zonic on joining Falcons: "We're here to work as hard as we did in Vitality and Astralis"

Danny "zonic" Sørensen and Mossad "Msdossary" Aldossary, Falcons' coach and CEO, respectively, appeared on the latest episode of HLTV Confirmed to talk about the organization's ambitions.

The Falcons duo joined HLTV Confirmed on Tuesday to discuss the organization's plans for Counter-Strike as it begins the process of overhauling its Counter-Strike team, with several top players reportedly on its radar.

The legendary Danish coach left Vitality for Falcons after contract negotiations between the Dane and the organization stalled following the Paris Major victory, which opened the door for Falcons to secure his signing.

"We won the Major, and then it was time for negotiations. I told Vitality I was really interested in re-signing. I got an initial offer that was below my conditions [at the time] and below my expectations," said zonic. "Vitality encouraged me to look elsewhere, and I had three really good offers in the end. One of them was Vitality, but I decided to go with Falcons because of the responsibility and the ambitions. I got the keys to the whole CS2 division."

zonic helped Vitality secure their home Major

Mossad "Msdossary" Aldossary also chimed in about the signings of zonic and sports psychologist Lars Robl from Vitality, which signaled a new era for their CS team. "People forget we've been in CS for about two years. We always want to do more, and sometimes you need the best people that you can believe in," he said of their new duo.

The new has been marked by Falcons' aggressive strategy when it came to going for the biggest names in the scene. zonic admitted that his new organization enables him to do that but insisted he wants to do things the right way. "Of course, we're going to go aggressive and try to win the Copenhagen Major. If we see an opportunity, we're going to go for it," he began.

"I want to put together a roster that makes sense, and do it the right way. We're here for the long run. I don't want to get a team together for the Copenhagen Major for any price. If the amounts that were reported were true, I would be sitting here with five players, and that is not the case."

One of the signings that fell through was that of Nikola "NiKo" Kovač, who opted to remain in G2. Msdossary shed some light on how negotiations with the Bosnian superstar went. "NiKo approached us first, that he wants to make the move and he's exploring his options. And why not sign him when you get a chance? But we couldn't agree on personal terms in the end." When asked about the size of the buyout, the Falcons CEO said that they "weren't going to pay G2 more than G2 did to get him out of FaZe."

Both guests were adamant that this is a long-term project, with zonic even drawing parallels with his previous teams. "We needed over a year in Astralis and Vitality before we won the Major, and we're here to work as hard as we did in those teams."

"This is a three-year project for zonic," added Msdossary. "We don't want to have any opinions or pressure in the first year. The Falcons project is to have a Major in the next three years."

Despite all the talk, the only official announcement so far was the benching of Falcons' entire roster bar Mohammad "BOROS" Malhas. zonic explained the reasons why he didn't make good on his promise to give every player a fair chance.

"Some of the things I heard gave me a red alarm about the current roster not performing and socially not being there as a team. I had talks with the previous coach and the players, and one player said to me that if we kept the roster as it is, he would bench himself, which is a rough starting point.

"It's not fun because its about player's careers, but I came in to make changes, the thing was just how many. There's a chance to call some of them back if they can't find a home, though," the Danish coach added.

In other parts of the show, the panel touched on the concerns about Falcons' ownership in terms of their connection with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and the organization's history. There was also a discussion about the recent news with the help of Harry "NER0" Richards.

He said he would talk to them and see if they fit in the project, of course they are just tier 3 players at best and a coach like zonic surely can see that.

That's not the point he was making at all. It's that zonic, and Falcons, knew from day one that they were going to cut the majority of the team (if not the whole team) and yet pretended they weren't. Everyone knew this was the reality, but the acted like it wasn't, and it just comes off as bad faith.

Of course they knew it. They've even acknowledged that the current team is a bust, which is a straight admission that they were uninterested in maintaining tenure. There are things known as educated guesses, and I'd argue if you didn't see this coming you were blind.

even if what you're forcing on me here were true, his point was to make a joke at an address of the most successful coach in the history? Yall should stfu and just watch and enjoy the ride, cause none of us here even with all your educated guesses would know what's the better move. But hey make these educated guesses or jokes, Imma keep clowning on dumahh comments :D I guess both parties r gucci then

His point was that they said one thing, and did exactly what everyone said they would (the opposite of what they said). It's not about a joke, it's about just being fucking transparent and believing in the intelligence of your audience. He's not giving Zonic shit for being a bad leader, just that it's stupid how organizations treat their viewers like morons. Obviously the better move is to build a team of proven players, is that really something worth debating? Historically this has proven true repeatedly. You can think my comments are "dumbahh" all you want, but hey, at least I understood what the guy was saying to begin with. Fr fr no cap fam.

Is that your alt you're defending or just a patriotic voice in your consciousness telling you "Imma tell him what he really meant by that comment!" ? idrc what he meant by that dumahh comment.. You, me or your alt/fellow country-men know fukshid what's going on while building such team from the ground-up or why things have changed or didn't go as planned (go ask niko, will ya, and tell me you knew all along too) I know I can think your comments are dumahh, never entirely said so they were, is that one of your educated guesses again?:D let's sum this one up so we can both go our ways: you're right

I'd argue you've been here too long if you think someone defending another user means they have an ALT, but my account's from 2010. Maybe learn how to infer things when you read them? I don't know what to tell you, I'm sorry you have to resort to insults in this discussion. I think pretty much anyone with any semblance of consciousness knew Falcons were going to try to build a superteam, not retain their existing players. I'm not sure why you're so worked up about this... It's almost like implication is the entire point of this conversation to start with. If you didn't think my comments were "dumbahh" why'd you even bother getting so upset about them? This was never about right or wrong, it was about understanding simple conversation. Also, real talk: why the fuck are you afraid to cuss on the internet? I get dumbass might get you banned for being insulting, but fukshid? Are you afraid your mother is looking over your shoulder?

It's hard to be offended by something you deem ridiculous? Again, you can stop trying to insult me or acting smug, it's boring. It's not even fun trolling behavior, especially since I haven't engaged in returning it back. But since you've said it twice now: of course I'm right. You wouldn't behave like this if I wasn't.

"We're here to purchase our way to T1!" Where's the whole bringing up an unproven team bullshit now? I respect Zonic a lot but this shit is disingenuous at best.

Well they haven't gotten anyone apart from magisk yet The point was in both the previous cases he came into a team that already had a structure and a star player (device and zywoo) so he had some bare minimum to work with and build off of. For falcons they don't even have a full roster yet, and I think its unlikely they can get a full t1 roster tbh at this point considering what the CEO said (if you presume what he said was true and that they aren't looking to spend more than g2 or faze did) Even if he does get a superteam, it takes a while for it to show results. Look at how long it took faze to actually build a proper superteam that was extremely dominant.

I don't really have any disagreements with what you've said. You're pretty much correct in your assertions, but my issue is more the tone involving Falcons as being some challenge to mold an unproven team of non-star players into a contender. We now understand that this is much closer in function to a G2 or FaZe approach. You're not incorrect that Zonic's come into 2 lineups that were already at least somewhat successful in Astralis and Vitality, though it's notable that Vitality changed pretty drastically upon his addition. Right now this project feels reminiscent of Vitality, while there's no concrete specifics the agenda remains the same: get excellent players, build a winning team, not start from the bottom and work to the top. As for the FaZe thing, you have to consider that for a long time they simply didn't have superstar players. That initial dominant FaZe roster was them going for broke, but they got about as good a lineup as a team could've hoped for at the time. Pretty much everyone looked at it and knew they'd be really good (though I'd argue not everyone expected how good rain would become during that time). I'd say that's more the expectation here with Falcons, though losing out on some of their superstar picks definitely throws a spanner in the works.
