9z secure IEM Rio spot
Franco "dgt" Garcia starred as 9z made their way through the South American closed qualifier.
9z have secured the South American qualifying spot at IEM Rio after coming out on top of the closed qualifier. The Uruguayan-Argentine-Chilean side beat O PLANO, 00NATION, and Fluxo, recovering from an embarrassing loss on Overpass in a grand final rematch against the latter to lock their spot.
dgt was key to the entire run, as he was by far 9z's best player with a 1.25 average rating over 10 maps and put up crucial performances in all but one of their six map wins. The next-closest, Santino "try" Rigal, recorded a 1.01 rating, with the rest well in the red.

In Rio, 9z will have another chance at facing off against tier-one opposition after playing in the Major iteration of IEM Rio last November, where they narrowly missed out on a spot in the Legends Stage.
The tournament will take place on April 17-23 and will have many of the world's best teams in attendance, including the likes of HEROIC, FaZe, Natus Vincere, and Vitality.
The team list is almost complete, missing just one name from the North American closed qualifier, where MIBR and Complexity are facing off for the final spot in Brazil.
