CS:GO remains available on Steam in frozen build

A CS:GO legacy version will remain even after support for the game is pulled, albeit without matchmaking.

In an update on October 9 that fixed some hitbox alignment issues and a bug regarding refunds in the buy menu, a CS:GO legacy version was added to Steam.

It was previously unclear what would happen to CS:GO, but now it has been made clear that the game will remain available even after support is lifted on January 1, 2024. Steam's FAQ page states a caveat, though, which is that certain functionality relying on compatibility with the Game Coordinator (e.g., access to inventory) may degrade and/or fail.

The legacy version of CS:GO is a frozen build of the game and will retain all of its features except official matchmaking. It can be found under the Betas tab in CS2's properties on Steam.

Some players who cannot play CS2 due to technical reasons, such as macOS users, are eligible for a Prime Status Upgrade refund, which can be claimed until December 1, 2023.

These are the requirements to get a Prime Status Upgrade refund:

DirectX 9 and/or 32-bit Windows users are eligible for a Prime Status Upgrade refund if their purchase was made on Steam between the announcement of the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test (March 22, 2023) and the launch of Counter-Strike 2 (September 27, 2023).

macOS users are eligible for a refund if most of their CS:GO playtime was on macOS and they played CS:GO on a Mac between the announcement of the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test (March 22, 2023) and the launch of Counter-Strike 2 (September 27, 2023), regardless of when they purchased their Prime Status Upgrade.

CD keys, gifts, and accounts with bans are not eligible for a refund.
