shox links up with SmithZz and three newcomers

The team's name has not yet been revealed, but features the two veterans with three lesser known French players and a part-time coach.

Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon announced on his stream the creation of a new team with the goal of qualifying for the BLAST.tv Paris Major. The French veteran reunited with former teammate and retired Major-winner Edouard "⁠SmithZz⁠" Dubourdeaux and three French newcomers.

shox put a team together with the long-shot goal of making the Major

The former Apeks player revealed that there had been contacts with Falcons, but that he didn't feel like joining back up with Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt and Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub, something that "has been done and redone," and that he doesn't believe would go well years later.

shox also added that there was contact with LDLC, but he didn't want to join because he wouldn't have free rein since they have a whole structure and the 30-year-old is now ready to take charge and lead the team.

SmithZz, in his segment during the presentation stream, said that he's not trying to relaunch a playing career to get out of retirement, but that he has been brought on to add extra experience in trying to form the three neophytes until things are stable and he can move into a more managerial role.

Donning a One Piece sweater, shox presented his nakama one by one during the stream. Jeremy "⁠Kursy⁠" Gast, the team's hybrid AWPer and one of Sebastien "⁠KRL⁠" Perez's GenOne players, was the first to be revealed.

Then it was youngster Ryan "⁠Neityu⁠" Aubry's turn, who spent time with LDLC in 2022, before the final piece in the puzzle, 25-year-old Paul "⁠day0s⁠" Niel, who has no previous team experience but is known for his prowess on FACEIT, rounded out the roster's introduction.

Helping out on the sideline will be Boris "⁠flex0r⁠" Latry as an assistant coach, as he is not taking a full-time role. The 34-year-old already proved to be a talented scout in the French scene having brought up the likes of former Vitality players Nabil "⁠Nivera⁠" Benrlitom and Kévin "⁠misutaaa⁠" Rabier.

+1 but this is actually a decent move from him, trying to develop some talent instead of scoring a paycheck in Liquid or Apeks

yeah he said that if he wanted he could still stay on the bench at Apeks because he had a huge salary but he prefers to build his own structure with Smithz without being able to pay himself a salary and that they hope to make sure that they can develop the talents in France this is what we needed for a long time and therefore big respect to Shoxy for everything he has already done and what he will allow to do next <3

it was Shox who forced Smithz to join the team because Shox is going to be igl and therefore needed someone he trusted a lot and who could mentor the young people on the server. But Smithz said he was going to be there for the launch and around June he was going to step down when they have a youngster who can do what he does.

Interesting didn’t know this, thanks for the clarification. I thought this is another style of run “together until other team mates force smithzz kick” like it always happened. Yeah I know it’s always shox who wanted smithzz with him, I am not blaming or hating on smithzz. I have huge respect for a guy and I always liked him and shox. I always cheered for them against NBK and others, but yeah it was always shox’s own decision to fuck up his career and since I am his fan since 2014 it always frustrated me a lot, guy could have achieve much more with how good he was if he didn’t always insisted on playing with Smithzz all the time. Now with what you said, it makes much more sense and I wish them best of luck and possibly maybe somehow qualification for Blast Major because I am planning to visit Paris and watch major live :)

Yeah it will be my first time, so there is no way I get to see everything haha. So far I am planning obvious cultural stuff but two main things are to go watch Champions League semifinal if PSG makes it could be potentially played 16-17th of May and Blast major playoffs are 18-21st of May and if PSG doesn't make it then at least their Ligue 1 match which should be played 13-14th. Really want to see Messi play with my own eyes at least once in my life and feels like there isn't much time left haha.
