FaZe claim top spot, Spirit breach top three in post-Katowice rankings
Finn "karrigan" Andersen's men have returned to the number one spot in the rankings after almost two months in second place.

A slew of changes have been made in the HLTV ranking as the dust settles following Spirit's monumental run at IEM Katowice. Two of the most notable shifts included FaZe overtaking Vitality for the list's top position, while Spirit shot up eight spots in the ranking to plant themselves among the top three.

Spirit's victory at Katowice has thrust the squad to new heights in the world ranking, with their third-place position being the highest in the organization's history. The team's previous peak of fifth place was achieved over a year and a half ago, following the Russian side's semifinal finish at PGL Major Antwerp.
Making room for the new addition to the top three is Natus Vincere, who slip three places to sixth after narrowly missing out on playoffs at Katowice.
For new readers or those in need of a refresher, here's a summary of how the HLTV World Ranking works:
Our team ranking is based on teams' achievements over the past year (with severe decay in points throughout each month), recent form over the last two months, and performance in recent events in the last 3 months.
Each team is required to have a three-man core in order to retain their points. Online matches and tournaments are included, but with a diminishing factor which means they cannot make a big difference among the top teams, and mainly serve to put new teams on the map.
FaZe managed to wrest control of the number one spot after their stellar streak around the release of CS2, before Vitality claimed the throne at the turn of the year. But, Dan "apEX" Madesclaire and company's dead-last finish at Katowice, paired with FaZe's runner-up placing ensured this was only a temporary change.
Katowice's results also see Falcons reassert their place in the top ten at the expense of Cloud9, who fall to eleventh place. Fellow newly-assembled lineups ENCE and HEROIC are also on the rise as a result of their performances in Poland.
Unfortunately, there cannot be victors in the ranking without losers. The aforementioned declines of Natus Vincere and Cloud9 on the list are prominent examples, but Virtus.pro's loss of four places is also notable, resulting from the team's early finish at the Katowice Play-in.
Squads who similarly suffered from their premature exits at Katowice include Astralis, BetBoom, Apeks, and FURIA.
