BetBoom claim IEM Sydney berth

Wins over two top-20 sides helped guide BetBoom to qualification for their first elite LAN event.

BetBoom have qualified for their first notable LAN event since the squad was put together a month ago, taking a 2-1 victory over 9INE to secure an IEM Sydney berth.

The Vladislav "⁠nafany⁠" Gorshkov-led lineup had to recover after squandering their own map choice of Ancient (14-16), doing so with convincing wins on Mirage (16-7) and Anubis (16-11).

9INE made a bizarre choice in the veto by selecting Mirage, one of BetBoom’s best maps, over Nuke, a map the Russian side have struggled on. The Poles were punished badly for their mistake, finding themselves utterly outclassed on Mirage, in a series they might have won 2-0 had they vetoed differently.

By taking victory over 9INE, BetBoom completed a strong run to qualification for IEM Sydney, having already taken down Ninjas in Pyjamas and OG earlier in the qualifier. Apeks proved too strong for the Russians in the upper semi-finals, but it was a reasonably close series that illustrated BetBoom’s potential.

Danil "⁠danistzz⁠" Roslyakov (1.16 rating over 12 maps), Pavel "⁠S1ren⁠" Ogloblin (1.20 rating) and Aleksandr "⁠zorte⁠" Zagodyrenko (1.16 rating) were the main carries for BetBoom throughout their run, but Aleksandr "⁠KaiR0N-⁠" Anashkin (1.09 rating) also provided plenty of fragging power.

Having claimed three victories over sides in and around the top 20 during this qualifier, nafany and co. seem destined to be a threatening prospect at IEM Sydney itself.

The team list for IEM Sydney is now nearing completion, with only one spot apiece left to be claimed via the North America and Asia closed qualifiers. The former qualifier is set to finish on August 26, whilst the latter will be concluded shortly.
