Entire Rare Atom lineup departs organization

The current best team in China is without an organization.

The best team in China is up for grabs

Rare Atom have announced that their entire lineup, including the coach, have not renewed their contracts, making them free agents. All six members of the team had been with Rare Atom for over a year.

The departing lineup began representing the organization back in January 2022, when ViCi rebranded as Rare Atom. WeiJie "zhokiNg" Zhong and ZhiHong "aumaN" Liu were quickly replaced with Jingxiang "Mercury" Wang and Qianhao "Moseyuh" Chen, whereupon the five was consistent for the rest of their time with Rare Atom.

During the lineup’s tenure they were consistently the best team hailing from China, and they won a raft of regional events like ESL Challenger Leagues and Perfect World Premier Leagues. The squad also achieved a respectable top-four finish at ESL Challenger Valencia in one of their few international outings, but failed to qualify for a Major in three attempts.

According to a post made on Chinese social media platform Weibo by coach Xielin "k4Mi" Zhu, the lineup is looking to continue playing together and is searching for support ahead of their upcoming participation in ESL Pro League.

The team departing Rare Atom, currently listed as 5yclone on HLTV, features:

China Zhuo "advent" Liang
Malaysia Andrew "kaze" Khong
China Yi "JamYoung" Yang
China Jingxiang "Mercury" Wang
China Qianhao "Moseyuh" Chen

TheMongolz will probably remain orgless and independent for the time being, presumably out of caution due to the IHC controversy. For ex-RA tho, an org definitely should pick them up. Unlike other teams in Asia, they have promise and legitimacy. But keep orgs like TSM and EG away. I'd say the best options right now for them would be for them to be picked up by Invictus, EDG, or FPX. Would be a perfect opportunity to return to CS since they can start with EPL season 18 since the roster automatically gives any team the spot RA had, and the buildup of the future of the CS scene in CS2 has promise and can be enticing.

Also if ex-RA continues their form, they could qualify to the next major so ez sticker money for whatever org picks them up.

I just hope they can be good enough to send Grayhound home. TheMongolz practically have a lock on a spot at majors, just need to prevent Grayhound from making it since Oceania and Asia are unfortunately lumped together in the Asia qualifier, and they're the main reason why there's only usually 1 Asian team at majors.

The real problem is culture and politics. 1. Parenting/schooling in China consider playing anything as a sin. 2. Education encourages extreme nationalism and individualism, making Chinese refuse to learn from the others. 3. And Chinese gamers are even prohibited to share the same server with other country.

i think the biggest reason is still parent think gaming is bad and blame everything on it. Bad mark in exam? Ofc because of video games.Have a fight in school,?gaming causr it. Bad mental health? Play too much game. Literally every problem can be blame on gaming and it is just bad for esport in china.

I hope you got chance to be here to travel and saw whether electricity is supplied 24h. Also welcome you to visit their training center, I thought all of the facilities or hardwares are similar to Europe. The reason China has no super CS team is based on Cultures and Politics. Youth age before the 18 can not attend any formal Esports evnets but global standard is over 16. I am also sad for China CS, but hope it could be better in CS2.

EDG, Invictus, and FPX all got a big opportunity right now, would frankly be high tier levels of stupid if they don't take the initiative to swipe the entire roster since these guys have a spot at EPL season 18 that starts at the end of this month. It's only EPL but having a qualified spot there is not something to shrug off or laugh at.

The team absolutely has value. Really because of one single reason: They have a spot at EPL which begins at the end of this month. It's basically an ATK/M80 situation. Org suddenly drops the roster, another esports org takes notice and then makes the move to enter CS by swiping a core from the original roster and instantly qualifying for this season of EPL. It's only EPL but it's still a tier 1 tournament, and having a spot at EPL is not a laughing matter or something one should shrug off. Only in this case, any CN org can just swipe the entire roster. Don't need to fix anything for the time being.

Yeah, but I think being one of the best Chinese teams also brings value to the team as well. They also for example participate in all of China's big events as well: liquipedia.net/counterstrike/Perfect_Wor..

ye ofc but EPL qualification is the biggest asset they have right now, it's a big tier 1 tournament and an international tournament. Something that Asian teams have barely been able to attend until very recently. And for the tourney you linked, they may decide to skip this in favor of EPL.

You are probably correct on the skipping part. When TYLOO did that in the past though, they were invited back to a future tournament. But yes, large international events are king.

I mean Mongolz are pretty legit right now, but yeah Rare Atom are far from the BnTeT Tyloo days. Asia/Oceania scene is really dead these days. OCE havent had a real star since dexter left, and outside Mongolia creating a decent team outta nowhere China/Korea is just dead. I am happy for those MVP PK guys doing well in valorant tho.

I'll never understand why XigN chose to remain tho when he could be living the life in VALORANT along with the rest of the former MVP PK right now. I respect him for choosing to remain but I'll never understand why he chose to do so. And Chinese CS isn't completely dead. Lynn Vision and now ex-RA seem to have some promise.

Hey this can be seen as a good thing. We could see the entry of T1, SKT, or other super massive chinese/Asian org come in and scoop up the team, and give them the assistance they need to actually participate in more tier 1 tournaments. Same could happen with themongolz too. I would love to see some of these huge Asian orgs that have never given CS a chance to come in now. Both top Asian teams are orgless.

I mean true, the Asia scene in Valo is massive compared to CS. But the reason is investment. If a big org came to CS, more orgs would come to compete against them, and then players would come from valo to CS. Same can be said about NA. The only reason NA CS is dead is because all the remaining good players are in Valo, getting paid kings ransoms by super massive orgs. If just a few more orgs like M80 come along, NA players would come back, and NA CS would be back to life. Same could happen for Asia I don't doubt it.

And whats the incentive for these big orgs to invest decently into cs? No scene, no national leagues, no support from valve/tos... simply a waste of money. No smart org is joining asia/na cs scene Valve has to make the first step and take the "risk" because no org is going to take the risk for them obviously

Perfect world is having a big LAN tournament in September, the biggest Asian LAN for CS to date that wasn't run by ESL. Perfect World is the company that runs CS in China. Besides the fact it seems like the 2nd major of 2024 is going to be in China too. There's a few insentives that Valve want to tap into the Chinese market, and now would be a great time to enter in cheaply. I can imagine a few orgs will join and make small investments to try and make it to the Chinese major. There's still around 16~ months before that major would start.

you mean PWA season 5? Ye that'd be a good time, could maybe have new teams replace Lynn Vision and ex-RA since that LAN unfortunately conflicts with EPL season 18 and I think both teams may prioritize EPL. And unless Valve changes some shit to make it that more Asian rosters could qualify to the Chinese major, it's just going to be TheMongolz and laughably Grayhound again.

To be fair though, major spots are awarded by placement. If an Asian team made it to the legends stage, they'd get a 3rd spot. If a team made playoffs, theyd get a legends spot. It's based on performances. Sadly that system wasn't around when renegades were actually good, which would've given Asia a 3rd spot in the next major as well as an automatic legends spot but that's rectified now, and if a team ever got a good run into the playoffs, then they'd get a legends spot. If both Asian teams managed to make it to legends, they'd have 4 spots in the next major. That's why the Americas lost a spot, only 3 teams made it to the legends stage, they would've kept their legends spot too thanks to liquids run but... Liquid brought that legends spot to Europe when they transitioned to international. So now Americas have no legends spot as well as 1 less spot in the major. Which stinks for them. If none of the teams made it to legends though, they'd also only be given 2 spots in the next major. Which would be a travesty.

It's the best time for EDG to get the trio jamyoung mercury and moseyuh. I hope they make advent their coach and not a player.

One major problem with that tho is that there aren't really alot of Asian IGLs out there. And it might be a bad idea to make a roster change right now when ex-RA have been playing together for quite a long while without roster changes, would likely break current synergy.

It'll likely be fine, I don't think there isnt an org considering picking the roster up since they have a qualified spot at EPL. it's only EPL but it's not something to laugh at or shrug off since its still a tier 1 tournament.

China like the rest of Asia and the world in general, has an IGL problem. There's just not enough popping out. In recent times, the only breakout IGLs we've had are kyxsan and siuhy.

i guess we will never see RA stickers on Major after all good luck to this lineup, they have potential to surpass even Mongolz when it comes down to it but they couldnt ever express it fully when it mattered the most. Hopefully they can ink in a contract before EPL!

"they had quite a few chances but again , failed to capitalize on them." What I'm trying to say is they gave it all they have and used everything they could but they kept losing cause they simply weren't(they're doomed they should retire on the spot) good enough

In Chinese, names are commonly written as [last name - normally 1 character] [first name - normally 2 characters]. It's always interesting to see how English news outlets deal with this, with most sticking to the conventional Chinese format, anyone from HLTV able to enlighten me on why this doesn't seem to be the case here? Is it to keep the almost iconic format of [first name] [IGN + profile link] [last name] that HLTV uses in seemingly all articles?

ITS JOEVER. WTF RARE ATOM, I TRUSTED YA'LL, I KNOW WE CHOKED BACK TO BACK ASIA RMRS BUT COME ON GUYS WTFFFFFFF. On the other hand, free asian major team contender to pickup for EDG / RNG / NewBee / FPX. Literal top 1 asian awper with crazy riflers for FREE. HELL i'd even take fucking BILIBILI GAMING at this point...

pretty sure Valve permanently banned Newbee in everything Valve related after the Dota2 match fixing gibberish they decided to do 2 years ago. Even if they're still able to compete in CS, it's over for Newbee regardless since I dont think they can even function anymore due to Perfect World also banning them. And ye, this would be a great time for any high profile Chinese esport org to pick them up. Would be a decent start in their entrance (or decent return to CS) since the roster has a spot at EPL that's to start at the end of August. P.S, hey EDG, Invictus, or FPX, you'd be stupid af if you dont at least try giving them a chance, it may be EPL but having a spot at EPL is not something to shrug off or laugh at :v

oh I wasn't aware of the NewBee incident, but always knew they were around the CN esports scene for league/dota at some point or another. EPL spot = guaranteed stonks for any fucking org out there. especially with ex-RA lineup usually pulling off an upset here and there and not embarassing themselves (like EG for example). I really hope to see one of the big CN orgs out there giving themselves a chance to reinvent themselves in preparation for CS2 incoming which would definitely be the best way to start.

Im gonna assume that talks are currently happening, just give it another 2 weeks at least or so. It'd be stupid as fuck if orgs like the three I mentioned (IG, EDG, and FPX) or others like RNG don't consider entering or re-entering CS with this roster since a free spot at EPL is no laughing matter or something to shrug off since it's still a tier 1 tournament. It's basically an M80 situation: ATK suddenly drops their roster, another org (in this case M80) sees the opportunity and swiped a core from ex-ATK to enter the CS scene. A chinese org can do the same for ex-RA, but can decide to swipe the entire roster in one go.

this gotta be the heist of the year for the WHOLE roster to be free for ANY cn org out there..... CS scene so HUMONGOUS in china it would be a literal crime to not pick these dudes up for FREE.

like I said, there's probably at least some talks going on out there. Just might take a while. If ex-RA didn't qualify for EPL, they probably wouldn't even be considered. But because they did, there's now an asset to offer since many orgs in CS would likely kill to get a spot in EPL since (despite the partnership garbage), there's a decent amount of spots available and RA just happened to snipe one of them. Would be a great opportunity to take the whole roster (the coach stated that they want to stick together, at least according to the article) in for EPL alone and then work from there.

This team isn't strong enough to compete in tier 2 CS unless they replace advent someday.Remaining advent in their roster make it possible to be even worse than new RARE ATOM featuring expro sombody cy1/attacker according to some rumor.

I mean, where are they even gonna find an IGL replacement for advent. Asia like the rest of the world has an IGL problem, there's just not alot out there. Or really any new ones popping up. All we have for breakout IGLs are kyxsan and especially siuhy from the Paris major.

Truth. But I do insist that firepower is the way quite more important than tactics.Like old tyloo and the mongolz, they just play some defaults and some simple&effective tactics, making chaos and then leave everything to aiming.

i will not be surprised if another big asian team disbands cuz there is just not much support from valve or any other big tournament i mean just look at their spots only 1 team will qualify from such a big region we are talking about whole asia middle, south, east, with chinese, even east part of russia play at asian qualifiers and only 1 team will qualify ,meanwhile aussises always get 2 spot no matter what result is crazy to me
