Vitality go 5-0 in Group A; NAVI, fnatic clinch EPL playoff spots

The three teams will battle through the playoff stage when it begins on September 27.

Group A of ESL Pro League Season 16 has concluded, with Vitality posting a flawless group-stage campaign after their 2-0 victory over Spirit, knocking the Russian-majority squad out of playoff contention in the process.

Dan "apEX" Madesclaire and company's first-place finish in Group A allows the international side to start their playoff run straight from the quarter-finals, bypassing the first round of play all together.

ZywOo was in a league of his own in Group A with a stellar 1.45 rating over 12 maps

Natus Vincere guaranteed a place in the playoffs in spite of a three-way tie thanks to their head-to-head map difference over both Ninjas in Pyjamas and Spirit. Hampus "hampus" Poser and co., on the other hand, exit the event from the group stage after a shaky 0-3 start to the tournament left them with few scenarios in which they would be able to progress.

fnatic was able to advance to the next stage of the tournament following their comfortable 2-0 victory against Endpoint in the final round. This event in Malta marked Dion "FASHR" Derksen's LAN debut with the black-and-orange, and the 26-year-old not disappoint, as he boasted a solid 1.09 rating across the group stage — his team's second-highest performance behind Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen (1.16).

Endpoint end their time in Malta at the bottom of Group A with a 1-4 record. Max "MiGHTYMAX" Heath's men had an encouraging showing despite this, notably taking a map off of Spirit before upsetting Natus Vincere in a clean 2-0 series to get their sole win on the board.

Group B of ESL Pro League Season 16 will get started on Wednesday, September 7, pitting the likes of FaZe and G2 versus BIG, Outsiders, MIBR, and FTW, with three more spots in the playoffs up for the taking.

It’s 3-way tie though, Spirit had two wins as well. Map difference then counts, which Navi won.

Spirit beat NiP NAVI beat Spirit Nip beat NAVI NAVI has a map difference of -1 (6-7) Spirit has a map difference of -3 (4-7) NiP also has a map difference of -3 (4-7 aswell) So NAVI first (best map difference) Spirit > NiP (Spirit won against NiP) That's how you solve this 3 team ties Also i want to know what would happen if Endpoint won Fnatic (5 teams tie) if someone knows, tell me

Navi lost to fnatic and they have same map score, so probably same, excepr endpoint beat navi. Might have actually been endpoint 3rd if they went 2-0 instead of navi. Or endpoint 2nd fnatic 4th, <swapped around if 2-0 2-1

No brainer comment. It's a 3 way win-lose battle which resulted in tie. Navi had more map wins which is the second criteria if it's a tie.

Yes sometimes a team goes 3-2 and still doesn't qualify from other groups, like faze in epl season 14, faze went 3-2 and still didn't qualify. If there are no teams that goes 3-2 and doesn't qualify they should play tie -breaker matches to determine the qualification.

What? Faze qualified with a 3-1 score (W Eternal Fire W Vitality L BIG W MOUZ) in the Europe RMR A If you refer when they almost didn't qualify it was Stockholm major, they needed one of four (ence, riders, cph flames or fiend to end 8th) and they qualifyed when G2 beat Fiend (forcing cph flames or fiend getting 8th spot) by that time Outsiders still playing as Virtus Pro so you are wrong in everything

To be fair, we had 3 spots for playoffs, and only two teams in face of vita and fnatic played well enough to deserve spots there. As for that last spot, every other team that could take it have played like shit most of their matches, so be it navi, or nip, or ts, noone really did deserve this last spot.

it makes sense but it's more complicated. For instance if NIP would have won NAVI and spirit, direct comparison : NIP takes the place. But if NIP>NAVI, NAVI>Spirit, Spirit>NIP (which is the case here) we take the number of map won by each only between the three teams. as Navi won a map again NIP, they won a total of 3 maps in the 3-way confrontation. NIP and Spirit only won 2 (2 for nip facing navi, 2 for spirit facing NIP) So Navi get the spot.
