degster steps in for OG at BLAST

Just days after landing on the market, Abdul "⁠degster⁠" Gasanov gets the call to fill in for OG.

OG have announced that degster will stand in for the team at the BLAST Premier Spring Final. The Russian star comes in to fill the shoes of Mateusz "⁠mantuu⁠" Wilczewski, who will miss the Portuguese tournament due to falling ill after attending the Global Esports Tour Dubai last week.

degster recently landed on the transfer market, coming to a mutual agreement to part ways with Spirit just weeks following the team's surprising run to the semi-finals at the PGL Major. The 20-year-old cited personal matters preventing him from meeting the organization's demand to stay in Serbia long term as the main reason.

degster jumps in for mantuu in Lisbon

The AWPer is currently still tied to and is listed for transfer in Spirit, and the Russian side facilitated his temporary loan to OG for the duration of the BLAST Premier Spring Final.

The event will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from June 15-19, with OG facing a difficult group featuring two top-three teams in Natus Vincere and ENCE as well as BIG. The opening match will see Nemanja "⁠nexa⁠" Isaković's side face off against NAVI, who recently parted ways with Kirill "⁠Boombl4⁠" Mikhailov and have Viktor "⁠sdy⁠" Orudzhev stepping in.

OG's lineup for BLAST Premier Spring Final will be:

Because spirit will relocate to Serbia. Imperial is bootcamping in Poland right now, but they are not relocating from Florida to Poland. Just an example. Maybe a better example is Liquid, they Bootcamp almost the whole year in the Netherlands, but if they fully relocated to the Netherlands, the NA players wouldn't agree with the decision.

Not necessarily. From his tweet what I understood is that Spirit demanded to make decision on relocation ASAP, but degster couldn't for one or another reason. I believe that once those personal matters are settled he will be ready to relocate to Europe. Otherwise he'd not learn English if he really wanted to stay in Russia long term.

Just watched Overdrive video about degster leaving and turns out that his wish to stay in Russia is not the number one reason why he decided to leave Spirit. Degster wants to be the star player, he wants to play with more freedom. When hally became a coach, they were trying to build a structured team where there are no star-players and degster actually wanted to leave when patsi and siren got signed, because he didn't know if could find himself in that team. Basically overdrive said that degster doesn't want to play structured counter-strike, he wants to play in team with maximum freedom.

I feel this is a "tactical" stand-in to see how degster would perform in this lineup. While mantuu is great when he's feeling it, he's way too inconsistent though and often makes a bit overambitious plays (he wants to play like prime s1mple or something trying to get 2-3 kills and then gets easily taken down in the open)
