PGL unveils RMR Major qualifier locations

Romania, Mexico and China will host the PGL CS2 Copenhagen Major RMRs in February and March.

PGL has unveiled locations for the Regional Major Ranking events, the final qualifying stage ahead of the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen. The tournament organizer has also launched open qualifiers in all regions, for which teams can now register to play.

PGL's home city of Bucharest, Romania will host the 32-team European RMR, split into two Swiss groups and a last-chance bracket, from February 14-24.

The eight-team Asian RMR will follow on February 26-28 and take place in Shanghai, China, and the 16-team Americas RMR will be organized in Monterrey, Mexico, on March 1-4.

Romania Europe RMRs — Bucharest, Romania (February 14-24)
China Asia RMR — Shanghai, China (February 26-28)
Mexico Americas RMR — Monterrey, Mexico (March 1-4)

These three tournaments will determine the 24 teams participating in PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen, taking place on March 17-31. Following their placements at the BLAST.tv Paris Major, Europe will hold 17 spots, Americas five spots, and Asia two spots.

Three-man cores of teams who placed in the top 16 of the BLAST.tv Paris Major will be directly invited to the Regional Major Ranking events. The remainder will come from two-stage online qualifiers, beginning with the open stage kicking off on January 8.

LESGO ITS ABOUT TO BE MAJOR SEASON. NGL , lately for past few editions i`ve been enjoying the Open Qualifiers and RMRs a lot more than the Major itself. Something about 12 hours of non-stop chaos ranging all over the world makes my nips go twist!

America is not just Mexico, USA and Canada, if Valve has already held a Major in Brazil, they would be able to make an RMR here, but apparently they have connections/facilities in Mexico

Not Valve, but PGL. Anyway, I have to agree about it being better than visa issues. RMRs are also a studio LAN, so who really cares where it is? Not like you can go there and watch.

My problem is not going there to watch, my problem is the connection infrastructure is horrible and having to look at the players' faces for 10 minutes because every hour there is a technical pause. Valve, PGL, idc, and as I said America is not just North America, Brazil doesnt need visa, and I didn't tell RMR to be in Brazil so I could go there and watch the players play, I said it because Brazil has better infrastructure for an event like this importance (worth a place in a Major) than Mexico

I wouldn't say Brazil has better network infrastructure. At least not by much. At least in some other game I saw commentators being in NA having desynchronization, while players themselves were "Idk, it plays OK for us" (tbf, it was rollback netcode in a game where you sometimes need to be frame perfect, a bit of a different beast that really likes stable network without any missing packets. Also was a COVID year, usually EVO is LAN). While everything was OK for all other regions and even SA countries. It is more of a staff issue, PGL is just not as good as ESL in dealing with all of that. Watch tech pauses plague all the RMRs at least on the first day.

No, the European RMRs in the last PGL Major were much more stable than the RMR Americas, Brazil has already had 1 Major and 1 Tier S event and everything went ok in terms of connection, it would certainly be much better infrastructured than Mexico as choice. But whatever, as I said PGL/Valve apparently has agreements/facilities with companies in Mexico

Again, sounds like either staff problem, or maybe specific ISP (although it is LAN, so they only thing they need internet for is stream and Steam). Or just shitty server/cable since it is LAN. But there's just no way Mexico doesn't have any stable ISPs considering the number of KoF players they have (well, relatively to other parts of the world, it is a niche game after all) - a very precise and execution heavy game. Unless they play it only on LAN.

We don't know if it's a staff problem, we're not going to discuss something we don't have info about, what we know is that they achieved the feat of making RMR Asia more stable than RMR America because they chose a terrible company to realize this RMR In Mexico

Now that's a shitty metric if I ever saw one. Someone will inevetably be "the worst" as long as there is comparison. Like, even in a 16-0 (13-0 now) game someone in the winning team will be at the bottom of the scoreboard. Don't be like "yeah, but even they had it better" like they are supposed to have it worse for some reason. Ask better for yourself, sure, but don't be like that.

All I'm saying is that PGL in general usually worse than ESL, being in Brazil most likely won't fix it. As well as gave you the example when brazilian network ruined the event (it was like 3 hours of delays in online EVO because of it, has nothing to do with ISPs though, since players played from their homes), os there's no guarantees And that Asia shouldn't automatically be worse because it's Asia, that's just mean to what little of asian fans there's still left.

Don't compare with other games because they are other companies, not PGL, which even though they are teams from the same company in RMR America, RMR Europe and Asia only managed to deliver a decent broadcast in Europe and Asia. As I said, I don't want RMR in Brazil to watch it locally, it's not even possible, I want it because I want to at least have the chance of maybe not being disappointed with a technical pause every 5 minutes like it was the last time there was RMR in Brazil. Mexico

Then advocate for hiring brazilian staff that helped to run those events maybe. There's still time until february to do that. After that you can be positive it is Mexico fault, or at least ISP in the mexican venue.

The RMR has already been confirmed in Mexico, now i really want in Mexico and I hope it's better than that time, my only hope is that there will be so many connection problems again in Monterrey, that they will choose Brazil or Chile for the next one RMR America

Man, it's like you just refuse to read what I write. Your point is valid. If you know for a fact that the problem is Mexico, or at least a specific venue. If the problem is staff PGL hires, being in Brazil, Chile, Argentine, Uruguay, whereever - won't fix it. If they bring the same team there at least. Edit: Anyway, I have to go now, so likely won't respond further.

Yes, it wil be 16 teams by Valve rules. As Liquid disbanded the core and lost their invite to the RMRs. It will be 8 spots for NA open qualifier and 7 spots for SA open qualifier as FURIA has a direct invite.

Oh, that was a funny one. Now you have be there physically at least, but the first time some teams like Trident tried to abuse "low competition" because they had no shot at going through EU qualifiers. And that's how we got Quazar in RMR that one time, because Moscow teams thought that it is free slot and nobody will be able to do them damage.

Interesting, but how do they determine the player is physically located in the far east? At least in QUAZAR's case, the qualifier led into the European RMR: liquipedia.net/counterstrike/PGL/2022/An..

Oh, yeah, right, sorry. It was "Far East Russia qualifier" for EU RMR back then, my bad. So, basically it mixes up from time to time. Rules probably will be established firmly the next time some team actually goes through from there. Before that it will be either something new each time or "whatever, not like they actually qualified using these rules". But for now it looks like it is the road for Asia RMR. If you somehow make it past Mongolz that is. As for physical location, even if they don't, servers are in Tokyo, Seoul and Hong Kong for that qualifier. GL playing from european side of Russia, you gonna need it with like 100+ ping at least if you decide to go that route.
