Complexity quartet extends contracts

Amidst questions of the organization's future, the players have renewed their commitment.

Complexity have locked in their talent for the 2024 season

Johnny "⁠JT⁠" Theodosiou, Michael "⁠Grim⁠" Wince, Ricky "⁠floppy⁠" Kemery, and coach Tiaan "⁠T.c⁠" Coertzen have extended their contracts with Complexity and will remain with the organization after first signing on two years ago.

Although details and the length of the deal were not included in the announcement, Complexity's General Manager, Graham "messioso" Pitt, confirmed that it was a "multi-year" extension when contacted by HLTV.

Contracts for Jonathan "⁠EliGE⁠" Jablonowski and Håkon "⁠hallzerk⁠" Fjærli were not extended as they still have time remaining, with the former only joining six months ago and the latter signing on in July 2022.

The re-commitment comes after Complexity enjoyed a period of success in the latter half of 2023 upon the switch to Counter-Strike 2. They impressed at IEM Sydney, where they finished as the runners-up to FaZe, and made a run to the semi-final of BLAST Fall Final before once again being sent home by Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen's side.

The quartet's extension also comes amidst questions of the future of Complexity's Counter-Strike division. The organization's parent company, GameSquare, raised conflict of interest concerns when a deal to acquire the FaZe organization was revealed near the end of IEM Sydney.

Speculation on whether one of the organizations would be forced to shed their roster soon followed, with HLTV most recently revealing that Complexity founder and CEO, Jason Lake, is searching for outside investment in hopes of funding a reacquisition of Complexity from GameSquare.

The acquisition was originally planned to close in Q4 2023, but sources told HLTV that the deal can still take months to complete, buying Lake time to find the necessary funding.

In the announcement of the extension, a letter "from the desk of Jason Lake" is closed out with the statement, "We're not going anywhere."

Why would you consider it "sacrificing their career" when coL has been performing consistently well ever since CS2, and the only player preventing them to be much more consistent is botzerk? If anything, finding a better awper will propel them to serious championship contenders.

I think TL and Col has a solid backbone structure behind their teams, which can be very appealing to players. Nobody doubts for a second that Jake truly cares about the team, and in TL, they keep talking about Steve, whomever that is...but they seem to love him.

Yeah Skadaddy was our last good awper. We just don't have a scene big enough to produce anyone. Crazy that nosee is the best thing that we've produced since 2018. He is massively mediocre at best.

Elige just signed 8 months ago so I dont think they resign him that quick. hallzerk maybe getting the boot? who knows. Maybe he signed a very long contract back in 2022.

Maybe, but hallzerk joined the team 6 months later than the core of the squad, it may just not be time for him to resign yet.

I hope hes out tho; a concistent AWPer would make them so much better. Doesnt even need to be a high fragging one; 1.1+ is fine for that team

He's Complexity's biggest liability. The team's literally only one change away from being consistent and being a proper contender team. All they need is an AWPer that's consistent and isnt dead weight. If they dont replace hallzerk after the major, don't be surprised if they get humiliated by another asian team or tier 2 NA or SA team.

This might spell the end for Hallzerk. As much as I love him being on the team, a new AWPer is what is needed. I don’t think he was nearly as bad as people make him out to be but there is plenty of clutch moments I can recall where he drops the ball when he shouldn’t have. If he was just a little more consistent he would be perfect but we’ll see what they do.
