G2 sweep Liquid to claim BLAST Premier World Final title

G2 clinched the organization's first Big Event win since DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017.

G2's three-year trophy drought has finally come to an end after the European side took down Liquid 2-0 to secure the BLAST Premier World Final trophy. The feat marks the organization's first piece of silverware since Champions Cup 2019 and their first Big Event triumph in five years, dating all the way back to DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017, when the organization still fielded an all-French lineup. G2 delivered the North American side a 16-7 beatdown on their map pick, Inferno, and closed out the series 16-12 on Mirage.

A 1-2 loss to FaZe in the opening series put G2 on the back foot early in the competition, but they found their way to the grand final after taking down reigning Major champions Outsiders in the Group A lower final, knocking out Vitality in the quarters and exacting revenge on FaZe in the semis. Each member of G2 delivered a championship-caliber performance in the match, but it was Justin "jks" Savage who topped the scoreboard with 40 kills and a 1.35 rating.

Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov bagged the tournament MVP medal, making him the youngest player in history to win the award at a Big Event. The 17-year-old AWPer finished the competition with a tournament-high 1.24 rating across 12 maps to earn the distinction.

G2 finish the year with the organization's first trophy since 2019

A 1vs3 clutch from Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač kicked off the grand final as a back-and-forth exchange quickly ensued between the two sides, resulting in a 2-2 deadlock. Nikola "NiKo" Kovač pulled off a 1vs3 clutch of his own in the fifth, which sparked G2's seven-round spree to put them ahead 9-2. Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski stopped the bleeding with a triple in the 12th and Liquid picked up the last round before the switch, but G2 were still comfortably ahead 11-4 at halftime.

G2 and Liquid traded three-round streaks at the beginning of the second period, but it wouldn't take long before Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen's men wrapped up Inferno in convincing fashion, 16-7. jks was a reliable performer and constant threat all throughout the map, besting all other players on the server with a 21-9 K-D, 95.7 ADR and 1.59 rating in the end.

Mirage opened in similar fashion to the first map with both teams trading scores before G2 embarked on yet another lengthy spree en route to a 9-3 lead. Even with all the momentum on the Europeans' side, Liquid fared better this time around and won the last three rounds before the switch as the scoreline read 9-6 in G2's favor. The North American outfit's efforts were spearheaded by EliGE's team-high 12 kills, highlighted by a quad-kill in the 13th which snapped G2's run.

G2 hit double-digits and extended their advantage to five at the beginning of the second half, but when all hope seemed lost Liquid turned on the afterburners at the most crucial moment. Powered by the collective efforts of Keith "NAF" Markovic, EliGE, and the captain Nick "nitr0" Cannella, the North Americans breathed new life into the game and levelled the score at 11-11. Despite Liquid's best efforts at a comeback, G2 stood their ground and m0NESY delivered the final blow to wrap up the map, 16-12, and the grand final 2-0.

I meant for the tournament, not necessarily this match per se. A finals appearance, even if they got stomped, is a step in the right direction. Especially beating Outsiders and NaVi.

Think the same. They missed degster, whom they should have hired before YEKINDAR when he was available. Then they missed w0nderful... Maybe they can get heatr1ck or some other CIS prospect talent ? If a top AWP becomes available they need to go for him, especially if he is one with an aggro style, which will balance TL's passive players... Would be perfect blend : 2 super aggressive players ( let's say degster and YEK ) who both can entry, nitro who is pretty default in his aggression and NAF + EliGE who are more passive top riflers

Oh I’m sure he does but it does certainly show where his mind is and there are many guys working their butt off to take that #1 spot. I think he was the only one that wasn’t at the world final so it just shows his mindset and with that his ceiling is only so high.

Congrats G2. But the solo win since 2017 it's crazy for such superstar team. Finally niko can stay away from crying... it should be deserved. Hooxi is still a joke, idk how G2 won with him. I predict it's theirs last 1st place for the next several years if they don't change hooxi. Valve made a huge disbalance throwing in a buggy anubis for the last tournament and giving teams no time to prepare it properly while throwing out d2, which was worked a lot by some teams. Liquid has an advantage on this , but it didn't help as osee is playing only 1/10 of the games as expected from the awper. Idk why valve is so bad to change stable maps on something raw without any announcements in advance. A team has to work on new map while the are to many wellknown bugs. Then a patch may take place and a team needs to work on this again. Then another patch, and again the same.... At the same time if a team was playing the banned map, it has to work a new map, because they cannot ban it, while another team has not, because they were not playing on the banned map. The changes should happen. But not accidently and unpredictably. Say in advance, 1-2-3 monthes... and some teams will stop wasting their time.

They may love him or adore him, but if G2 play 4.5 vs 5 each time - they will not have a lot of 1st places. You can see that if hooxi don't play like a bot, G2 can reach the top. But it happened once, it will not be a rule. Anyway, good luck G2 - the more strong teams we have, the more spectacular cs is

We saw this example when karrigan was benched from FaZe. But when he returned to FaZe, FaZe again starts to achieve somethings (in 2022 they won 4 S-Tier events). By this logic, Karrigan should be kicked out of the team every day too.

Karrigan won a lot of clutches and can carry his team sometimes during the game (movements and kills), but Hooxi is different. Let's see where it will lead to... gl Hooxi :)

sure he's not having great stats but he doesn't need to. His stats iirc was somewhat ok for an igl, and with the rest of g2 taking turns to pop off under his calls i think he does a decent job

"still a joke" G2 have the best T sides I've seen in months. That comes from hooxi. After an 11-4 CT half against faze and coming back on T side and winning? Thats all god hooxi

actually faZe give g2 trophy for free, 13-14 nuke lost to eco and 14-14 2v1 lost a round wich 99procent times should win and inferno 11-4 lead just gave it away by playing really poor cs, its not like g2 was good, it was more like Faze shitted themselfes, so overall very lucky for G2 anyway gz

on inferno yes broky missed some shots at crucial rounds, but on nuke the last 2 or 3 rounds are hard-fought tbh. if it wasn't jks who did that 1v2 clutch im afraid the same stuff will happen on map 3 again

Lucky? Winners make their own luck kid, By that logic g2 should have won katowice grand final 3-0 they lost 2 maps in overtime and 1 map 16-14. Nobody was lucky in these 2 tournaments, Faze deserved to win Katowice and G2 deserved to win Blast World finals, Deal with it.
