde has played in tier 3 for most of his career now, so I guess only Dev1ce is a tier 2 player right now, at least if he plays again. Devve has had sick leave throughout Queen Elizabeth II's entire 70 year reign.

Denmark went from dominating CS to having 0 top 5 teams and only declining further. Couldn’t keep up with the aggressive meta. slow methodical CS just isn’t cutting it in 2022

Just like Sweden, we Danes had a golden period. But alas, nothing lasts forever. The CIS region is where it's at atm. So goddamn many talented players coming out of that region lately. And Denmark and Sweden just can't keep up with that at the moment. We also lost one of the most important figures in Danish CS in HUNDEN. A guy that used to teach up and coming players how to think about CS. It is an immense blow to the Danish scene.

Your own people killed hundens career. At least he had the integrity to expose that he wasn’t alone in cheating with spectator bug, his players on heroic knew about it and helped him into bug spot. Yet he was thrown under the bus by Danes to protect a few players careers. It’s pathetic really, if hunden can no longer compete neither should heroic players that were in the team at the time.

What killed his career wasn't the coach bug scandal but betraying the org he worked for. Nobody wants a coach that leaks tactics to other teams for whatever reason. Heroic kept him onboard even after he had been found guilty of exploiting the coach bug. What got him fired was sharing confidential information with another team.

All of them are good players, hope they find fitting teams. Looking forward to what roster CPH Flames will build and its iterations. I think it's always interesting to see the talent these "budget" Orgs like them, Endpoint and Mouz unearth or rosters they build.
