Spirit Academy upset GamerLegion to win CCT West Europe Series 1

The squad ranked No. 94 in the world has secured an unexpected title in the CCT circuit.

Spirit Academy defeated GamerLegion in the final of CCT West Europe Series 1 with a 2-1 reverse sweep, winning Nuke 16-13 and Mirage 16-13 after losing the opening map of Inferno 3-16.

Spirit Academy already defied expectations by making it to the final, especially considering they were matched up against BIG in the first round of the playoffs. The German team came into the event as the highest-ranked team (16th) and the main favorites for the title but were beaten by Spirit Academy with a 0-2 scoreline. The academy squad continued their crusade by getting the better of Falcons and iNation ahead of their grand final affair.

S0tF1k lead his team of youngsters to a title

Spirit Academy's star duo of Artem "ArtFr0st" Kharitonov and Danil "donk" Kryshkovets both had wonderful tournaments and put up respective 1.33 and 1.32 ratings across the event, which propelled the team to an unlikely title and the $22,000 grand prize.

The second finalists GamerLegion didn't lose a single map on their way to the grand final, making light work of Tricked, GODSENT, and Apeks with respective 2-0 victories. The team has had a successful 2023, winning Thunderpick Bitcoin Series 2 and traversing the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 Europe RMR Closed Qualifier B with a 3-0 record but fell at the final hurdle in CCT West Europe Series 1.

The first map of the grand final was very one-sided, GamerLegion dominating their map pick of Inferno with a 16-3 victory made possible by a 13-2 terrorist half. Next up was Nuke, and GamerLegion once again looked a cut above their opponents as they raced to a 9-1 lead on their CT side. Their dominant start faded, and Spirit Academy won an incredible thirteen rounds in a row to win the map 16-13 and push the series to a third map.

Mirage was the decider, and Spirit Academy got off to a hot 7-4 start before GamerLegion brought back the deficit to just one round as they moved into their offense. The scoreline remained close, but it was the Russian squad that reached match point first and eventually closed it out with a 16-13 victory to secure their biggest title to date.

Don't matter, adjust around it. Again I got no problem with S1ren I think he's great, but Donk is legit. S1ren is realistically the player you kick for another rifler. Patsi and Magixx obviously aren't getting the boot and Chopper is important as IGL. I just think when you got someone this talented you gotta run with it

It’s the same thing over and over again. When patsi had 1.5 rating in tier 10 everyone was screaming omg +patsi now he has 0.8 t side rating for spirit and is 1.0 player on ct side. Spirit has a lot of problems rn a change could help but would change their whole structure If you remove siren who’s gonna b b anchor? Donk? Their best ct a player magixx? Chopper? If donk was willing to do anchoring on b site ok. But if that’s the best for using his talent.. I don’t know, could help him adapt to t1 but could completely ruin him and his confidence as well. Chopper is current igl if they don’t think on changing him removing him doesn’t make sense. Only if patsi gets igl with donk baiting him, ok. But I doubt it. Patsi is currently really bad. But he’s also extremely young and a big talent. Removing him only because donk is also a young talent? Idk. Rather let them be a team together and get a t1 igl for spirit academy they’ll turn into gambit youngsters 2.0

If they promote donk to main team, it may take time to settle him into the roster unless they decide to bench Patsi who's been very underwhelming at the beginning of the year. Magixx has improved and I hope he'll keep it up moving forward. s1ren is a godlike anchor but can be inconsistent at times. They gotta figure out how to use w0nderful, though. I think he's being wasted on this team as he doesn't have that much space to work with and most of the time he covers up his teammates. I mean being passive is fine but I'm of the opinion he should be taking more initiative on both T and CT side. Chopper is a hit and miss in a sense that I've never liked his way of calling but he seems like a good mentor for the young guys and I doubt he'll lose his spot any time soon as there's not many options on the market. They could try to make Patsi an IGL as he did fairly-well back in TSA but i guess it's not gonna happen.

To be fair Patsi had highs and lows and I still strongly believe losing Degster has hurt his rating a lot. Yes his form was never going to maintain that insane level, but they use wonderful as a passive AWPer where Degster was a hybrid with more tendencies to get aggressive and open up rounds. Without that aggressive AWP there's a lot of pressure on Patsi to open and make crazy plays and you can tell sometimes hes tilted and he wants to brute force plays resulting in him feeding. I don't think he should be kicked at all though, he just needs more experience and to grow as a player. You may be right, tbh Idk who I would make the anchor that would be more of an internal decision since idk who would be comfortable/best for it. Maybe the solution will eventually be move Patsi to IGL (If he's okay with that transition) and bring donk in to replace Chopper. My biggest fear is another org will come and take donk and/or Artfrost before Spirit even give them a chance on the main roster.

They’re all that young i doubt that they’ll run away. Spirit can give them new contracts with options to get into the main team in some years, higher salaries etc. But if they want out too early I see spirit selling the whole team to a new org tbh
