THREAT returns to NIP as General Manager

The former coach has been appointed head of NIP's Counter-Strike division.

THREAT returns to continue his story with NIP

Ninjas in Pyjamas have appointed Björn "THREAT" Pers as their Counter-Strike division's new General Manager. The 35-year-old Swede, who played 1.6 with the likes of fnatic and EYEBALLERS, and coached Ninjas in Pyjamas during several stints in Global Offensive, will now head the CS2 division.

Before his appointment, THREAT had tweeted on June 28 that, with the advent of Counter-Strike 2, he was interested in going "all-in given the right team."

THREAT's signing marks another chapter in a storied career with the organization, from working with the legendary Ninjas in Pyjamas players of 2016 to watching over the changing of the guard in 2020.

In his previous stints as a coach, THREAT secured five titles: DreamHack Masters Malmö 2016, StarSeries i-League Season 2, IEM Oakland 2016 and 2017, and IEM Fall 2021 Europe.

The former skipper has already been working with NIP's Director of Esports, Erik Wendel; Director of Performance, Troels Robl; and Head Coach, Daniel "djL" Narancic. So far, however, the organization is not ready to announce what the future holds for NIP's CS teams.

"To be able to come back to NIP and work with all of our CS teams just as we enter a new era in this legendary game is a dream scenario," THREAT said in NIP's announcement. "I look very much forward to what the future brings and I can’t wait to continue the grind."

NIP's CEO, Hicham Chahine, also made a statement regarding the organization's Counter-Strike division. "CS:GO brought Ninjas in Pyjamas back to life about a decade ago, and as we now move into CS2 we are reviewing everything CS at NIP in detail.

"2023 has been a challenging year, and learning from and changing what has not been working is pivotal for us in our search for success in CS2. As a result, we will be revamping our CS division. I am therefore thrilled to have Björn back, this time as the General Manager of CS at NIP to lead everything Counter-Strike as we enter a new CS era."

For those interested in knowing more about THREAT's new role as a GM, he will join a live stream on NIP's Twitch channel at 19:00 on September 28 to share his thoughts on the vision, strategy, and direction of the Swedish organization's CS operation.

Yeah but you can’t fault NIP for that. If dev1ce kept on playing when NIP signed Brollan it would have been insane. For the Faze game in Antwerp for example NIP missed that dev1ce edge to get them over the line.

This means THREAT still reports to Jonas Gundersen (COO) and Chahine (CEO). Will THREAT have real power?

This can be very good for NIP. This also announces that change is surely to come. Threat either steers the ship back to full swedish roster, or goes full international here. There's no reason to be doing this stupid half half like this. This current iteration of NIP failed, its time for threat to build around Headtrick, perhaps pick up some players in the next offseasons free agency, or buy out some players. Either way, bringing in innershine could be a good start, especially if his vision lines up with threats.
