The European squad will defend their title in Abu Dhabi between December 13-17.

BLAST World Final 2022 was the first title won by G2 under HooXi

G2 became the fourth qualified team for BLAST Premier World Final 2023 after accumulating enough points in the BLAST Premier World Leaderboard 2023 thanks to their victory at IEM Cologne. The European mix will travel to Abu Dhabi to compete between December 13-17, and will fight for the crown jewel in BLAST's circuit and the lion's share of a $1,000,000 prize pool.

Rasmus "⁠HooXi⁠" Nielsen and company led his team to victory at the previous iteration of the tournament, sweeping Liquid in the final to secure the organization's first big event trophy since DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017. The win last year started a renaissance for the team, who have since added two elite-level trophies to their cabinet taken from IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne.

G2 will join FaZe, Vitality, and HEROIC on the list of teams attending the tournament. The winners of ESL Pro League Season 18 and BLAST Fall Finals will also be invited to the Abu Dhabi event, leaving the last two available spots for teams high up in the organizer's leaderboard.

BLAST initially intended for the second Major of the year to provide one of the qualifying spots, but Valve's decision to only hold one Major in 2023 led the Danish organizers to decide the last team based on their leaderboard ranking.

G2 essentially "secured" this spot at the time they paid the money when establishing the BLAST circuit... What were the chances they wouldn't get the slot when the circuit has naturally weaker members like EG etc, haha. So let's rephrase this news item, OK? "A bunch of orgs who shelled out big bucks for slots in the least open / most-closed franchise circuit out there. Among those teams, logically the weakest (EG, etc) don't make it to the end-of-season big LAN closed event and the rest (like G2) do. Circuit organizer pretends to make the event higher-status / more-open by taking into account IEM wins, but to no avail, really (because the points still skew heavily towards closed BLAST stuff). At this closed event, folks like BlameF and teams like OG will farm HLTV stats that will maintain their top-20 player / top-20 team ranking spots, devaluing the meaning of HLTV stats further.
