Evil Geniuses and ESL terminate partnership

The American organization gets rid of another big asset amid reports of its plans to exit esports.

ESL has announced that its partnership with Evil Geniuses will be terminated after the two parties mutually agreed to end the American organization's participation in the deal known as the 'Louvre Agreement.'

The news follows several reports that link EG with an exit from esports as a whole as well as their sale of their BLAST Premier slot and withdrawal from the League Championship Series (LCS) in League of Legends.

Evil Geniuses have previously parted ways with the majority of the Counter-Strike roster in recent weeks. Jadan "⁠HexT⁠" Postma and Vincent "⁠Brehze⁠" Cayonte made the move to NRG in late November and Jeorge "⁠Jeorge⁠" Endicott and Paytyn "⁠junior⁠" Johnson followed out of the door to Nouns on Thursday.

Evil Geniuses were a part of the 'Louvre Agreement' since the inception of the deal in 2020 and as such were automatically invited to every ESL Pro League season and a handful of other ESL competitions and also received a part of the revenue share from them.

For most of that time they were the worst-performing partnered team, placing last in four out of the last six seasons and outside of the playoffs in the other two. Despite this, they continued to be a partner well after they triggered a clause of the deal that says a permanent slot would be subject to review if a partner team places last in three out of four seasons.

How about this: Rather than investing in new players they kept brehze and cerq (.8 rating star players) on the lineup for two years and signed a valorant player, a semi-retired player, and Stewie. That roster collapses and they sign a random European igl and promote hext, actually solid investment, but why are cerq and brehze still there? They also signed not one but two academy teams. Now that seems like a good thing right? Only because of a lack of events the second academy team (who was better than both their other academy and their main team) can’t play anything and when the org finally decides to get rid of cerq they promote an awper who had a 1.00 rating in na tier 2 rather than the one with a 1.3 rating. The roster continues to struggle cause you still have brehze (a .8 rating star player who’s been washed for three years) and now wiz who is somehow worse than cerq. And what do you do next to help the na region? You kick hext (the only new na talent you have) and sign refrezh, who is the one player out there more washed than brehze. Promoting the academy team at the end helped but they only did that because their European roster failed.

Read into their (former) CEO, Nicole LaPointe Jameson. She was an associate/intern level position at the parent company (or something like that, just going off Dexerto, RL, other article sources) and they unexpectedly put her at the helm of the org back in...2018 or so. The org was reportedly a terrible place to work, employees and players mistreated, lawsuit(s) - they're still being investigated by Riot for the Danny incident. I read up on as many of their controversies as possible, it's super interesting. I recommend checking all RLewis articles for sure, some other journalists/sources published good exposés, as well. A lot of testimonies from previous employees. Check it out when you have an hour to burn! My opinion is that the CEO (LJ) was the cause, too many red flags. Her LinkedIn is so sus, too. The only "legit" thing listed on there is her education, the rest is fluff.
