Valve formally announced Counter-Strike 2 on Wednesday, with the next installment of the franchise set to be released in the summer of 2023.

Valve sent the Counter-Strike world into a frenzy on Wednesday when it officially announced the new installment in the franchise, Counter-Strike 2, which is due to be fully released in the summer of 2023, while a limited test is currently live for selected players.

Some of the new features of the upcoming shooter are redesigned smoke grenades, reworked maps — including Overpass, which has received a complete overhaul — and changes to the servers' tick rates, to name just a few.

The reaction to the announcement was overwhelmingly positive, with Counter-Strike's official reveal tweet receiving over 300,000 likes in just 19 hours. Sure enough, many members of the Counter-Strike community were also quick to voice their excitement toward the news, some of which have been documented below.

A handful of people were also fortunate enough to fly to Seattle, Washington, in order to play Counter-Strike 2 ahead of its reveal, with those with an exclusive insight also offering their thoughts.

Others were a part of the first tranche of people selected to play the game in its limited test phase, with said individuals taking to social media to share their initial thoughts and in-game clips after just a few hours' worth of play time.

the nade thing where u can see where it lands will be huge for competitive play. as it will speed up teams abilities to get line ups. so when new maps come out there will be mad lineups within days. the new smokes and he nade thing pretty cool an interesting way to counter a smoke. now we will see HE nades prioritised alot more. i can imagine some really creative ways to use it and some really mad highlights coming in the future. do smokes still counter mollies? if so. is the smoke still the same or is it smaller or any different? the look of the new mollies undecided on. if it has solved the issues of vision depending on where you are. also has the "1 way" smoke been eliminated by these new smokes? tickrate smoothing, great idea if it works as will make hit reg better. overall seems like they did the right thing. took some risks to improve parts of the game that need tweaking, added a new polish to the game, made the hitreg better and didnt destroy what makes CS great. excited to play it once the beta has finished.
