electroNic stars as Cloud9 send Lynn Vision home

Cloud9 defeated Lynn Vision in a two-map series to send the Chinese side home from IEM Sydney. The first map of Anubis (13-11) went the distance before a dominant CT side secured the Russian squad a comfortable win on Ancient (13-8).

Denis "⁠electroNic⁠" Sharipov had another fantastic performance since he moved away from the IGL role and put up 125 ADR and a 1.83 rating in the victory. Conversely, Sergey "⁠Ax1Le⁠" Rykhtorov's struggles continued as the 21-year-old finished the match bottom of the board with a 0.87-rated performance.

Abay "⁠HObbit⁠" Khassenov, who took over the IGL role from electroNic, joined the broadcast for a quick interview about his calling style. "I'm adding some of my vision, but we are using our old system," he said. "The game right now is not about the system or strategies, you just need to shoot and feel the game."

Cloud9's win means they live to fight another day in Sydney. Their next test is set to come on Wednesday at 04:30 against Complexity.

The series started on Anubis, and the Egypt-inspired map proved to be a back-and-forth affair. Lynn Vision rushed their way to a 5-1 lead before Cloud9 caught on to their aggressive antics. Ilya "⁠Perfecto⁠" Zalutskiy's 1vs2 stopped the rot for the Russian squad and enabled them to tie up the half at 6-6.

The scrappy nature of the game continued as the sides switched, and Lynn Vision returned to the lead after Dmitry "⁠sh1ro⁠" Sokolov ran out of time in a 1vs1 clutch attempt. It wasn't to be for the Chinese side, though, as they were bested in the final round of regulation, 11-13.

Ancient was a much more one-sided affair, courtesy of Cloud9's dominant CT-side showing. The first half finished 7-5 in favor of the Chinese side, but Cloud9 took over the game in the second half, as Perfecto joined electroNic in the fragging department. The duo powered Cloud9 to an 8-1 CT side and secured a 13-8 victory for their team, who now require two straight wins to make it to the playoffs.
