After stepping away from competition in January, Hampus "⁠hampus⁠" Poser is gearing up for a return.

Update 23:15 : NIP to assess long-term vision in off-season, COO says

"I am very happy to see hampus back after taking some time off for himself. Esports keeps getting more intense as the years go by, and I have the utmost respect for people taking the time to recalibrate themselves to that environment," NIP COO Jonas "calc" Gundersen has told HLTV in a comment.

"Having him back obviously puts us in a position with a deep pool of players available both on and off the bench, so we'll take our time to assess our long term vision properly in the off-season, and make sure we're positioned the best way possible to make an impact in CS2."

hampus is eyeing a return to competition this summer, HLTV.org has learned. The 24-year-old has been sitting on the sidelines for the past four months due to unspecified health reasons.

Samy Bessi from SUPP, the agency that represents hampus, confirmed to HLTV.org that the Swede is indeed "more than ready to come back" but did not wish to comment on whether hampus would return to the Ninjas in Pyjamas roster or try to join another team.

hampus took a break from competition in late January and was replaced on the Ninjas in Pyjamas roster by Kristian "⁠k0nfig⁠" Wienecke in the team's third lineup change in four months.

At the time of the announcement Ninjas in Pyjamas stated that hampus would "take the rest of the spring season off" but did not specify whether the former in-game leader would make a return to the squad once he has recovered.

A representative from Ninjas in Pyjamas did not reply to a request for comment in time for the publication of the article.

Issue is I do not think k0nfig can be removed without making the entire team emo and putting NiP's pistol win% in the absolute hellpit again If hampus comes back, and I hope he does, it must be for either a) Aleksi depending on whether hampus wants to IGL, in which case NiP goes back to trash T sides, or b) in place of Brollan/REZ in which case NiP will lose a 'superstar', which will cost NiP either branding because REZ has been such a longstanding member or money since they wasted like 600k on Brollan

hltv has 0 competition really. pretty sure dust2.us is owned by hltv so they own like the 2 most relevant csgo sites as all the big journalist/writers in csgo outside MIRAA have gone private/stopped writing often/retired. If that bum Professor can get into a Major Analyst desk ahead of ynk and they host that Spunj show with guests at majors and shit they are in such a strong position they are kinda untouchable even if the news week is a bit slow sometimes. unless some new website can like get Thorin, RL, bring back DeKay or a roster leaks guy, and somehow bring back OG By the Numbers from the dead there is no site that can begin to compete with hltv coverage. I mean doesnt csgo client link directly to hltv matchpages these days with the little esports thing they added?

hahaha yeah he certainly mustve made a deal with BLAST i reckon, but he was also on other events like Kato too right? not bad for someone who isnt really part of the scene. by now we can agree its inherently connected to the talent/casting selections. i get it, sometimes you want to have the fans favorites, but it usually comes down to boot licking and returning favors. i am certain there is still plenty room in this market, especially when CS2 will go live. you would assume Richard and Duncan would have the network to set this up, but maybe they prefer to stand on the sidelines in this era. on the other hand, platforms like this have all become focused on revenues, so "news" like this is just another way of generating revenues. And you cant really blame anyone for that in this era we live in.

Thorin has this new Last Free Nation (LOL and csgo, but i dont watch the league stuff often) company which basically does all his CSGO podcasts (sadly tho BTN is finished even the Semmler one) and some watchalongs tho RL rarely appears on that channel. RL has his substack now which has been amazing as the article rate is way higher compared to when he worked at dexerto and other platforms, and I really enjoy his breakdown streams (tho takes a long time to upload to youtube because it gets insta demonetized and he has to argue with youtube for a couple weeks). They still exist its just that they are on their own separate platforms these days. Compared to hltv who has all the stats/matches while they release all these articles and such from the like 5+ writers they got. I dont enjoy HLTV Confirmed but them being (kinda) in bed with ESL and blast hosting these live shows, and being the biggest fish in the pond of csgo they get all the pro players and talent to join the shows. I mean even SPUNJ has become spineless these days with the ESL cash hes getting. These pro players dont get asked any hard questions just easy soft balls (remember device from astralis on HLTV confirmed getting asked nothing relevant which would just never happen on a RL/Thorin interview). Hard to compete when the average fan just cares about seeing the pro players and the big names rather than what RL/Thorin would give us.

yeah i follow their channels, but tbh its so hard to stay focused on these podcasts and shows when theyre over 3 hours. personally, i love to do other things at the same time and tbh i never understood why they feel the need to have those lengthy episodes, other than ad revenues. I reckon these productions really should run for many seasons to grow a solid viewership imo. SPUNJ was on life support for sure until he signed his big deal with ESL. on one hand he deserves it cuz he is kind of the flavor of the bunch, but he certainly sold his soul for that. we spoke about the coverage several times, and i agree on your take. most fans are just too shallow to be able to recognize and appreciate journalism. thats why i still believe there is room in this market for most likely the seasoned csgo/esports enjoyer.

personally I like the long podcasts. Sometimes I got them in the background and do other stuff on the side, but these days the main way I consume esports content is through them and watching some csgo games so I like it. I think SPUNJ was always entertaining he just kinda lost his edge these days. Not in the sense of being like 'edgy' and making those types of jokes rather his personality has toned down and its just clear hes a ESL shill. tho somehow still like 2-10x more charismatic than his 2 cohosts

Hampus said he was tired of IGLing and that Aleksi was a good caller. They actually played good when the had no awper, so maybe they need to try changing konfig or brollan because they have the same role. Yes, you can check my flair, but when hampus was calling their terror was shit, now you can see that the problem is CT sided, and that's because of the lack of chemistry or consistency. I see Brollan making good plays defending, but also taking bad positions and decisions all the time. I know that aleksi doesn't get good stats and whiff some easy shots sometimes, but changing all the team roles and waste hampus talent again on the IGL role is just dumb.

Be it as it may I'd love to see +hampus -k0nfig simply because hampus was a fine 2nd caller, and a more solid and smarter option than k0nfig, even though I like the dane as well. Also this is just my personal take but did you watch nip vs apeks in both maps ct side at the major? k0nfig went completely missing, didn't do anything he usually does. In ancient he was just sitting passively in red corner until the T's cleared him. Many many times. If that's not a choke I don't know what is.

Im pretty sure not but I might remember wrong though. I instead would like to see -brollan +hampus. Konfig also brings good mood to team and especially headtrick seems to be much better after Konfig joined (could be just coincidence as well) Skillwise I dont see big difference between Brollan and Konfig. Also I agree that Konfig had bad map against Apex in Vertigo. But in Ancient Konfig had better rating than Brollan (or Rez) on CT-side. I remember he died so many times as a T though on Ancient while sitting in the red

Reasoning: -K0nfig, he is hype & headtricks father - would hurt team chemestry a lot. -REZ.., NIP would never kick REZ lol -Headtrick = And Hampus/REZ back to awp? ..NO! -Brollan might be possible but unlikely Meanwhile, Hampus is a 100% direct replacement for Aleksi, he is a better player and IMO a better caller in the current meta. IMO there is no place for hampus in the main roster right now unless NIP wants to -aleksib and hampus want to IGL. I don't really see that happening though as NIP are finally starting to recover from going international and I don't think they are unhappy with Aleksi as IGL. NIP has ZTR ok loan so maybe they will do that kind of thing with hampus as well? No need to replace k0nfig or brollan with hampus since he is not a clear upgrade.

hampus got a lot of shit (as do most players) and maybe he was feeling the pressure as IGL but he was clearly still feeling that after he gave up that role. We will probably get an explanation from him to why he needed a break, he always seems to be so open about stuff like that during interviews. As you said; NIP was actually doing good with hampus as IGL considering the players they had until they decided to go international and aleksi joined as IGL. After that they have struggled for some time but in the last month they have showed good progress - I hope they stick with this roster for at least the rest of the year.

A roster that I'd like to see and could actually work: AleksiB - IGL headtr1ck - AWP hampus - Lurker/2nd IGL k0nfig - Entry es3tag - Support/2nd AWP k0nfig and es3tag could bring morale and mental way up when they struggle on a map or if they lose the first of a bo3. Wouldn't be practical though since NiP is based in Stockholm. NiP has always based itself around its Swedish identity, even if its only 2 as of now. I don't think they spoke Swedish with Allu yet they still were Swedish in identity. Also REZ has kind of become the face of NiP now since hes been there so long. He is the bridge between old NiP and modern NiP, thus they probably don't want to get rid of him and lose out on marketing. Brollan has potential, but I see the criticisms as valid, though K0nfig is old so he could be the better choice for their future.

I think it would be very unwise to kick k0nfig for hampus since NIP are improving day by day with this lineup. If they take hampus in again they will have to start over since he hasn't played competitively since January. And if they do, what role would hampus take on? Replace Aleksib as IGL? This is a very tough situation for them and I hope they will make the right decision to keep the current lineup. Sure, Brollan and k0nfig has some clashing with their roles but I really don't think Brollan will improve even if he gets the chance instead of k0nfig. He has been bad for a while now, sadly. REZ is not in a great place either.
