Ex Heroic performance coach becomes new Astralis Sports Director

Kasper Straube Hansen has taken over the job left vacant in Astralis after the departure of Kasper Hvidt.

Astralis has appointed Kasper Straube Hansen its new Sports Director. The position was previously held by Kasper Hvidt until late June, when the two sides parted ways after a six-year cooperation citing disappointing results.

Astralis part ways with Kasper Hvidt, HUNDEN

The Danish organization originally announced on June 30 that Straube would take up the role on October 1 due to his employment in HEROIC, but he has since left the previous job and started the new one at Astralis early, according to a Friday release.

Astralis' appointment of a new Sports Director comes after a series of changes in and around the CS:GO team, which began with the departures of Kasper Hvidt and Head Analyst Nicolai "⁠HUNDEN⁠" Petersen. Astralis later announced the benching of long-time in-game leader Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander and the signings of Victor "⁠Staehr⁠" Staehr and Johannes "⁠b0RUP⁠" Borup to the lineup.

Kasper Straube Hansen comes from a background in physiotherapy and performance management. He joined HEROIC in 2021 and began regularly traveling to tournaments with the Danish CS:GO team as their physiotherapist and performance coach. In November 2022 he transitioned into a newly established position in the organization as the Head of Performance.

"I come with some clear thoughts about building and running a healthy performance culture, but I also have great respect for the context I step into and the footsteps I have to fill," Straube said in a statement on Astralis' website.

"I am delighted that a very important role is now occupied by a profile with both experience, knowledge and humility towards the task, as well as an obvious ability to elevate performance and results," Astralis CEO Anders Hørsholt stated.
