Wisla Krakow to cease operations

The Polish organization will leave esports after three years in the scene.

Wisla Krakow will shut down its esports division at the end of July, the organization announced on Twitter. The Cracovian football club acquired the adwokacik roster in October of 2019 and remained a staple of the regional scene for the following three years.

The roster was headlined by Grzegorz "⁠SZPERO⁠" Dziamałek, with the captain remaining a key figure of the team until his departure in July 2022. At the time of their announcement on Friday, Wisla Krakow only had Mariusz "⁠Loord⁠" Cybulski, Krzysztof "⁠Goofy⁠" Górski, and Kamil "⁠Sobol⁠" Sobolewski left on the team.

Wisla Krakow will shut operations at the end of the month

The Polish organization attended several regional LAN events throughout their stay in Counter-Strike, taking the trophy from ESL Polish Championship Autumn 2021 Finals. They also qualified for the Play-In stage of IEM Katowice 2022 earlier this year as the Polish representatives at the tournament before reaching their peak in the world rankings at #24.

However, things would only go down for the squad as they only qualified for one more offline event before the organization decided to shut down operations. By the end of June, Wisla Krakow had fallen down to #58 in the rankings and it was not long before Michał "⁠snatchie⁠" Rudzki left the roster, followed by SZPERO and Grzegorz "⁠jedqr⁠" Jędras.

"At the end of the month, we will finally end our adventure with the esports section in Wisła Kraków," stated Mieszko Łabuz, Wisla Krakow's esports manager on Twitter.

"Due to the closure of the esports section and the inability to continue this project I will be looking for new opportunities," commented Loord. "I would like to continue my adventure as a coach... I believe that the experience gained during the 20 years of my career can be useful for many teams," he continued.

I guess nobody out of Poland cares about that... But I am from Poland so let me say something about that and about our whole situation as a nation in csgo. I actually am really sad about Wisła news, it was expected because Wisła (as a football team) dropped from our 1st league to the 2nd so I guess money situation and the whole thing just meant they have to resign from things like esports teams (because they had more than just csgo). It is not sad because I am Wisła fan or something, it is sad because they were the only team in Poland that actually wanted to show others that investing into esports can be profitable and even though Wisła never was a t1 team they had their moments and was a strong t2 team imo. Right now I would like our scene to just be deleted so that we could start from the bottom. Players should play as free agent teams and only when they achieve something they should get org. Right now we have many teams where most of the players are working the same way which is "ok I have a contract so now I don't have to train hard anymore". Obviously not all of them but sadly most of them, we always had same nicknames on scene and even when new faces came and created the new team they were taken to the team where the core was known for years (I mean 3 popular guys and 2 of them not). We did not achieve anything (as a full 5) for a long time. I really like the fact that some of the teams know how good individually our players are (like dycha, hades, F1KU, mantuu) and just take them into european teams so that they can prove it. I think that it is actually the best way to do it with our players because our egomaniacs can't stand each other while playing as 5. I really wish to have VP-like team back but I don't see it coming soon and I fully agree with latest dycha interview about that. I guess we will just have to wait and see what awaits for us in the future.

So it's same situation as Schalke 04 They had the same problem in LoL, they bought an LEC spot which costs alot of money (Highest League in LoL) Then had that really bad season where they dropped from Bundesliga and sold their esport teams =/

Yeah it was really sad. I like to see the polish scene come back but it feels like Polish players can only play in mixed teams then they shine but can't play with eachother xd

and if we are talking about lol then it is the same situation for polish scene, we have a lot of players in LEC but all of them are separated in different teams, except for BDS as they have 3 Poles, but in League it is obviously a bit different as teams there are literally always mixed because it is franchise scene and everything

oh yeah I fully agree, I was G2 fan before Jankos so when he joined my god I was so happy, so many great memories since then, he becoming MVP multiple times, winning MSI, LEC and worlds finalists ofc, I really hope he plays for some more years, even though he always say he is so old rn haha

Interesting read, state of polish scene is very sad. I remember when we looked up at polish scene and hoped that our scene will be on the same level. Little did we know that in few years it will be completely opposite. I'm also glad that CZ/SK players don't have same mindset as Polish players, I was afraid about professionalism of our scene, but it really helped and now we have healthy scene with several competitive T2/3 teams.

You sure? SINNERS >> every PL team But what Polish teams are there? AGO, Illuminar and that's all? ENTERPRISE are probably better than that, then esuba and Eclot are atleast on the same level, maybe better. And CZ/SK scene is still going better, polish scene is still going downward.

AGO, Illuminar, Anonymo, Ungentium, Mouz NXT Sinners lost last match against pl team (mouz nxt) There are 2 pl teams in esea challenger (ago,wisla(mby core will stick to keep the spot), ungentium is 1 match away from it) Meanwhile there is only 1 cz team in this league (sinners) Ungentium won last matcha against eclot and mouz nxt won against esuba. I would say that pl scene is in the worst placement in the years, but for sure going better after squad changes (pact, honoris etc) Edit. + pl players in the good teams (f1ku,Hades,dycha)

But we are talking about Polish scene. The team is not located Poland, it wasn't Polish before, there is no Polish staff. If anything, it shows how the scene is bad if 5 t1.5 players go rather into foreign team. Also old HellRaisers wasn't CZ/SK team even if there were 4+1.

No because that was full polish team. Mouz NXT was full international team where 3 polish players joined (not even all at the same time). And no lol, CZ and SK = one country in esport

Apparently winning everything in domestic cups is not enough to maintain a decent tier 2 team.. I felt like all they needed is just more time together but it all burned out after failing first t1 quals.. They practiced only a couple of months with this roster before they approached it and suddenly lost all motivation to grind more together right after failing it, I dont get it why they gave up so fast..

One year ago I thought it can't get any worse for Polish scene, well I was mistaken, not only we don't have even decent teams, but now we'r losing organizations. Really sad, I understand the decision from Wisla tho. Hopefully we will bounce back someday :(
