OG will be fighting for a spot at the Cathedral of Counter-Strike

FORZE will miss the IEM Cologne Play-in, ESL has announced. The Russian team will have to sit out one of the biggest tournaments on the calendar due to visa issues.

OG has been called up to replace FORZE at the IEM Cologne prelude as per the German tournament organizer's rulebook, which states that the next highest-ranked team in the ESL World Ranking is to be given the spot.

The international squad has just undergone a major revamp. In-game leader Nemanja "⁠nexa⁠" Isaković returned to the active lineup after nearly half a year on the sidelines, while only Maciej "⁠F1KU⁠" Miklas survived the off-season roster changes which saw Nils "⁠k1to⁠" Gruhne, Dion "⁠FASHR⁠" Derksen and Iulian "⁠regali⁠" Harjău join the team.

OG will get to warm up with its new team at the BLAST Premier Fall Groups on July 13-23 before flying to Germany for their run at the IEM Cologne Play-in starting on July 26.

But how is OG next highest ranked team after adding 3 new players? Partner team rankings are so fling flawed its insane.... Also why do they get the spot with a new core but BIG had to field an academy player for mantuu to keep the same core that qualified?

Big came in through ESL Meisterschaft, Forze/OG qualified through ranking So whilst your point about ESL ranking being bs is quite valid I dont really thing you can compare the BIG situation to that, since its just a completely different path to qualifying

yes but how is OG ranked that high after not doing good in ages AND changing their core? this is what makes me wonder. Part about invites and ranking is true ofc but the ranking seems to be nothing but awful lol

In order for it to make sense, you have to think of it as ESL inviting the new OG as a collection of players. ESL's rather dumb system has the points belong to the players not to the team: pro.eslgaming.com/worldranking/csgo/team.. Thus k1to and FASHR bring a lot of points with them, while nexa returning from the bench contributes almost nothing.

bro, it's kinda broken, but that's it. BIG continued with the vacancy, why doesn't ESL take it away after distributing it, it could be a whole new roster, BIG would hold the vacancy. and OG despite 2 new players, both had good ESL scores, and when they leave the team, they take 1/5 of those points with them. that's the reason. in fact, it is likely that without FASHR and K1to OG would not even be invited

It’s not the same situation as HLTV, if 3-5 players leave team they all have own points, and by adding each one from diff teams leads 2 combine points of itch player. Example (HLTV): Team A Before Changes (500pt): - Player A (100pt) - Player B (100pt) - Player C (100pt) - Player D (100pt) - Player E (100pt) After Changes (0pt): - Player A (0pt) - Player B (0pt) - Player F (0pt) - Player G (0pt) - Player H (0pt) Because replace 3 or more players. Also cut-off for ESL invites is usually based on most recent played roster, so it might well be the original OG roster that gave them the points.
