STYKO reveals 2023 earnings

The Slovakian's base salary represented just a third of his company's total income this calendar year.

STYKO's income was boosted by a semi-final run at the Paris Major

Martin "STYKO" Styk has posted a video on YouTube in which he revealed his total esports-related income for 2023.

The total came to €461,253, a third of which came from his base monthly salary of €12,500 (€150,000 for the year) which means that the majority came from other sources: performance-based incentives in his contract with Apeks, his YouTube and Twitch channels, personal sponsorships, prize money, and, most importantly, sticker money.

STYKO could not reveal the exact figure he made from having his signature and Apeks their team sticker in the game for the BLAST.tv Paris Major, where he and Apeks made an underdog run to the semi-finals, because of a confidentiality agreement all players sign with Valve before the Major.

ropz's financial report gives insight into earnings

But it is clear that the payout from the Major makes up a large portion of his earnings. STYKO points out that the last Major played on CS:GO was the only Valve-sponsored event of the year, and came at a perfect point just two months after the announcement of Counter-Strike 2 piqued interest in the franchise.

"2023 was my most successful year when it came to earnings," he began, "but despite that, when you look at prize winnings, it's not that great."

The rifler revealed he earned €13,500 from prize money this year, 7.14% of the cash earned from tournaments while he was on Apeks' starting roster. 50% went to the organization, with the remainder split between the five players and two coaches equally.

He compared this total to 2018, where he won three tournaments with MOUZ to help STYKO's lineup to an annual total of $603,900 (€546,557) in prize money to be split between the organization and staff. That figure is nearly five times higher than what Apeks earned as a team with STYKO this term, but 2023 remained the most lucrative year of his career thus far.

The big factor behind that was sticker money, and, €297,753 of his income came from sources other than base salary and prize money — a significant portion of which is likely to have come from the in-game items.

" Well enough " lol I can't tell you have never worked a day in your life yet. 2000 euros is not " well enough " and with that you will barely be average and counting closely your expenses once the taxes, and necessary expenses ( loan or rent, food, insurances etc. ) It's not 2k of pocket money

2k is perfectly decent outside of big cities/big urban areas However in Paris (extreme case I know) you're "poor" with 2k

Its petfectly fine if you own a house/flat already, if not its propably hard to pay rent, monthly expenses, taxes while saving up for your own flat/House... And in rural areas u will most likely need a car + gas which isnt cheap either

Good luck owning a house with 2k a month Car is almost necessary everywhere too and it's not cheap like you said ( insurances, oil ). Not to mention the electricity/gas rates which are absolutely out of control ( if you own a 100m2 house or appartment you will be in for at least 200€ a month of energy costs) thanks to the stupid decision making of UE and the french government.

A big plus indeed because atm there is no way you'll get a house with a 2k salary while being alone. Let alone in big cities. You just won't get the loan from the bank.

Im working since 5 years now so i dont know why you're being agressive like this (got a shitty life lil bro?) 2k is way enough to live in most of France, i didnt speak about Paris also its the median salary Of course if you're close to Paris your rent will be high, thats why i said "most of France" You will come down with a 500€ rent, electricity, water bills lets say +200, internet, car, phone, +100, transport is half paid as many companies are giving you 50% back Now after paying your rent, your electricity, water, internet, transports, and you still cannot manage to survive with 1200 > you're just dumb and cant manage your money When i was still a student in engineering school in was earning 1500 and i was still saving 200-300 per months while having a rent. I guess you're pretty bad at managing your life hence your agressive tone

Clown '' internet, car, phone'' 100 lol Car insurance alone is 60-70+ with a small car xD Let alone with the oil, or with a decent car. Insurances +100 ( home, complementaire santé ) 500 euros rent ? Omegalol where do you live ? Either in deep countryside or in a 30m2. In big cities like Lille, Toulouse, Montpellier, Nantes, Bordeaux etc you will struggle to find 25m2 in a decent neighborhood for that price. Also 2k / month but zero taxes ? You will also be paying 100+ euros in IRPP if you are earning 2k nets. You are the one who has a shitty life if you actually think 2k a month is a good salary, especially after doing an engineering school. What is your ''engineering" specialty ? Sewers management ?? 1.5k€ while a student but 2k is a good salary ?? Lmao Median salary also mean shit when tons of people are earning minimal wage. French also have never been poorer since WWII.

You can get a phone+internet for 50e, my phone is 15e and my internet is 30e, for the car insurance after a few years if you know how to drive the price of your insurance drops, i pay 50e :) For the gas it depends if you're using it a lot which isnt the case for most people, also tons of people take public transports and half of it is paid back by the company For the rent the average in the whole country, not Paris right kid? Is 13€, for a 40m2 it would be 520e Also learn to read, i didnt say "everywhere" i said in most of the country, you're talking only about huge cities, only 38% are living in densely populated city, in which you will pay a lot more for you rent, but 38<50 Now for the rest they would be living outside, you could find something really cool with 500-600. Also a lot of people are living in social housings in which they are able to get if they dont get past a certain amount tax income. Most of the french can get one actually and they can get newly constructed flats, they will pay 400 per month and be at 25mn from Paris Literally #76 to sum it up since you're slow in the brain I didnt say it was a good salary, but that you could live properly in most of the country, and big cities doesnt represent the whole country Stay angry lil gremlin, cya :)

50 euros ? What do you have a 207 ? Peanut brain telling me most people don't live in big cities but also most people don't use their cars... when most small cities don't have a great public transports networks if any ( for countryside )... SMH Also using mean rate ( 13€/m² ) when it includes no man's lands where the rating is probably close to half of that if not lower... Very smart again... Let's included areas where there is no jobs... Where are you gonna find your engineering job with engineer pay (unless you work in compute science, and even then I strongly doubt it) other than in over 100k cities Einstein ..? What engineering school did you take up ? No wonder France went from Concorde, TGV or Tunnel sous la Manche to virtually no innovation/big engineering and ukrainian kids laughing about the math level... "Most of the french can get social housing". Okay, I'll stop at that now, you're either a troll or absolutely clueless about this. The average delay/waiting time to get a social housing is actually 3-4 effing years in France. In big cities over 100k it is up to10 years of waiting once you submit the file (unless you can pull some stirngs ) , and I'm not even talking about Paris. Cities are getting fined left and right because they don't build enough social housings. "Regular" rents prices are out of control because of these housing issues, and the rate increases of central banks (on top of having people leave appartments they used to rent available to Rbnb)... And I won't even start about the guarantee/bail required to rent something in big cities. There is an absolutely massive housing crisis in France atm. That's why the successive governments have been trying to vote law for people to get people a roof over their head. The state has been sued multiple times, and is getting sued more and more because of this inability to house working people... You have litterally zero clue about what you are talking about so I'll leave it at that, and let you do you little Google searches ( like you diligently did for the former paragraph ) so you can update your "knowledges" and look less stupid next time you try to talk about something like this. Anyway implying ZywOo asked 2k because you can live decently with that is utter BS. You can technically "live" and have some hobbies, if you but certainly nothing great, and you better not have kids either, or it will be survival mode. The mere reason why he asked for such a low wage also being because he never worked and lived at his parents, and 2k for him seemed like basically pocked change/money. Yeah if you still have 2k once everything is paid for you can have a good life, but for that to happen you'd need to earn around the double. ps : you are the one that assumed you can live " way enough " ( btw the way it's " well enough " smartass ) but I guess big cities are excluded from France then ... oopsie you also said " Its enough when you're not in Paris " so I guess you included all the cities I'm talking about. Then good luck with that.

so you’re a fan of situations when criminals know who to rob or kidnap? The fact that this stuff is as frequent is Europe as it is in other places doesn’t mean that we have to do everything to make it more frequent.

U can allways buy it to hide your income for around 100€ also no one sees your info, only name and what u made so no worries, also in finland only over 100k year income is public

"only over 100k year income is public" which is my entire point. Criminals can so who is rich so they know who to kidnap or rob. I mean, why is this even necessary? There's no need for this information to be public. You've mentioned "dirty money," but that's why you have your Finish equivalent of IRS, to oversee all of that

Dont worry they dont have that money in cash :D and if criminals wanna rob something or someone, that single person with 100k yearly income is worst target. Its easier for them to rob normal people

obviously they dont have that money in cash with them. But things in their homes will be ...more expensive than in houses of poorer people. They will perhaps have some expensive watches, some expensive jewelry or some shit. And they can still be kidnapped and their relatives asked to pay to get them back. As I've said, this stuff isnt frequent in Europe, unlike in other parts of the world. So why should do everything to make it more frequent? And so the question still stands. Why? Why is this necessary? I believe you didnt answer this question last time.

I mean this kind if things happens to everyone and kidnapping i havent heard it would happen because someone looked how much u earn. Almost all robbery happens in urban areas where poor people live because its easier to rob from them because they dont have money. Dunno about gdpr does it violate or not and pretty sure of it violates it, it wont be first or last thing to brake the eu law. All this worrying would be in place somewhere poorer place but its just normal thing here and noone cares it

also, Finald is a member of the EU. Doesnt this violate GDPR, when government is publicly sharing private information of their citizens? I haven't studied European law, I'm just asking whether there wasn't a backclash about that law violating GDPR.

A top e-athlete is still making a lot of money for the time he invests in it, absolutely no doubt about it (and STYKO isn't even at the absolute top). I work 10-14 hours a day / 6-7 days a week and only make ~230-250k€/year which is like half of STYKO's 2023 total income, and I am working at a well paid profession. Sure it is Finland where the salary's are relatively low anyway, but still...

Styko might not be a top 20 player of all time but he brings other qualities to top teams and apeks seem(ed) to appreciate them. His work ethic is propably one of the best in the scene, he is a responsible person (i think), nost likely a good teammate, he does whatever is needed for the team to succeed and so on. Also he has value to his name fron his time on mouz

The income is way higher nowadays, you can actually get such a steep economic buffer during your career it is going to last for the rest of your life. You can even be a little dumb with how you manage your money, but if you earn a couple of million euros during your gaming career it is hard to fuck up unless you spend it on shit like drugs, alcohol, sex, sportscars, luxury villa or gambling. If you live normal-ish life and don't go crazy you are set for life, even more so if you are comfortable investing yourself or paying a professional to manage your funds.

You ONLY make 250k a year which is 20k a month and you have the audience to say ONLY and that Finland has relatively small salaries?? Get out. The average salary in Finland is about 5k. In the rest of Europe it's like 2-4k at the best or not even that. Wake up to reality.

You meant to write audacity, right? Anyway, I believe the average salary in Finland for a male is ~4 k€ I believe. And like I said, I work long hours and in a well paid profession (medical doctor with a specialist degree in anesthesia). I have a couple of friends I studied with at the university that now live and work in Norway and they make a lot more money compared to me. Sure, both living and groceries are more expensive there too, but they are still left with quite a lot more money after taxes and other mandatory expenses. The salaries in Finland aren't that high compared to some other countries in Europe, especially in the Nordics, and income taxes cut a relatively large portion of your wage, for example the amount of taxes and other expenses I pay total over half of my gross salary, meaning of the ~19-21 k€ I earn monthly I am left with rougly 10 k€. On top of that, while not as expensive as the aforementioned Norway, Finland is a relatively expensive country to live in. You can certainly live a comfortable life in Finland with my salary and with a lower salary as well, but it is not glamorous by any stretch of imagination because of the taxing and everything being rather expensive.

Besides the fact that there are 3 weeks long player break during the winter and another about 5 week player break during the summer. 10 hours practice seems like an overkill too, sounds like some week before the major bootcamp practice, pros dont play that much to be on the top. Playing more than 7 or 8 hours is like studying that long in one day, your head will hurt and it wont be possible to focus and improve further. Also you got 1 day off every week in mouz, so I quess its a norm in tier 1. Normal people work more for almost minimum wage. Pros are going to the gym, getting new haircut, play some playstation game in their freetime, post stories from clubs, stories with their loved ones daily, there are a lot of people working 12 hours 6 days a week as a truck driver or something having no time for that

It was literally explained in the article, that prize winning from semifinal Major run was drop in the see for his total earnings since Apeks took 50% of it and rest of the 50% were split to 7 people (5 players + 2 coaches) "2023 was my most successful year when it came to earnings," he began, "but despite that, when you look at prize winnings, it's not that great." The rifler revealed he earned €13,500 from prize money this year, 7.14% of the cash earned from tournaments while he was on Apeks' starting roster. 50% went to the organization, with the remainder split between the five players and two coaches equally.

He said deep run makes thr cash which is absolutely incorrect. You just have to qualify for the major itself and get to the capsule, if you finish last in group stage or in semis doesn’t affect sticker money given to players at all. Valve wants this way to help lower teams and not just feed already rich orgs

I thought people not playing in T1 were having just okay money. Good to see that the scene is healthy enough to have very attractive income even in lower tiers

Or not healthy, since I struggle to see how the orgs are making money with such expenses...

We're seeing problems now because orgs probably based their expenses (and salaries) on the huge growth in esport we've seen with the pandemic. In the end the market didn't expend that much now that we're allowed to get out of our houses. Players will have no choice but accept lower salaries in the near future, that will match better the current state of esport economics. But all in all, it shows that even small orgs are able to throw half a million in salaries even without attending major/T1 tournaments constantly.

Even before that the salaries were way out of control bro. It only went worse during covid. They "throw" money at players but that money is debt. Why do you think FaZe is getting sold out ...?

Bro, faze is not getting sold out because of the CS team. That whole Org leadership just went full R word Jonathan please don't ban me for saying the R word

Very few eSports org make profit on CS though, because the salaries went way too high way too fast. Nowhere near in proportion to what it brings to the orgs... Just look at the HenryG c9 fiasco where ALEX ( french english one ) was getting paid 40k ... WTF ? That's also why you get spoiled kids like former EG players CeRq or Brehze who aren't trying anymore because they litterally made bank.

majors were always a big opportunity for smaller teams to multiply their incomes, hence why there are so many upsets over there

This is why some pros are weary of complaining CS 2, unfortunately that won't save the playerbase as it's the fun-factor that eventually decides if CS wither away and dies. CS 2 is not rewarding to play online and it will cause the playerbase to continue to drop as players just get sick of it eventually. VOLVO! Fix the game to save the future of CS eSport. Ditch sub-tick or only activate it on LAN matches, I bet that's where the hot potato is buried maybe in combination with lag-comp and ping.

Maybe it behaves differently on your machine but on mine the game often appear very delayed, it happens often I get a headshot kill ~300ms after I stop pressing the button and vice versa I guess, that in itself is a showstopper.

That is definitely not normal. Either old PC / veeery bad settings /drivers. Regardless, you shouldn't make the above comment based on your bad experience, when no one else experiencing ~300ms delays

Shut the hell up, I watch streamers and it happens to them too.. I am inclined to believe you are lying but okay, maybe you really are lucky with your ping and/or setup. Q: Can you play like Scream in CS 2 online? A: No, not unless everyone has <5ms ping. youtube.com/watch?v=OnumfyXqtYM twitter.com/ThourCS2/status/174208639230.. CS 2 is fkn crap and not rewarding especially online, you'll know if you were good in the first place.
