Cloud9 move on to semi-finals at Royal Arena

No Danish team will be at the Royal Arena fighting for the crown.

Cloud9 are through to the semi-final stage at the BLAST Premier Fall Final after dispatching HEROIC in a two-map series. This leaves FaZe captain Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen as the only Danish player left in the tournament as it enters the last-four stage.

The Russian team left it late to win Nuke, where it met strong resistance from HEROIC in both halves, but it ran all over the Danish outfit on Inferno. After a quiet start to the tournament, Abay "⁠HObbit⁠" Khassenov delivered a strong showing — a huge confidence boost ahead of Saturday's semi-final clash with Vitality. Denis "⁠electroNic⁠" Sharipov put in another man-of-the-match display and is the joint-highest-rated player of the event, together with Mathieu "⁠ZywOo⁠" Herbaut and Lotan "⁠Spinx⁠" Giladi.

The series kicked off on Nuke, where Cloud9 jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a scrappy start to the game. HEROIC didn't let up off the accelerator, however, and immediately put their opponents on the back foot after taking their first round. With Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen leading the charge, HEROIC won five rounds in a row, but Cloud tightened up their defense and won three of the last four rounds of the half, which ended all square.

A 1v2 clutch by Kirill "⁠Boombl4⁠" Mikhailov in the ensuing pistol round prompted a period of dominance from Cloud9, who took a commanding 11-6 lead. Things were looking good rosy for the Russian team, but then Rasmus "⁠Zyphon⁠" Nordfoss came alive for the home side with a series of multi kills, including an ace in the 21st round.

HEROIC eventually tied the score at 11-11 before Cloud9 picked themselves up in the dying stages of the half, securing the map with a 2v5 clutch by HObbit and Ilya "⁠Perfecto⁠" Zalutskiy.

Cloud9 came out firing on all cylinders on Inferno, forcing Casper "⁠cadiaN⁠" Møller to call a timeout at 5-0 to stop the bleeding. HEROIC responded with back-to-back rounds before Cloud9 retook control for a 9-3 half, with HObbit boasting 16 frags to his name.

HEROIC found a lifeline by winning the first two rounds of the second half, but it was too little, too late, as Cloud9 picked up four rounds in a row to claim an emphatic victory.
