Spirit announce new roster with academy trio including donk

The three youngsters join chopper and magixx in the starting five.

Spirit, whose meteoric rise in 2022 at the PGL Major in Antwerp was one of the most memorable of the recent past, has started a new chapter with a major revamp to the team's core after a slow start to 2023.

Following the departure of Robert "⁠Patsi⁠" Isyanov to Liquid and the benching of Pavel "⁠S1ren⁠" Ogloblin and Ihor "⁠w0nderful⁠" Zhdanov, the Serbia-based organization will now field three academy players in its A team: Danil "⁠donk⁠" Kryshkovets, Artem "⁠ArtFr0st⁠" Kharitonov and Myroslav "⁠zont1x⁠" Plakhotia.

The trio powered Spirit Academy to two WePlay Academy League runners up finishes as well as an impressive first place at CCT West Europe Series 1, where they beat the likes of BIG, GamerLegion, Falcons, and Into the Breach along the way.

One for the future: donk

donk, in particular, will be one to watch as he makes his professional debut at the tender age of 16. The youngster steps up to the first team with a career 1.17 rating from his time in the academy, establishing him as one of the world's budding stars.

"When we assembled the new Team Spirit roster, it was impossible to overlook the young players who achieved impressive results last season," Sergey "⁠hally⁠" Shavaev stated regarding the three newcomers.

"During the tests, they showed maturity and initiative, and we needed more voices in-game — that's why they are in the main roster now. The most interesting thing is ahead of us: to make the team work as a single unit."

And Mir is still back… getting multiple opportunities for solid teams despite big breaks because of the impact he had on spirit under chopper years ago. We all know how good SDY has been for Monte, even was good enough to play for Na’Vi for a while. Degster and Patsi both peaked under Chopper and went to a semi final of a major. Magixx is still around and has been fairly consistent in tier 2-tier 1. Not everyone can be a star, developing reliable role players is still impressive. Even S1ren played pretty well considering he would always play the harder positions. People still talk highly of w0nderful despite him being super passive and frustrating to watch at times. You can say Chopper failed with him if you want, but we really don’t know if it was Choppers fault. IDISBALANCE is the only other guy and honestly played great when he was on Spirit, he was the 2nd best stats only behind Mir and only got kicked because they brought in Degster (which was obviously the right move as they went to major semi’s). So yeah Chopper has a pretty solid track record?
