NAVI versus FaZe headlines BLAST Paris Major Europe RMR round three

Day two of the RMR in Denmark begins on Friday, where the first teams to earn berths to the Major and be eliminated entirely will be decided.

The first day of the BLAST.tv Paris Major Europe RMR A has concluded, with the stage now set for the third round of play at the Major qualifier in Copenhagen, Denmark on Friday.

There will be eight matches played out throughout the course of the day, four of which will be best-of-one tussles in the 1-1 pool. The remaining brawls will all be best-of-three features, with two teams posting flawless RMR runs to earn berths to the Major in Paris while a further two squads will be eliminated from the RMR altogether by the end of the day.

NAVI can keep their Major-attending streak alive with a win versus FaZe

The most tantalizing matchup of the day is undoubtedly a PGL Antwerp Major grand final rematch between FaZe and Natus Vincere. The two teams, who are the highest-rated sides at the 16-team LAN, ensured they finished day one atop the standings with unblemished 2-0 records, even if the Ukrainian-majority roster were forced into a grueling double-overtime battle by Into the Breach.

The two titans will cross paths thanks to their Bucholtz Score in the Swiss system, which takes into account previous results when scheduling teams' future matchups. Natus Vincere picked up wins over Into the Breach and Falcons en route to their 2-0 start, with FaZe taking down OG and then Apeks to go on and sport a 2-0 record of their own.

Whoever wins the expectedly tense best-of-three will earn a Legends Stage spot at the Major in France, whilst the loser will head down to the 2-1 pool and need to try again to progress.

Elsewhere, B8 will lock horns with fnatic in a bid to secure their own BLAST.tv Paris Major Legends Stage berth. The Ukrainian quintet have looked solid in their two games thus far, in stark contrast to fnatic, whose wins in Denmark have been relatively hard-fought despite facing lesser competition.

Conversely, OG and Sprout will be desperate to stave off a last-place exit from the Regional Major Ranking tournament. The two rosters have had less-than-ideal showings thus far in Denmark, and now face SAW and Viperio, respectively, in a bid to keep their Paris Major dreams alive.

The remaining four games will all be best-of-one fixtures of the 1-1 bracket; Virtus.pro will take on Into the Breach in their 1-1 affair, whilst MOUZ will look to rebound following their opening round upset to B8 with a game against Falcons.

Be sure to check out our dedicated HLTV Major page here, where there are team profiles for all the rosters at the three RMRs, as well as information about the upcoming Major in Paris, France.

Yeah, top seeded 2-0 team vs botttom seeded. Makes perfect sense. Also B8 has beaten VP and mouz. The number one and two seeds in this group.

Seeding makes perfect sense. Faze crashed out of Rio, they should have poor seed. Fnatic lost to major winners, while Navi lost to some random BR team that didn’t even make finals. So Fnatic higher seed.

This is what makes majors special. Seeding based on past major and RMR. Every other event gives top teams easy passes, but in the major cycles it actually matter if you fucked up at the last one.

Given that Valve now has its own ranking and that few top orgs will miss major in group B, I wouldn't be surprised if they change seeding for next major.

Maybe, I hope not. Unless you somehow count Big as a top org, there is enough room for all in Group B. But some will fail of course. Just like G2 and Faze in last major cycle. This is a good thing in my mind. Why do we want top orgs to get free passes all the time? Let them compete for it like everyone else.

I am all for everyone to go through open/closed qualifiers. However seeding should represent current level of teams and there are many changes since last major.

But the ranking gives partner teams of ESL/Blast free passes to higher rank, since they are invited to most events. While not always being actually better teams. Navi almost lot to ITB, VP lost to B8 and ITB. Not sure why ppl are obsessed with the names of the teams that qualify instead of the teams that actually performed. If ITB beats the reigning champs, they show that they can perform. But ppl still act like VP deserve to go though while ITB would be a “wasted” spot. This shows in all the threads about group B being better. We can see now that some of the teams in A that was said to have a free slot for being in A, are struggling hard. I don’t want the major to be just another ESL Cologne with just the top teams fighting it out once again. Every major always have some kind of upset or Cinderella story, this is very rare in other events.

As you can see from my flair I love Cinderella stories. And I would be happy for B8 or ITB to make it to their first major. All I want to change is slightly better initial seeding which would give top teams slight advantage but not much as you can see with VP and Mouz. You still need to get 3 wins and Buchholz will help to make matchup more fair halfway. Btw with Mouz and VP struggling, Group A looks even worse now

Is it worse, or better? Maybe the teams ppl assumed to be pushovers based on team names are actually much better than anyone thought?

No it's because they based it on the last major rather than recent results, causing the same problem they were trying to avoid by creating the RMR system in the first place.

I just hate Major seeding sometimes. The seeding was based on the last Major result so fnatic and Sprout are seeded higher than FaZe as FaZe bombed out 0-3. Is that just a laugh or what?

It's funny when people always come to complain about seeding since we get matchups like this without understanding how it all works. You can either base it on last Major performance or according to current rankings like that of HLTv , we know both are worse so one doesn't actually improve over the other. Besides , everyone is always ready to ignore the fact that top seeds are not taking advantage of what's being given to them and instead dropping games to teams they shouldn't be . If the underdog is doing well , let them have at it. #9 is right , no seeding is perfect but this can easily be made sense of.

Should have let the higher seeded team (Navi over B8) choose which team to play against (Faze or Fnatic which is higher seeded), they would definitely choose Fnatic lol

great matchups honestly but my fantasy is trashed because of this now, I could have had 4 players qualify for next stage and get free padding points if faze and navi didn't face each other, I believe this is also true for most other people as most would have 2 faze and 2 navi players in their teams, this makes the race to top 1 all the more interesting.
