ZywOo woke up in the grand final to edge ahead in the MVP race

Mathieu "⁠ZywOo⁠" Herbaut has been crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of Gamers8 2023 by HLTV and 1xBet after he led the way in Vitality's grand final victory over ENCE.

The MVP race was tight coming into the grand final with Guy "⁠NertZ⁠" Iluz, Paweł "⁠dycha⁠" Dycha, Álvaro "⁠SunPayus⁠" García, and ZywOo all in contention for the accolade.

The Frenchman came out ahead in the end, though, thanks in part to NertZ and dycha's performance dropping off in the title decider, SunPayus not standing out quite enough in his team, and ZywOo performing exceptionally in the grand final.

The single-elimination bracket means that the statistics leaderboard for the event is a little misleading as some players sit atop categories only having played two or three maps, but even so, ZywOo managed to stand out in some notable spots.

He had the highest K-D Differential (+55) and total opening kills (55), second-highest KAST (78.5%), and was third overall for event rating with a 1.26. He also tied SunPayus for the least deaths per round (0.55) despite Vitality playing the most number of maps in the event (10), tied for the third-highest opening kills per round (0.15), and had the fourth-highest impact rating (1.30).

When filtering for teams who played four or more maps, ZywOo ended up the best in a handful of the above categories, including KAST, opening kills, and impact.

G2 didn't make it past the semis. It was a small sample size. Had Niko made it to the finals and performed the same I'd absolutely agree with you, but he didn't. Not his fault, obviously. As for Zywoo, he seemed less impressive because he always opened cold, but would ramp up in the series. The thing is, playing into the games is better than opening strong then disappearing. Zywoo deserves an MVP because, in the end, he was a big reason Vitality got to the final and then won it.

I dont agree that that is more important. Niko for example didn't end cold and start hot he was amazing until the end but lost game. However, sun and nertz for example played well through out as well but zywoo got it cuz he did well in the end.

You can disagree that it's not important, but in the context of the games played it was. Vitality don't beat G2 without Zywoo absolutely obliterating them on CT side of Mirage. He went 20-9 on the CT side against them in the deciding map, and that was the final half of the series. There's a lot of reasons why your opinion is misplaced. Notice I'm not saying wrong, because you're entitled to the opinion, but the MVP is reserved for someone who is the strongest reason for a team's success over a tournament. Vitality don't win the semis or final without Zywoo, and frankly speaking Nertz and Sunpayus had full team efforts in every match excluding the final, and Niko went out before the finals, so all 3 of them have reasons why they aren't standouts in the end. None of them did what Zywoo did, which is to go 1.12 on a 16-7 loss, and then turn that into a 1.35 followed by a 1.56 to win the next two maps of the final.

Lmao MVPs on losing team were exceedingly rare back then before s1mple prime and Zywoo rookie year. You need to be roughly 2 standard deviations above 2nd in MVP race + not disappear in the finals which is extremely hard to do without winning the finals itself. Synpyous have brought us some wonderful moments for sure, but it's a T E A M game. Yes, I know Zon1c wasn't there, but there's a REASON WHY Zywoo is /was doing great. The "Vitastrality" project was a "winning concept" despite a rough start out of the gates. Zon1c, Mag1sk (and dupreeh) wanted and needed a STRONG awp'er and an IGL just as brilliant as Gla1ve. Zywoo and Apex fits VERY WELL, right? They tried out a few different "5th player", but Spinx was the chosen one for a reason. Now dupreeh - THE most winning cs go player of all time - was replaced by flameZ. WHO would ever be able to replace dupreeh ... HE actually IS the RIGHT choice by Zon1c! We're of course NOT talking about a new "Vitastrality" era: The top 50 players of the world will ALWAYS be able to beat each other. But: Zywoo --- with THIS team around him, is of course close to being the STRONGEST individual player around. TLDR: Zywoo is an umimaginably great individual player, but wouldn't be able to do what he does without this current lineup.

Sunpayus solidified himself this year, what a player, it just annoyed me to see all the people smack talking zywoo and jinxing the ZywOo/sunpayus rivalry! Also, ZywOo was used to play 1v9 with the full French vita lineup but, as you underlined, they didn't win much ,achieve much, because at the end of the day, yes, cs is a team game but sometimes, in a deciding last map it takes the outstanding performance of an individual to win it all, reminded me of magisk mirage.

Where ZywOo continues to play catch-up is the sore lack of cultural impact via trademark playstyle. Jame is known for hyper-passivity, s1mple's screen-shattering flicks, ropz's calculated angle clears, Niko's precise first bullet, even Pasha's clunky movement is more memorable.

Are you kidding ? ZywOo's trademark is his brain, obviously. The man calculates everything on the spot, he's gotta be like 90% right. He literally plays chess on CS, reads every situation like a book, knows the timings of every single situation, which is also the reason why he places himself like he has walls. Complaining about ZywOo not having a " trademark playstyle" just demonstrates you want the game to be played a certain way you'd prefer. He has one.

Here's an interesting set of statistics: Zywoo had the tied lowest DPR with Sunpayus, 0.55, while getting the most opening kills of the tournament (39), while also only posting 69 AWP kills to Sunpayus's 112. In fact, 127 of his kills were not from the AWP, so nearly 2/3 were something other than AWP, contrasting Sunpayus's 112 AWP kills and 73 other weapon kills (almost the exact opposite of Zywoo in this regard). To put it into perspective, Sunpayus achieved that DPR stat by being a very good AWP. Zywoo achieved it while only getting 1/3 of his kills with the AWP, having the most total opening kills and the highest impact rating of the tournament. That's pretty nuts. To further that, if you exclude the opening wins and the final two maps of the tournament, by all his standards, Zywoo played relatively subpar. Also food for thought is that Zywoo started off every series poorly (excluding the first), and progressively got better on a map-to-map basis.

I think the G2 game was a good indicator of zywoo not stressing too much because he has a reliable team. On mirage as soon as the map went to OT, zywoo just switched on and destroyed g2 in 4 rounds.

I hope it's a bait :D 4 maps with insane rating, top1 material: 1.56, 1.35, 1.50, 1.58 2 maps with very good rating, the ones you would expect for a top player: 1.26, 1.21 2 maps with good rating: 1.12, 1.12 2 maps with flat rating (which is very unsual for him): 1.00, 0.98 All in all only one map with negative k/d: -1 Also going deeper into the different games Zywoo played, everyone was talking how unsecured he looked, unusually underperforming, talking about him not being very confident, etc ... But in the end he managed to shine bright when he was needed the most. Overtime VS G2 was insane, last map of grand final was insane. So even a bad Zywoo is still the best player of the tournament, we're just too used to seeing him showing a 1.9 rating here and there. But only S1mple can match Zywoo's impact on the server.
