Americas RMR Day 1: As it happened

This was a live updated post with the latest happenings from day one of the Americas Major qualifiers.

Flamengo upset MIBR, Fluxo edge past yur to conclude day one
06:21 - Nohte

The final matches of round one came to a close with MIBR falling in double overtime to Paquetá, the second upset result of the tournament after Evil Geniuses took down Imperial earlier in the day. Fluxo also went the distance versus yur, but prevented any extra rounds as they secured a 16-13 win to head into the 1-0 pool.

EG defeat Imperial 16-12
05:08 - Nohte

Evil Geniuses have cast Imperial down to the 0-1 elimination pool in Monterrey following a 16-12 victory on Inferno. The North American side arrived at the event on short notice as a replacement for DETONATE and have had rumors swirling about the impending addition of Ismail "refrezh" Ali to their roster, but are playing the event with Jadan "HexT" Postma.

EG took down Imperial to go up 1-0 in Monterrey

The team moves into the 1-0 pool after their win over Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's side, and will next take on FURIA in a best-of-one on Friday.

We have action!
23:45 - Professeur

After more than an hour and a half of delays, a match has finally started at the Americas RMR with Liquid taking an early lead over 00NATION.

The FURIA - TeamOne game has not yet kicked off, with the stream currently simply stating "coming up" for the game.

Meanwhile, get a peek at the vibe at the venue through our timelapse below:

Ten-minute countdown started!
23:23 - Professeur

The streams have finally gone live and the start of the event seems imminent, as a 10-minute countdown is shown.

Power issues delay start of Americas RMR
22:55 - Professeur

Issues at the venue relating to the power supply have been the cause of the delays, which see the event already fall an hour behind schedule. According to Dust2.us, this is not an isolated incident as the hotel which serves as the venue has been experiencing power issues for the past few days.

While we await further news about starting time, you can check out the first photos from Mexico here.

Delays to start the day
22:10 - Professeur

Ten minutes have passed since the scheduled start of the initial matches, but the official streams are still offline. Here is to hoping we don't have a repeat of the initial day of the Asia RMR, where just one map was played due to server issues.

Starting with the big dogs
21:51 - Professeur

Liquid and FURIA will be among the first teams entering the servers in Monterrey, Mexico, where the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR will take place, facing 00NATION and TeamOne, respectively. The favorites will be hoping to start with an early win and march towards qualification without any hiccups, as with just five out of 16 teams able to advance to Paris, an early defeat could spell disaster.

Before the matches start, learn three things about every team at the event and see the opening matches in our preview article below.

Mexico is not a third-world country lmao, and considering NA was not an option because of visa issues, where else would they have hosted it? and the last multiple majors Asia RMRs weren't even in Asia, just makes it harder for all of the players to get there

Blast employees are working for EU RMR already. They just don't have the capacity to host 3 different tournaments in 3 different continents. Asia RMR and Americas RMR are hosted completely by different organizers, it's pretty much only Blast graphics for these 2 events.

Nah, Asia and Americas RMRs are being hosted by other organizers under Blast contract. Only EU RMRs are completely done by Blast. Americas by Liga Ace: liquipedia.net/counterstrike/BLAST/Major.. Asia by MESA: liquipedia.net/counterstrike/BLAST/Major.. And both having big problems today while EU isnt

100% yes their fault not having enough people to host as well
2023-04-06 23:18

Nobody knows if someone is the right person or not lol. They just tell them this is what it is please execute and they pay them. And this decision is made via reputation. The EU RMR, for example has 0 lag or any technical problems. Why? Cause Blast was directly responsible for it. But the Asia and NA RMRs were outsourced to people who were probably the best as this stuff in Mongolia and Mexico. But while they are the best, they just may be good for local, small scale tournaments- not for a global tournament like this one.

It is probably way cheaper to do it in Mexico instead of Europe. They are probably looking for ways to spend less money because at the start of the year Valve said that they wouldnt pay for coaches expenses.

This is unacceptable. I never argue/compain when problems like these happening, but the way this is happening on every 15-30 min some delays is fucking unacceptable. Mexico ; Monterrey is great country ; city - this shitshow sure won't show us real image for this country ; city. It was supposed to be great event but someone fucked up very well because being brainless You must be mentally retarded if you know that you have power issues last 3 days and still you trying to run this event having that problems without any solve before.
