The Americans have logged their first LAN win of the year.
North American side Complexity have laid claim to a 2-0 victory over Apeks in the opening round of IEM Katowice's group stage. While the European side are now slated to play Natus Vincere in the lower bracket, Complexity are poised for a daunting matchup against Spirit for a shot at the playoffs.

Complexity kicked things off on Vertigo with a smooth 5-0 start on the defense, but their momentum slowed as the half carried on. In the end, Apeks managed to retort with five rounds of their own before the half concluded with a 7-5 scoreline in favor of the American side. Complexity rolled into the second half with a flurry of rounds, marching ahead to match point. Apeks managed a few more rounds, but not enough to contest Complexity's 13-9 map win.
Amidst the break between Vertigo and Overpass, Tiaan "T.c" Coertzen briefly conferred with James "BanKs" Banks to discuss the upcoming map. Notably, the Complexity coach shared that he believed that Overpass would not be the easiest map but that the team's confidence from their Vertigo win would get them over the line.
T.c's prediction would take shape very early into their pick. A clean trio of kills from Michael "Grim" Wince allowed Complexity to take the pistol, but Apeks refused to permit the conversion, dragging the map into a hectic back-and-forth. Plays like Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad's B-site hold further heightened the chaos, with neither squad being capable of pulling ahead of the other during the first half, culminating in a 6-6 tie at the side switch.
Apeks snagged the second pistol round to break the 6-6 tie, but Complexity wrested away the lead with three rounds of their own. With the Americans charging full steam ahead, Tim "nawwk" Jonasson stepped up to the plate with a crucial 1v2 to prevent Complexity from running away with things.
Off the back of nawwk's clutch, Apeks managed to briefly reclaim the lead, but a streak of three rounds from Complexity dashed the European side's hopes of moving on to a third map, concluding the series with a 2-0 scoreline.
