Two top-five matchups set for first round BLAST Paris Major Legends Stage

HEROIC take on FaZe and G2 face Vitality in a blockbuster opening round.

With the conclusion of the Challengers Stage, the sixteen teams that will do battle in the Legends Stage of the BLAST Paris Major are now confirmed. As such the initial best-of-ones for the stage have been announced, with a couple of mouth-watering prospects on the horizon.

The most exciting matchup to look forward to is the one that will take place between FaZe and HEROIC and 14:30 on Saturday.

FaZe will have the chance to avenge their BLAST Fall Final defeat to Heroic

HEROIC may very well find themselves as the outright favorite to go on and secure the Major title, and the HLTV writers’ power ranking had them pegged as the No. 1 team. They also secured second place at IEM Rio and IEM Katowice so far this year, making them the most consistent elite squad to this point.

FaZe by contrast have been struggling to hit the heights of the beginning of 2022, but by taking the trophy at ESL Pro League they have proven they have the capability of, at least for an event, finding their peak level.

Elsewhere in the first round G2 will take on Vitality, a game which pitches the best team of the start of the year with the team that won the most recent elite international event. G2 ended last year in blistering form and they carried that through to the first event of 2023, sweeping IEM Katowice with little resistance. Since then the form have wavered though, and they come into the Legends Stage apparently some way short of their peak.

As for Vitality, they seem to have hit form at exactly the right time with their IEM Rio victory, and they will be hoping this is enough to give them the edge over G2. Getting their superstar AWPer Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut to show what he is capable of will be absolutely key in making it happen.

Ninjas in Pyjamas vs fnatic also deserves a mention as a historical rivalry in CS:GO that will now play out in a different context, considering neither team is predominantly Swedish any longer. Still, one of the Swedish old guard in the form of Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson will be taking on some of the younger names in Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin and Fredrik "REZ" Sterner, so some semblance of the clashing of Swedish titans still holds true.

Because ITB were the third team to qualify for the major in rmr A lol. Vitality were the last legends team from rmr B. Idk why you’re surprised

There were only 3 legends spots for RMR B, so vitality was also the third team to qualify. They were "last" because RMR A has 4 spots for legends. But still same place, both 3rd.

ITB was in tougher group ON PAPER, so they have better seed even both team were #3.

The fuck dude? ITB was on the group with 4 spots, this already makes it 100% easier. Vitality had to go through astralis, nip, 9nine, g2 and monte, 5 matchups , two of them 3-1 matchups for deciders, while ITB got navi, sprout, VP and b8

I'm not saying that the group was harder, I'm saying that the group was harder per official rulebook. Because there were 4 legends spots, there were also first team in ranking in that group. And because of that, the group was harder. I'm not saying that group A was actually harder or ITB that had harder path. I'm just saying what official rulebook says. And official rulebook considers RMR A harder than RMR B, thus 3rd team of RMR A have better seeding than 3rd team of RMR B.

Vitality won the last Legends spot from RMR B (3-1 Swiss then won against the other teams with 3-1): hltv.org/events/6978/blasttv-paris-major.. while ITB was the best 3-1 team from RMR A: hltv.org/events/6977/blasttv-paris-major..

Nope, the best 3-1 team was Monte, that is why Vitality had to face G2 and then Monte to secure that Legends spot. Check the deciders from the RMR B page.

Vitality beat both g2 and monte to qualify for legends, while g2 and monte had to go to challengers, obviously they were the best 3-1 team, since they qualified to legends and the others didn't. Both ended on 3rd place on both rmrs

I was talking before the deciders. Monte was considered the best 3-1 team so they only would have had to win one match (and they didn't) to secure that Legends spot. While Vitality and G2 would have had to win 2 matches (the second against Monte, which Vitality did in the end) for that spot. So yes, in the end Vitality were the best 3-1 team AFTER the deciders (and won the Legends spot) but BEFORE the deciders Monte was "considered" as the best 3-1 team. Does it make sense now?
2023-05-11 21:15

This hardly matters, what matters is the final results. I don't see why both 3rd places on both RMR's would have different seedings. The shenenigans for the deciders only happened because RMR B only had 3 legend spots, while A had 4.

Rmr A #1 is seeded #1 rmr B #1 is seeded #2 rmr A #2 is 3, rmr B #2 is #4, rmr A #3 is 5 rmr b #3 is #6 (if there were only EU teams) Do you see the logic now? RMR A had advantage as it was seen as a better one, hence having one More Legend spot Edit: so because Heroic was the worst 3-0 team in rmr B (#2) it is seeded as #4 here

With bo3 it'd last 2 more days, and it already takes over 2 weeks. I feel like bo1 is another type of exercise which has its own merits, you have to be absolutely on point on 2 to 3 maps. Besides with the modern format it's not like bo1 could get you eliminated. In old majors you could get kicked after 2 bo1s, that was disastrous.

First Major of 2020, which was cancelled in the end, was supposed to last one more week, so it would be possible to play full BO3 Swiss. But because of lobbying by ESL and BLAST, who created duopoly, Valve shortened Major back to 2 weeks.

True, it's not that much either; but that's not the main problem to me. Having to play up to 5 bo3 until just for reaching playoffs is a lot. As a spectator I especially have that feeling that there are already so many maps to watch, read about, ... And finally I don't think bo1s are such an issue as long as they don't directly eliminate or qualify. Like, good teams should be good in bo1 too. All of that is a purely personal opinion, and I totally get it that some (maybe most) would rather have only bo3s.

Teams could play 2 Bo3s in rounds 4 and 5 to keep number of days the same like they do in other events with lower bracket finals. Also fewer teams would play 4 or 5 Bo3s but even then it is similar to EPL.

Heroic is the most consistent in making 2nd place and not winning, yes. And thats it, they have a low chance at winning the major, their team lacks star power and fragging power. G2 is in good form now, 3-0 in Challengers stage proves that. Everyone popped off

Ikr, this feels so wrong on many levels for Major Legends stage. First both teams struggle to qualify for any T1 tournaments normally, then they both are lucky to meet each other in 1st round on Legends stage as well. Still watching ITB is at least entertaining, they are very hyped rn.
