1WIN, knasigT complete IEM Sydney Europe closed qualifier team list

The closed qualifier, which offers two IEM Sydney berths, will go live on August 23-25.

1WIN will fight in the closed qualifier for one of two IEM Sydney spots

The IEM Sydney Europe closed qualifier team list is set after 1win and knasigT triumphed in the region's second open qualifier, defeating Zen and ThunderFlash, respectively, to nab the two final berths up for grabs.

1win and knasigT — a team featuring former Young Ninjas rifler Oliver "debo" Hallel and Aleksandar "jayzaR" Zarkovic and Victor "virree" Bäckström previously of 9INE — join BetBoom and Victory Zigzag in securing closed qualifier spots through the two European open qualifiers, while Apeks, 9INE, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and OG all received direct invites from the tournament organizer.

1win's path to a spot in the closed qualifier was relatively straightforward, with the Russians enjoying a Ro16 bye after Eternal Fire forfeited the match due to a scheduling conflict with the Thunderpick World Championship Europe Series 1. From there, Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov and company dispatched of Anonymo before comfortably taking down Zen in a quick two-map series to take one step closer to a place at IEM Sydney.

knasigT, on the other hand, were the surprise package of the event. The Swedes failed to make it past the Round of 256 in the first open qualifier, but turned it up a notch this time around as they waltzed into the second day of play with ease, their only test being during an overtime win over FURIA.

From there, the Swedish side edged out SHAPITO, eliminated the rumored 00NATION lineup featuring Florian "syrsoN" Rische and Jon "JDC" de Castro and playing under the QM tag, before prevailing over ThunderFlash in a comfortable two-map hammering to secure their participation in the IEM Sydney closed qualifier.

On the flip side, several high-profile names faltered in the open qualifier and will subsequently have to watch IEM Sydney from the sidelines. Zen went on an eyebrow-raising run to eliminate Sprout and Movistar Riders from contention before falling at the final hurdle. Meanwhile Virtus.pro, who recently earned a $100,000 payday after winning the CCT Online Finals 2, were humbled after being sent packing in the quarter-finals following a 12-16 loss to ThunderFlash.

I can't believe this random swedish mix actually made it to the closed qualifier :DDDD Also, did anyone even remotely have BetBoom and/or 1Win be the ruski team(s) to qualify? :v

Remember Cringe Gods at Colombus 2016 Minor? Similar story, completely random mix that made it to Minor. It started careers for REZ, draken and doplan.

man those brackets are fucked. idk what happened, but like 1 side was a VP choke + randoms and the other side had EF, Movi, Spirit, 1win lol.

I guess the issue here is the amount of teams, there is no other way to pick one team out of 255 others other than using random.org and making them play bo1s till 4 teams left

I mean if I remember correctly in the past faceit would usually seed the good teams and then randomize the rest (like if you had some hltv ranking points or something you get something, but if you are a random mix/no names you get nothing).

Teams probably were seeded initially but as many favourites failed, the bracket stayed unchanged.

Are you really implying that EF is a good team? Or movi? Spirit seems to have the hype of bashing low tier teams failing, 1win decent I guess. Hard to have higher ranked teams when they fail to even make the RO16.

Compared to the teams on the other bracket. Eyeballers? random mixes? French Mix was alright, but thats about it.

But the on paper “better” teams already lost to these randoms. The seeding is done when the bracket is set. You don’t reseed after every round. So if a high seed loses, then the winner gets to enjoy their path to the final. It’s like the major all over, ppl seem to prefer team names they recognize over teams that actually played well. It’s so strange to me. Furia, VP and TSM are all on the “easy” side of the bracket. The are all probably better than the teams you listed, and still didn’t make it. Just give the “randoms” some respect for being better and deserving their spots.

Everything is relative. Compared to G2 and Heroic they're quite weak team, but compared to my MM team they are insane

And compaired to VP, Furia and TSM, they are equal or worse. And all those teams got knocked out by the randoms. Ppl are so obsessed with the team names, not the actual performance of the teams.

How can we be sure these teams aren't cheating somehow? They wipe out tier 1 at online open qualifiers but then proceed to go 0-2 at the main event on LAN/stage Genuine question btw
