Spirit beat TheMongolz to enter IEM Katowice group stage

The Russian team left it late to win the second map after cruising on the opener.

sh1ro was the top fragger in a close Ancient game

Spirit have booked a spot in the group stage of IEM Katowice 2024 following a 2-0 victory over The MongolZ. The Russian side exploded out of the gate and eased to a comfortable win on Mirage, but they had to work extremely hard to get a victory on Ancient, where The MongolZ came back from 12-8 down before falling short in overtime.

Asked after the match if he was happy about the win, Boris "magixx" Vorobiev had mixed feelings. "There were some shaky moments," he admitted.

After beating Apeks and The MongolZ in the Play-In stage, Spirit know that tougher opponents lie ahead. Still, magixx isn’t too worried.

"If we can perform the same way we have in practice games, it won’t be difficult to play against better teams in the group stage,” he said. “If we play like we normally do, we can still win games."

The series kicked off on Mirage, the same map where The MongolZ had defeated FURIA the previous day. This time around, however, the Mongolians were unable to find their footing in the game, posting just two rounds on the T side as Spirit seized the initiative from the get-go, led by the red-hot Danil "donk" Kryshkovets.

The Russian side then added to their lead with a fast push onto the B site in the pistol round. Four frags were all that The MongolZ could muster on the CT side as Spirit quickly put the game to bed, taking their winning streak on Mirage to ten games.

Spirit carried their momentum into Ancient as they romped to a 4-0 lead on the CT side, with Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov raising eyebrows with a quad kill in the fourth round. The MongolZ then enjoyed some semblance of respite, twice bringing the deficit to a minimum, but Spirit kept their composure and won the final three rounds of the half to secure an 8-4 lead.

Now playing on the T side, Spirit quickly reached double digits following a clean pistol round. But the landscape of the game changed dramatically once The MongolZ had money in the bank. The Asian team showed incredible composure throughout the half and managed to force overtime with some stellar plays from Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch and Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren, but their efforts were in vain as Spirit secured the map in overtime.

its fine, lessons learned. Mongolz need to face real opposition more since this is one of the few times they face international opposition so they're often going in blind.

Mongolz have to bootcamp for a longer period in europe. Like go to Poland, Serbia or Turkey and bootcamp for a few months. even playing against t2 european teams is a way better training than playing against the same old mongolian and chinese teams.

well yeah, but despite not doing much of that, they're still capable of keeping up despite the little amount of international experience they get whenever they can which surprisingly pays off in the long run.

Ayush. Also, his father's name is Batbold. We uses single name. And his brother is Baatarkhuu aka Bart4k. They are sons of Batbold. You can call them Ayush, Baatarkhuu etc. if you say Batbold, their father will see you.

choppers calling in the latter half of ancient was worrying ngl bro took a time out to rush b and they rarely halted for map control. Mongolz was just punishing them over and over

That timeout was called by the coach. And I suspect it was also him that then called that B bumrush.

I mean they did the same thing in their first match in the closed qualifier for RMR against KOI. Just rushing B without taking a map control round after round On the bright side, the way they're taking lane as CTs is so damn impressive

shaky T site ancient with chopper calling a B rush in every round but win is a win props to themongolz, they played well and I hope they can make it to the groups from the lower bracket. I think they can upset Astralis on a good day, assuming Astralis don't choke against the mess that is ENCE

if they can choke against the shaky mess that's Heroic, then they can absolutely choke against gla1ve and his polaks Would be good tbh cause scamming Astralis out of another spot in a tournament is euphoria)

Chopper is trolling with all these rushes on T side Ancient lol. Good thing they're so good on CT with chopper and magixx taking B lane and donk peeking from mid.

I think he puts pressure on his opponents because he is too young and screaming at them

Man we NEED to see Donk vs top tier teams like Faze, Vita, even new Astralis and Navi to really see how he performs. So disappointing he wasn’t at BLAST. Faze and Liquid matches would have been epic

1st map was obvious that mongolz didnt really understood how spirit approaching to the game. 2ns map was way better because mongolz started to realize how to anti spirit's game and bringing to OT. im sure next meet between these2 will be far more interesting
