NAVI qualify for BLAST Fall Final over G2

Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen's side have been cast down to the Fall Showdown.

s1mple was in his usual superstar form to power NAVI to victory

Natus Vincere are through to the BLAST Fall Final after sneaking a pair of 16-14 victories past G2 on Inferno and Mirage, superb impact from Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev across the series and strong calling from Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen giving the new team the edge they needed to qualify for the LAN event in the Royal Arena.

"I'm so proud of each of our players," s1mple said after the victory. "We actually practiced 24/7, we had no days off because we knew that everything changed, three new players, so it's nice that we got good results for our new team. We managed to play close against Heroic, we got a lot of experience, and now we beat G2. Now people see that NAVI can be in the top 10 teams at the beginning of a new roster."

On the cameras, s1mple was often seen glancing across to Justinas "jL" Lekavicius and Mihai "iM" Ivan after rounds and being quite vocal. When asked what he was saying to motivate them and what input he was having, s1mple laughed. "Sometimes I'm saying don't do stupid mistakes," he said with a smile on his face. "Usually when we don't do it, we just smash opponents, especially on the T side, and that happened today as well when we were leading 5-0 and there were some shaky situations.

"I'm just telling them let's keep it up, you should ask my team, the whole team is cheering everyone up." James "BanKs" Banks then asked s1mple if he feels like it's a very positive environment despite what people are saying from the outside, and s1mple once again had a smile on his face: "Yeah, yeah, if I'm not going to be toxic, it's going to be AWESOME [laughs]."

G2, conversely, find themselves cast down to the Fall Showdown after a rather miserable campaign through the group stage. Being one of the few teams that chose not to make changes during the off-season, they had an inherent advantage with no need to redefine themselves and their structure lasting through the break, but they faltered to Liquid and FaZe in their group, and only barely scraped past Evil Geniuses in the Knockout Stage in a series that the North American side had in their hands.

Nikola "NiKo" Kovač was upfront about his disappointment regarding the result after the end of the series, giving NAVI credit for their results but admitting that G2 didn't play up to their own standards. "We just played really bad the whole tournament," he said, "we just didn't step up when it mattered, in the crucial rounds, it was chaotic in TeamSpeak, decisions were made poorly as well and that cost us the game.

NiKo was transparent about his disappointment in G2's results

"There's no excuse, I don't know what to say. Just embarrassing results this event, losing to FaZe, Liquid, and NAVI, but mostly to Liquid and NAVI, it's just very embarrassing. Especially in a way where we're more experienced together, we should be closing out these games. There are just no excuses, we played really bad and we need to recollect our thoughts and fight for IEM Cologne."

s1mple was firing on all cylinders from the series' onset, helping his team make up for a lost pistol round with a FAMAS quad kill in an ensuing force buy. That win enabled an early 4-1 lead for the newly-formed international composition, but they fumbled a handful of advantageous situations which gave G2 the chance to recover and briefly pull ahead by one round. That lead didn't last, however, and HooXi and company's early spree of rounds was the last they would record for the rest of the half as multi-fragging from Valeriy "b1t" Vakhovskiy and s1mple powered their side to a 10-5 advantage at the break.

Another triple kill from the GOAT granted NAVI a win in the second pistol round, but they ended up on the receiving end of the treatment they'd given G2 in the first half — a force-buy from the reigning IEM Katowice champions upset the odds swapped momentum around, from which they won six rounds in a row to even the score at 11-11. A blow-for-blow trade of rounds ended with NAVI coming out on top, allowing them to close in on map point, but it took them until round 30 to convert upon that advantage courtesy of a triple kill from b1t.

NAVI maintained form as their pick of Mirage got underway, jumping out to a 5-0 lead before G2 recovered on the CT side. Superlative performances from NiKo and Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač powered their team to a narrow 8-7 recovery at the end of the half, and they further extended that lead to 11-7 before NAVI had guns in their hands.

From that point, though, Aleksib's men assumed firm control, excellent multi-fragging from the team's Ukrainian duo punishing G2 round after round, with s1mple in particular having immense impact to bring his side back into the game, 15-12. In identical fashion to the first map, it took until the last moments of the map for NAVI to close things out, but they did so in dominant fashion as huNter- was left in a 1vs5, managing to gun down two players before their Fall Final hopes were completely crushed.

I’m not sure if it’s his movement or what but he would consistently die to pistols / ecos and seemed easy to kill in gun rounds throughout the entire event. The team qualified even with his poor showing so that’s a very positive sign.

that's a really good point I agree, for EG to have taken a map off of G2, and for G2 to win in OT on map 3 - it's worrying no hate on EG, but they're not really in the same league as everyone else. so for them to have almost won? nuts

EG have completely new lineup tho. And they only underperformed against the major winners in their first official. G2 are still dangerous and only narrowly missed out

Clearly the calling is shit. Hooxi hasn’t ever proven it outside of a single tournament win. Besides that fluke, his best result was top 8 at a major. He has all these players and yet they barely beat EG with a fucking NiKo hard carry. Yes, players underperformed but G2 is a team that should have much better coordination (among other things) where a match with EG isn’t lost only because NiKo hard carried.

Aleksib got the same shit from the viewers when he was there. Niko has now played with Karrigan, nexa, gob b, aleksib, hooxi, hell he even called at some point. The problem is in the players. Not in the calling anymore.

Under karrigan they did quite well till he tilt kicked him after the major (different team anyways, so not that noteworthy to compare with todays G2 lineup, same with him being under gob b). Nexa isn’t that great of an igl, yet he’s most likely to had NiKo listen to him the most since their both Bosnian. They also performed more consistently when they had jackz and amanek. AleksiB had jackz instead of Jks, as well a brand new m0nesy awping t1 for the first time, yet has gotten better results than Hooxi. By no means does this void criticism from aleksi, but the over-exaggeration was nuts, especially since he had better stats than Hooxi does. Hooxi can call for 3 other people on the team even if NiKo does whatever the fuck he wants and doesn’t listen (which is doubtful, but he does seem difficult to work with). Yes, G2 has issues more than just the igl, but Hooxi ain’t off the chopping block of criticism. Besides one fluke run, Hooxi hasn’t done much with the team. He has easily the most talented line up G2 has had in the past few years yet also displaying some of the weakest results. With these caliber of players they shouldn’t be struggling against EG and have to be hard carried by NiKo. To reiterate, G2 has more issues than simply the igl but at the same time , Hooxi has the least excuses going for him and is by far the worst performing IGL individually that G2 has had.

haahhahaa you have to be a finnish fakeflagger with this copium take holy shit. We just saw how NIP went from being absolute dogshit with aleksiB to beating Vitality, what's the excuse there? I swear aleksiBot fans have more mental gymnastic takes then brazilian fallen fans, only difference being Fallen actually won relevant shit back in the day whereas AleksiB have a mickey mouse bo1 blast trophy and a tier2 SI-league from 5 years ago

i really am german and not finnish, dont even really like aleksib. first of all NIP lost to coL and almost to EG as well. vitality win was a fluke. aleksib almost got playoffs with NIP at last ever CSGO major that was pretty much the most competetive ever, with a noname roster. and again with hooxi g2 didnt even qualify to rio major so then they finally kicked XTQZZZ. aleksib also went katowice final first tourney with g2, he had better results with XTQZZZ than hooxi (not really gigachad in the server). we dont know what wouldve happened with swani but the evidence suggests aleksib would have been better. also aleksib was popping with a bunch of finnish nonamers in 2019 which is very notable. we shall see his true potential with navi

Yes let's only consider the non deciding first matchups and ignore NIP beating vitality in the deciding and most important matchup. With that in mind we should only focus on navi getting dumpstered by heroic in the first match and barely scraping by Astralis? Don't know why you'd think the last major was the most competitive, seemed like lots of teams were way worse than what they used to be like faze and navi specifically and G2 also struggling a lot (Faze barely qualified. C9 straight up didnt qualify as well as G2) AleksiB had better results in what way? What trophy did he bring home? Hooxi in the short stint with G2 have won more and bigger trophies than AleksiB has in his entire career. "Evidence suggest aleksiB would have been better", you literally have provided no evidence? In fact you came up with a false statement saying aleksiB got better results with G2 (by not winning fucking anything lmfao). Oh and Hooxi played only 2 tourneys with Xqtzzz EPL s16 where they reached SF and blast world fall finals reaching QF, that was certainly not "much worse" than what aleksiB had achieved with the same coach. AleksiB's achievements with ENCE in 2019 is currently as relevant as Fallens achievements in 2017.

Now here is the thing, in my opinion G2 should have looked like a top5 team coming out of the player break, and they only showed flashes of it, with NiKo doing most of the heavy lifting for this first tournament. You compare G2s performance here with a team in a similar situation as them not making any changes in the player break being heroic (i get they are #1 so kinda unfair) but regardless I think G2 should have shown an overall better game.

Prob would have crashed out of every tournament last.Siuhy has the Hooxi type of achievments and is unexperianced

What? He led both Academy Mouz and Gamer Legion. He has proven he's a great player and IGL. This bot Hoxi can't even aim

Exactly. This is not good enough for tier 1.He has proven nothing so far(Had one great tier 1 tournament out of 1).We dont know how he will perform and if he fails at MOUZ then he can always come back to tier 2

Like I said last time, they had a good chance to beat heroic, now they played even better and beat G2. Also aleksi is not at fault, never was at G2 and never was at NIP, especially not NIP, the org is pure chaos with player changes nonstop. Anyways, gg PS. aleksi mastermind diff huge

Aleksib is showing the definition of "not giving up" and "maintaining dignity". This IGL must be remembered. I hope he wins the best IGL of the year.

He might do it if he wins at least one tournament but there are very few left. Otherwise it should go to apex. And I am saying that while being a Na'Vi supporter.

Closer than expected after G2 against EG but I guess this NaVi is a really new team. Nice to see b1t back on point.

I can definitely see Aleksi succeed with this roster if s1mple's on the same page. They've got two players that are new to the t1 scene and a young but experienced player in b1t, all willing to learn. Plus one of the best coaches behind them. It might be easier for Aleksi to get his ideas cross with this fresh roster, compared to a NiKo or hunter set in their ways

Simple looks really on side with Aleksi, he was very invested in pauses and often shouting "nice Aleksi".

"It was chaotic in TeamSpeak, the decisions were also made badly and that cost us the game" Niko clearly accuses Hooxi and I as a spectator think the same, the IGL is like 100% of the stacks, it doesn't give one, it doesn't have an impact, it doesn't decide well, it doesn't give the level at all.
