Complexity eliminate Monte to reach playoffs in Sydney

Complexity's composure in overtime and higher proficiency in gun rounds proved fatal for Monte.

Complexity made it through the lower bracket unscathed and are the final team to secure a spot at the IEM Sydney playoffs. They did so with a victory over Monte, a team they had already beaten on Anubis in the opening round of the tournament. The map was scheduled to be the decider in this series, but was in the end not needed as the majority-NA squad took it in two.

Ricky "⁠floppy⁠" Kemery was one of the surprises of the series as he elevated his game and topped his team’s scoreboard with a 1.35 rating. He had a slow start at IEM Sydney, but had plenty of impact in his team’s two overtime map wins, especially on Ancient where he averaged over 100 damage per round.

Complexity had a shaky start on Overpass, but managed to find their way to five attacking rounds, which proved enough to at least get the map to overtime. That’s when Monte crumbled. Starting on the offense, Viktor "⁠sdy⁠" Orudzhev and company failed to put in a single attacking round and frustration mounted in the European camp.

Jonathan "⁠EliGE⁠" Jablonowski and Johnny "⁠JT⁠" Theodosiou were the ones to convert, winning a 2vs5 situation to secure a 16-13 scoreline and the series lead on their map pick.

Ancient followed a similar pattern and Monte were first out of the gate, running off to a 5-1 lead. Slowly but surely, Complexity found their way back into a 5-7 half. Monte made it four for four in pistol rounds, but still managed to drop the ball as Complexity brought it even after 24 rounds.

JT and his men, with their higher proficiency in gun rounds, once again pulled off an overtime victory, 16-13, to close the map and series out.
