The Danish head coach leaves the post after ten months.

Daniel "⁠Vorborg⁠" Vorborg has announced he has been benched by Evil Geniuses due to the organization's shift in direction. The Dane emphasized his drive and motivation to continue coaching and stated that he loves his work and that he wants to prove himself again.

The 31-year-old was a part of Evil Geniuses for ten months, during which he played a big part in the organization's unorthodox Blueprint project, having replaced Damien "⁠maLeK⁠" Marcel in the head coach role in August.

Vorborg departs the roster due to the organization going in a different direction

During his time on the team, the Dane oversaw several roster changes that ultimately failed to result in an upturn in performance. He joined alongside Sanzhar "⁠neaLaN⁠" Iskhakov and Jadan "⁠HexT⁠" Postma as the team went through a rebuild during the summer break. That iteration of the roster failed to improve on the previous, with their biggest achievement an appearance at the IEM Rio Major 2022 Challengers Stage, where they recorded a solitary victory against IHC.

Evil Geniuses started 2023 by removing Tsvetelin "⁠CeRq⁠" Dimitrov and promoting Jerric "⁠wiz⁠" Jiang in his stead, and the team got off to a flyer in the new season by beating HEROIC at BLAST Premier Spring Groups, prompting Vorborg to declare that the future is bright for Evil Geniuses.

Vorborg: "This will be the best season EG has shown in a while"

Their early season upset failed to transition to an upturn in results, however, as the team collected several last-place finishes and missed out on a spot at the Paris Major. The team then brought in Ismail "⁠refrezh⁠" Ali to try and improve their fortunes, prompting the organization into a change of direction after the Dane's signing failed to work out.

While the organization hasn't specified what their change in direction is, a report by Dust2.us states that the organization intends to promote their EG Black roster to the main squad in time for BLAST Fall Groups.

well, he was great for them... while his run with EG hasn't gone exactly how he planned, i admire his bravery to try and save them. i think he could be a good match for astralis as he seems to inhibit effective man management skills, which i think would be useful to them.

The team didn't achieve anything before him either. Plus he's most likely been hamstrung by the utter shite management at EG the entire time and also look at the absolute bums he has had to work with. vorborg getting benched at EG says enough about his added value to the teams efforts: negligible. sure, EG wants to focus on the NA lineup, but if he was worth his money, they wouldve kept him 100%. dont know who's genuinely hyping up this guy, seems like another paycheckstealer to me. EG didnt improve much over the time Vorborg was coach. Bubzkji linked him with Astralis on Twitter, but tbh i just dont see that as a valueble signing.
