The Slovakian rifler is not in Apeks' future plans and will not have his contract extended when it expires at the end of the year.

Apeks have announced that Martin "⁠STYKO⁠" Styk is no longer in the team's plans. The player was notified upon returning from ESL Pro League, where the international side finished in a lowly 21st-28th place.

The news is somewhat expected as rumors of the Slovakian rifler's future started to make the rounds and were then further fueled when Ådne "⁠sense⁠" Fredriksen was brought in as a stand-in for CCT East Europe Series 2.

In a video on his YouTube channel, STYKO explains that his contract will not be extended at the end of the year and he has been moved to the bench with immediate effect.

The Slovakian has been on Apeks' books since the beginning of 2022 when the organization was restructuring and going international after a spate of Nordic lineups failed to live up to expectations.

Apeks has had a bumpy second half of 2023 after peaking with a semi-final finish at the BLAST.tv Paris Major in May. Following their run at the Major, the team lost Justinas "⁠jL⁠" Lekavicius to Natus Vincere, then parted ways with coach Jakub "⁠kuben⁠" Gurczyński, and have now benched STYKO.

"We are grateful for achieving this dream together with you, Martin. There is no doubt that you will forever be a legendary player in our club, and we wish you the best in whatever comes next."

sense, who has already been standing in for Apeks before today's announcement, will continue to play with the team on a trial basis.

"We want to give younger players a chance to prove themselves at this level, and we are delighted that we can promote a player who has been part of our academy team for years," Kjær adds. "We are confident that he will learn a lot during this period, and perhaps even earn a spot on the team."

Apeks' next match is an ESL Challenger League Season 46 series against The Prodigies on October 5, but more excitingly the team will be at IEM Sydney, the first big CS2 event, where they will open against Natus Vincere on October 16.

Stats isn’t everything. Many really good teamplayers sacrifice tons of personal glory and still make the team win. It depends on what type of player the team needs, how the player is to work with, how adaptive he is etc. Typical star players are usually ego-heavy players that don’t function well in supportive roles long-term. They wouldn’t try him out unless they thought he could adapt to the level or at least deserved a try in a transition to a new game by being a hard worker. I still think STYKO has a lot to offer many teams. He is what most teams need to get to the top 30. Not another star player with «stats»

I think this decision is nonsense. STYKO isn't star player, he Is known to be a support (although he tried to be a star player). His stats aren't great but his gamesense is really good. Even though he don't perform as good as in FPX or Godsent he is still valuable player and can "bring something to the table". I think they should have take someone else instead of sense, but let's give him a try. Hope STYKO will find a new home soon or transfer to be a full time content creator. I'm sad to see him go.

Trash move, honestly there isn't many support like STYKO, this guy is extremely underrated. If it was only for a better player i would just wait but sense is really worlds under the level required for T1 or even T2 and is worlds under STYKO. Then, i hope STYKO pairs up with forsyy, NEOFRAG, MATYS & ZEDKO to finally have a competitive CZ/SK team.
